Star Wars in 3D it's official

For pity's sake, Spielberg just made a new Indiana Jones movie not long ago and it actually didn't suck, so obviously you can resurrect a franchise and do it well.

Actually...Lucas created Indiana Jones, and it was his idea to bring back Indy. Spielberg has repeatedly said while he directs the Indy movies, Indiana Jones is Lucas's "baby" and his creation. As for not "sucking", the latest Indy movie is matter of much heated controversy among the Indiana Jones fans. Some liked it and some really despise it. (The alien storyline was actually Spielberg's idea. Lucas was initially very much against the idea.)

That's all true, but really the point remains. A franchise can be rebooted without sucking horribly. I realize the alien thing sparked heat (justifiably. I thought it was weird too.) but I don't think I heard anyone complain about the casting or even the writing (aside from the ending.)... It seems easy to say that it was a better sequel than "The Phantom Menace."

So again, rather than continuing to milk a severely dehydrated cash cow, I'd like to see him do something worthwhile.

Um...Actually there were lot of a complaints from the Indiana Jones fans about the writing and casting as well. It got so heated that even Shia La Boeuf (Who played Indy's son) publicly apologized for his role. But I agree that it was a far better sequel than "The Phantom Menace". (Which I thought that it would have been a good movie, if it wasn't for Jar Jar Binks and Jake Lloyd's acting. The rest of the cast were quite good. None really complained much about Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor, and Ian McDiarmid's acting. The movie would be infinitely better if all the scenes of Jar Jar were removed, and young Anakin Skywalker was recasted. )

And as I've mentioned before, while many of us from our generation would hate it, the 3D films will open the door for future generations of Star Wars fans. As it stands now, (With some exceptions) many teenagers/tweens are not interested in the Star Wars saga, have never seen it, and don't want to see it. When they see it back on the big screen, (Whether it's 2D or 3D) it will generate interest for the future generation into Star Wars.

I don't get it; I'm not going to see Episode I in 3-D. There is no reason to release it in 3-D. All I see now is an attempt to milk more money out of us. Next year we get the Blu-Ray release of all 6 films, plus deleted scenes. So once again I have to buy the films. Now in 2012 GL is going to release Ep I in 3-D? Come on! The buck stops here. Instead of doing a 3-D release, why not just make a new film? Wait a minute, he already tried that and all we got were actors not giving true performances because they were surrounded by blue and greenscreens; scratch that. Methinks GL has turned to the Darkside of the Force. I'm just saying. I'll go throw up now.

Since I have a daughter now and she loves star wars, then its all good with me. She'll be able to enjoy Star Wars in the big screen. Just like Daddy did when he was seven.

Exactly. My daughter is 12 and is a Star Wars fan like me. I can't wait to take her to see it. As a Star Wars fan myself, I think it'll be fun to see some of my favorite moments in film history on the big screen again.

Thanks, but no thanks. Two hours of sleep is a better alternative to George Lucas' latest gimmick. Where most people strive to improve their products, these just seem to get worse.

I think it's a good idea, think of all the people who never got to see the movies because there are to young. And just think you get to see Boba Fett in 3D!...
....WAIT we have to see Jabba and Carrie Fisher(in a bikini) in 3D? Bad Idea, Bad idea!:)

well, i would go and see it in normal display, bc i was born in the 90s and so i only saw the prequels in theaters, so now i have a chance to see them all in theaters. thats worth it for me( the 3-D is just a minor deficiency)

Breaking news:
Lucasfilm has decided to reprocess the series into that format and release the films in theaters again, starting in 2012 with the 1999 prequel The Phantom Menace. It's only one-sixth of the news that Star Wars fans have been waiting to hear, but it's the first step toward converting the other prequels and original trilogy.
FULL STORY HERE

I'm not going to lie, when I heard the news, I puked in my mouth a little bit......

Lucas knows me too well. He knows I'll have to see Star Wars again if he releases it in theaters in 3D or 2D or emergo. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

You'dve thought Spielberg would have a word with him. Look at the wealth of films he's made since indianna jones, you don't see him going back and tweaking that every other year

that's cause Spielberg don't have any movies that are worth re-tweaking that people will still pay to see, I give George the credit for the IJ Films. But he's just as guilty of screwing up his movies as George is, I give you the FBI in his movie E.T. pointing flashlights instead of pistols in his remake as evidence.

We'd all prefer something new, BUT that probably isn't going to happen. Meanwhile I'm with the above, I can't wait to take my daughter to see these in the theaters, I was in basic training during Ep. II so I missed that in the theaters, so this will give me a chance to re-do it. Plus I'm also in agreement with seeing Leia in the slave bikini in 3D can't be all that bad.

Mesa thinks ida be way more interested if these here films were starting with A New Hope or Ep 7 instead da Gunguns and midichlorian counts. But it's pretty much a pipe dream not to spoil the secrets of the original trilogy these days (for new generations). Also, the prequels will probably translate to 3d better because all those effects are just sitting on hard drives somewhere as opposed to OT which probably requires much more work to pull off.

But it's all in fun so hopefully it's good.

3D, Shmee Dee! I say, poop-can the prequels. 2 or 3d! As if the Special Editions weren't bad enough, we had to be bludgeoned with prequels. I agree with Chris (fettpride)..."focus on what MADE him in the first place for a change". Re-release the original trilogy in theaters it's original form. If it's about introducing Star Wars to a new generation, young children will be just as thrilled as us old folks were when we saw Star Wars in 1978. I saw the darn thing 38 times in theaters. No sneaking either. I bought a ticket each time! I'd do it again!

:cheers
