    Oct 10, 2011, 7:36 PM - The spammers. . . they got me! #1

    Hi all,
Early this morning/late last night I got an email on my AOL account from my sister. I didn't really pay attention when I opened it, but it had a strange subject line. I opened the email and replied to her.
Throughout the day I got a couple of "mailer daemon" email notices on my phone. Didn't think too much about it.
When I got home this afternoon, I opened AOL and saw that a lot of spam had been sent to many people on my contact list. . . some with very embarassing subjects!
I ran a malware sweep with two different programs and isolated a trojan. I cleaned it off my computer and changed my AOL password, and hopefully that will be the end of it.
Can't people come up with better things to do than hijack peoples' email accounts???

Lucky you! You managed to find in no time the problem and eliminate it, while others didn't know where to start, what to do.

Better hijack your e-mail account than something with real meaning for you.

But still, I can't understand the reason why someone is trying to do harm to others just for fun or to steal your money or even your identity.

Profit! Seriously, some people have too much time on their hands. When you don't have a life, you try to ruin someone else's. Waste of oxygen, if you ask me.

Yep, happened to me too. After I changed my password (and will do so more often now) I didn't have any more problems.

OUCH. That sucks. I got hacked on facebook about two weeks ago too, but I changed my password and it's all fine now. I hate hackers...

Ever hear about the German kid (17 or 18 i think at the time) who was living in the loft at his parents house who 'hacked' the NASA and CIA mainframes?
He is now working for Norton internet security on a HUGH salary!
There are some people out there who are incredibly intelligent and think that breaking into your stuff is funny, because its a challange, and if they are *really* good at it, they get a job with a internet security company or top ranking government facility etc
Ah, to be that clever and have nothing better to do with my life....

Yeah, most of the outgoing spam was returned by AOL "mailer daemon." Guess most people have enough sense to use spam blockers.
I actually got a reply from someone. The message read, "Seriously, this is not cool."

. . . As if I did it on purpose. Really?

Haven't had it happen again, so I guess getting rid of the trojan and changing my password stopped it.

    "From my sister".... uh huh.

Stop opening those emails that promise three inches in 21 days and you wouldn't have this issue.
