So at the movie theater tonight....

My charming girlfriend got tickets for the midnight showing of transformers 2 for me

we got there maybe an hour or so early, and found some seats at the top that we were both happy with.

maybe 30 minutes left to the showing and it starts getting relatively crowded

we are at the end of an aisle at the top with 3 seats to our right

eventually a group of four comes in and attempts to get to the top

...now...to make it clear 2 times already ushers had come into the theater stating the show was sold out and to not leave gaps between people

...continuing on. the group of 4 goes to the top by us and asks the next group (of two) if the seat to their right was vacant, to which one of the ladies in that group replied "yes"

thinking that it was a go the group prepared to take some seats at the top...

when asked if the ladies would kindly shift down one seat (and it was definitely in a polite manner)...one lady replied yes and the other claimed "i'm not moving at all"

she continued to make a scene and start a verbal argument (very aggressive i might add) with one of the girls in the group of four.

this went on for like 5 minutes before one of the guys in the group went to find a manager... he came back and the manager asked if the ladies would please move down...the one still refused and the manager stated she couldn't "force" anyone to move if they didn't want to

so the group ended up splitting...the two guys stayed at the top and the two girls found seats elsewhere....

then the one lady bragged to her friend about how she "won" the whole ordeal... then one of the guys sitting at the top was just like "i'm sitting right here...it's over can you please just drop it"

then the lady continued to gloat and just be a complete you know what...

maybe 10 minutes before the show starts now... an usher comes up with a couple following her...

she goes to the top and asks the two ladies if the seat next to them is taken and if they'd be willing to move down....

now here's where it gets nuts

they both move down.... and at this point the whole theater witnessed the previous drama and everyone overheard...

various people around the theater are chuckling at the fact that these people now are willing to move down without any fight.

the two guys speak up that they had two more in their party that should have been able to get the seats next to them instead had the ladies originally moved down.

the usher asks where the other two are and is willing to seat the couple she brought up in place of them so the group of 4 can be together.

the two troublesome ladies now move back and say "no, we're not moving for them if that's how it's going to be"

now everyone else in the theater witnesses this and is just in disbelief with plenty of both tasteful humorous and outright offensive comments.

in the end the ladies still wouldn't move.

    pretty ridiculous eh?

i think the theater should be able to eject people like this.... i seriously wanted to throw these people out of the theater myself....

trust me...i'm huge...no one would be able to stop me

and i know anyone would have helped

We need to stop cutting each others throats

Are we serisouly getting to the point where theaters here will have to go by asigned seating? I think overall people are getting ruder and ruder.

Back in the 'Good ole Days' you would have just be able to toss them out but since everyone is waiting to flag down a passing lawyer, the country has gone pansy about such things. It stinks that people like that are allowed to bully others. Hope you all enjoyed the movie.

I'd be interested as well. Reviews so far have been absolutely dismal, more or less agreeing that this movie is simply a collection of all the weak aspects of the first film, amplified and expounded upon... I had such high hopes based on the trailers... of course Bumblebee spraying tears everywhere in the first few seconds of the trailer should have been an indicator we were going to get another less than serious movie.

This is why I NEVER go to first showing. I can wait to see it in a mid-week matinee, with only a dozen people in the theater.

See anything in a crowded theater just ruins the picture. If I wanted to catch a movie whilst packed into a seat, surronded by obnoxious people, I would just book an international flight.

The movie was great, I'm a huge transformers fan, and when I heard about a movie being made (the first one) i was under the impression it would be ruined. but when i ended up seeing it I felt they did a pretty good job. then when the second one got announced I figured I'd get more of the same.

it's incredibly cheesy with a lot of one liners and trash talk.... but maybe I have such low expectations for this kind of movie that some dull cheesiness doesn't bother me.

Re: So at the movie theater tonight....

I'm wondering if somewhere on a movie ticket you can find a disclaimer, or customer/ theater rights. I'm pretty sure all concert tickets and sport events tickets have that. Something along the lines of " We reserve the right to eject a ticket holder at our discretion. " Then have maybe a poster in the lobby like that and possibly an on screen message like the "silence your cell phones " one. I'm pretty sure a movie theater can eject you anyway. It's a business, like a restaurant, etc. Maybe the usher was just trying to be diplomatic. Perhaps they can't "make you" switch seats as that would imply physical contact, but I bet they can kick your butt out of the theater.

I would have spent a good portion of the movie harassing the devil-woman. Childish ? Yes. Worth it ? Absolutely. Even better if you get those around you to join in.

I know it's sinking to another level, but oh what fun!

"Oops, I'm really sorry, my girlfriend knocked in to me and I spilled my soda all over you... "

All movie theaters over here have assigned seating, I guess to avoid this kind of situation. It does mean that you have to get your tickets early if you want to get a good seat, but this doesn't seem to matter as the theaters are always busy. The last thing I would want is to find myself in a similar situation as mentioned above. I have a short fuse when it comes to petty minded ignorant people.

    Hmmmm.
When I go to the theater and drop in upwards of $35 (tickets for two and refreshments), it is important where we sit. So we bust our butts to get there early and in plenty of time to have pick over the seating.

Nothing to me is more irritating to me than a group of people who get there a minute or two before the previews (or during them) and ask to have us 'adjust' to accommodate their irresponsible tardiness.

Now if it's just one seat, no big deal. More than that, and you should have gotten there earlier. If you have to split up your group, then maybe next time you'll get there in a timely fashion.

I know that here in AZ at least we have police inside the theaters to "assist" any trouble makers to the door or at least till they comply. sad it has to come to that. :/

certain theaters here in OH have county sherriffs and whatnot, but those are usually the more "bad" theaters.

I agree that if I get there early I don't want to shift, and yes one seat isn't too bad, but to move for another group then say no when they speak up, that is ridiculous and if I were an underpaid usher I would have ejected them to at least get SOME satisfaction in my job.

I stopped going to theaters because of that sort of stupidity being all too common place... Being retired law enforcement I have NO tolerance for dealing with idiots...
I bought a 60" Flat Screen HDTV and just wait for the DVD's... More fun, comfortable and problem free for the family and me...

Thats why I love going to theaters with assigned seating. Muvico is my favorite theater. Go online, pick your seats and you are all set. Though people like that are part of the reason I hate going to the show.

    .

i don't know if you're using the forms of the word 'you' referring to me, or just saying people in general.... the story is not about me, but a group of people in the theater, just to clarify for everyone. my girlfriend and I were there at least an hour early.

but still...it's a sold out show. 1 seat is not a big deal no matter what anyway. if it were any other time with open seats of four elsewhere then yes....the "should have got here earlier" argument stands.

BUT these people were clearly jerks to people they didn't know and didn't care to know.

since this didn't happen to me, yet i observed it, my opinion is ideal on the situation since i am neither of the two groups in the argument.

like i said...the whole theater was against the people who wouldn't move...and that's enough to pretty tell you how things should work.

i agree with slave1pilot, standing in front of them the whole time would be awesome...childish...but maybe that's how you deal with people who also insist on acting like children...especially with that whole "we're moving back" BS

i don't understand why you'd rather antagonize an entire theater of people rather than just act like a normal person in public.

maybe random acts of kindness are just dead these days....maybe we shouldn't be so concerned about what we "shouldn't have to do" and be more concerned on what "we could do"

so if you want to be the guy that won't move to help someone out....or be in the grocery store checkout with 100 items when the guy behind you just needs milk....or not hold the door for the lady with a baby....then fine...

karma meets up with everybody whether you believe it or not

I tend to go see movies after they´ve been up for a while, less people in the theatre and less of a chance there´s going to be someone annoying me by talking or using their phones.

A movie in Norway costs about $15 in the cinemas, for which I at least want to enjoy the film without people talking or doing anything else to interrupt the movie.

I once took a girls cellphone away from here during a movie, she sat next to me and kept sending textmessages all the time. I had an annoying white light in my face for about 30 mins. until I had enough, so I "watched" her phone for her the bext 90 minutes.

I wish we could just get employees of the movie theaters to double as bouncers to keep the peace.

I am a quite person and overall really calm, but if there is something I see that gets me aggravated I tend to go "all out". I would not have been able to keep my mouth shut if I was sitting nearby. Someone probably would have been escorting me out for making sarcastic comments throughout the whole movie.

That is pretty ridiculous. The worse theater experience I've had was a while ago. I forget what movie me and my friends were watching, but mid-way through it, this guy's cell phone behind me goes off, and he ANSWERS it. He had a ten minute or so conversation, and not even in a hushed tone. That really aggravated me to no end.

The Best movie experience ive had was at the original Batman movie, first showing and they refused to sell tickets to people with children under 12, no cell phones then, and the ushers were told to remove anyone annoying others or speaking during the movie.
Harsh, yes but it was the last movie where i heard every line in the movie.
After that it went down hill fast. Quit going to movies 2 years later.

I love watching movies on the big screen, however every time I go to a premiere I find myself about two seconds from an assault & battery charge. This story literally made my blood boil.

I now avoid premieres and opening weekends for all but the most anticipated movies.

my friend has a simple solution for idiots like this. He has a fart device and carries a stink bomb. Any issues he lets a few rip and if it doesn't improve he lets the bomb go! It's so freakin hilarious to watch everyone scramble over each other to get away from us. We just have to put up with the smell for 10 minutes and then we have entire rows to ourselves! I swear you spend the first 20 minutes of the movie with laughter tears blurring the movie!
