    slave1pilot's status

    hey guys.
Just making a thread here to let you guys know that i won't be able to paint anything for a while.

Saturday Aug-22, I spent the weekend with some friends and family.
Just a little camping trip and a chance to rercharge the ol' batteries.
Some friends brought their quads and I learned to ride them on saturday
    here's the results;

what you can't see in the pics are 4 broken ribs and a punctured lung.
Fortunatley, the lung wasn't bad enough to require a drainage tube.
if you are wondering what happened, I hit a bulding going about 25 mph.
    It didn't budge.

I will get back to work on your stuff as sson as I am able.
    Sorry for the unexpected delay.
    Thanx for undertsanding,
    ~nathan

Ouch!!! Those dang buildings just jump out at you when you least expect em!! I had a head-on collision with a parked pickup truck while riding my motocross bike when I was young, and pretty much ended up with the same results. I'd have to say that the pickup won!!! LOL Hope you have a speedy recovery

No, no Nathan - you're better than that brother. You didn't hit the building. You only think you did. You see, I have it on good authority that someone moved the building in front of you at the last minute. It's not your fault.

Glad you're ok (for the most part). It could have been worse. You have a lot to be thankful for

Quads can be dangerous. I crashed my quad into someone else and flew over the handlebars. I saw a friend hit a large rock and cause him and the whole quad to do several somersaults. I'm glad to hear it wasn't worse. Heal up fast!

Quads aren ' t dangerous by nature... this surprises me... My quad which just stands in the backyard with a pot of flowers on it never does these kind of things...

sorry for the lame joke :P

You' re lucky to get away with just this, have a speedy and healthy recovery!!

    Re: slave1pilot's status

A high school buddy of mine had 2 quads that we would take out often. We were going down a fairly steep incline near one of the creeks behind his place when he hit a fairly large rock that he misjudged the size on. He had to have flown a good 8ft, and lucky for him he went right into the creek and not into a tree.

Glad your still kickin Nate. Those buildings can be worthy adversaries!

as long as we are telling stories I grabbed the front brake on accident when I meant to grab the clutch on my KX and the front end dipped and caused me to fly off the bike head first into the ground. only thing that broke was my visor

    Re: slave1pilot's status

I rolled a Honda Elite scooter back in 87', trying to pull a "U" ey in front of my girlfriends house at 11:00 at night. I throttled the gas rather than breaking and rolled with it twice over, on the street, which was on a hill. I didn't break anything other screwing up my Flock of seagulls hairdo. I was bruised up with a few scratches otherwise. It was my first time riding one, was supposed to go to the liquor store to buy cigs. I have not riden anything motorized on two wheels since. Hang tough Nate and rest up and heal soon

I was wondering about the difference as well. Care to enlighten us on what makes them more dangerous? Are they harder? More inanimate? Easer to see?

"bulding" is what you get when you have poor typing skills and add 3 kinds of meds to the mix.
be thankful that's all I'm typing.

Well, you see, buldings are a very rare and vicious animal. They're a cross between a bulldog and a starling. So it's basically a dog with wings.
However, being that starlings are so small, the wings aren't large enough to generate the lift required to get the bulldog portion off the ground!
So the bulding lives it's life in a constant state of frustration; having wings yet lacking the ability to fly. That's probably why Nathan hit it with his quad. It just couldn't fly out of the way in time to avoid a collision.
It also gets made fun of a lot by other animals.

Thank you for all the kind words everyone.
It means alot to me know that so many care
I have received lots of texts and phonecalls wishing me the best.

    Here's an update;
    I crashed on saturday
stayed in the Hospital until tuesday afternoon
    Home now and resting well
my mom is coming down friday night to help out
I am able to move around for short periods of time and get myself out of bed (quite an accomplishment!!)
my right shoulder and chest are still extremely sore, as is my left knee
I do my breathing exercizes to prevent pneumonia and get plenty of exercize going up and down the stairs to my room

i have x-rays and a follow-up with my doc on tuesday to see how long it will be before I get to go back to work.
Docs say 6 weeks to recovery , but i ain't down with that.
thanx for keeping me & Michelle in your thoughts.

Wow Nathan, I hope you get better quick, it really sucks to be down. My daughter flipped her quad a few months ago too. Luckily, after a drive to the emergency room and some X-rays, it was just a bad contusion. We are going to try to get her on a dirt bike instead.

    I was actually very lucky.
I avoided hitting a truck and hit the house instead
The house ( actually a Real Estate office) will only be about $50 for repairs since the owners are friends with my wife's Real Estate office.
If I woulda hit the truck, it would be much much more

BTW_ my appt. got moved up to tomorrow morning, so maybe I can get released from captivity sooner

    I saw my doc today.
He said my lung has healed and that I only had 3 broken ribs, not 4.
I am healing well and am going back to work on the 8th of Sep (light duty)
Disability only pays 60% - 70% of my regular pay, so I can't stay out longer.
I go back on full duty on Oct 5.

I also paid for the damages to the building, and am waiting on the Quad bill.
    that's really gonna hurt

Here's a pic of the building I hit (from googlemaps)

The red circle shows where I hit.
Think how bad it would have been if I was to the right another 2 ft or so & hit the glass.

Man that blows about the work. Sorry to hear. I had a worker's comp case when I pulled my back after unloading several palettes of car batteries by hand in a short time. They don;t make it easy. Hey, on the bright side, I guess you can always catch up on other things so that when you get back to work you don't have painting jet packs an "honey-do's" hanging over you head.

    Disability Sucks.
They are only giving me $6.35 an hour instead of the 60-70% that I thought.
Apparently, They KEEP 60-70 % of what I made.
How is that supposed to cover anything?

What really sucks is that it's mandatory to pay into CASDI
I've been paying into it for 22 years and I don't evn make minimum wage?

Man... that is bad. I thought the unions in Cali were supposed to take pretty good care of their people. Sorry to hear that you are getting the shaft. That's ridiculous. Seems like the hard working people get screwed left, right, and center, and the freeloaders get hand outs. Now you got me going....

fyi....Jet pack rocks. Really, really rocks. Thanks.

    Re: slave1pilot's status

I finally went back to work today.
    About friggin' time.
4 weeks without a real paycheck is a little rough.
Thank you all for your support, both the well-wishes and the commissions.
We would not have made it through without you.

I had a full week at work & I must say i am fatigued.
Took a lot outta me this week.
First day back, I had to move 600 lbs of sand bags by myself.
they are 50 lb bags used for ballasting test vehicles for tire tests.
My week just got harder from there lol
but enough crying about work, I'm glad to be back at getting a real paycheck.

Last week ,I had another follow up with my doc & we discussed the sore right shoulder and the new bump on top that wasn't there prior to the accident. He gave me a referral to get an MRI.
    so...
I had the MRI done on my shoulder today .
I really really hate having to do it. i whined & sniveled through the whole thing . It took about 45 minutes of me laying perfectly still. It was torture.

After it was over, I came home & relaxed with the family and we all went to Denny's for some disgusting food. While we were eating , i got a call saying that we needed to do another MRI to get some extra pics due to the intern writing "lump" instead of "bump" when desribing my shoulder. Had to make sure the "bump" was pointed out in the new pics to make sure it wasn't a cancerous "lump"
This one only took about 20 minutes, so it wasn't quite as bad.
    Anyway, that all leads me to this;
It appears that I have a shoulder separation. Not a dislocation (waaay different).http://orthopedics.about.com/cs/shou...separation.htm
Not sure to what level, that will be up to my Doc to determine.
I'm guessing a grade 2 due to the "bump", could be grade 3 though (wish me luck)
