    Sketch card pulls from Galaxy 4 set

    updated 02-27-09 with new sketch

    I bought six boxes of the Topps Galaxy 4 set and spent several hours opening almost 150 packs of cards in search of artist sketch cards. Besides the pics below, I ended up with several etched foil puzzle sets, silver foil sets, a few autographs, bronze and gold foil cards. I'm not trying to criticize any artists on this set, but I was slightly dissapointed with my sketch pulls, especialy at around $70 a box. It was a heck of a lot of fun cracking open the boxes though. Here are some highlights.

    NUMBERED 195/500. Only 500 produced worldwide.

    I'm sorry, but I thought that the quality of the sketch cards would have been better!

    I mean, come on! It's freakin STAR WARS!! I was REALLY trying to get on that set, but didn't because I didn't know about it until it was too late to submit anything!!

    Although, I have seen some of the artists postings of the cards they have done. And some of them were drop dead gorgeous!

    And you opened up almost 150 packs and that's all you got? WOW!! I thought by opening up that many, you might have gotten a card by Cat Staggs, Rich Molinelli, Joe Coroney, Grant Gould, Sean Pence, or Daniel Bergren (to name a few of some others who do awesome work!!)

    Guess my cards are going to be really rare when the set I'm working on now, is released. LOL! I'm only doing 50!! And then it's back to commissions for a while for me!!

    Lol, if you know about the SWG NGE, Trails of Obi Wan bait and switch, total revamp of a running game with 2 weeks notice.
    300k crying out in anger. 250k or so hitting the cancel button, mass destruction of long standing guilds. meh
    Its been argued, debated and debased just every now and then when i see Starwars and galaxies together some of the old anger surfaces.
    Silly i know, but what can you do.

    That last card is great, more along the lines of what I'd expect. The rest of those while, interesting to artists just seem a little hurried and "basic" for me. Sorry if I offend anyone but I wouldn't want to pay for those.

    They are still some nice cards. Granted they are not colored.
    I did 258 sketch cards for the normal set and 53 for the Target red cards

    I just wish more artists would take a little more care in doing them. But then again, the people who allow them to submit sub-par work or even select them to work on a set are also responsible. I don't know about you, but for me, it all about quality over quantity. I know if I turned in something that looked as bad as some of the cards I've seen, I wouldn't even had a chance!

    But yes, I have also seen some gorgeous cards from that set!!! Quite a few!! It just shocked me to see that a couple of butterbean's cards were so simple and honestly, unimpressive.

    Yeah, I know I might be fluffing up some feathers. And I apologize. But if that's what it's going to take to get more artists to produce top notch work, then so be it. If you're in the sketch card biz for the money, you're in it for the wrong reason.

    Well Star Wars is one of my passions. Been wanting to do something with Star Wars ever since I was 5. So now that I have the opportunity, I am going to put as much as I can into them. Thank you for the kind words!
