Scratchbuilt 32" Millennium Falcon

Serious necrothread action here but I just drunkenly stumbled across this as I was looking for ref modding the new hasbro falcon.

A 32", 5' falcon, so jealous, it really is the best falcon there is.
amazing, just amazing :) killer.

Yeah, i've been keeping an eagle eye out for the BMF myself. Hopefully it shows up in Canada soon.

Or I could just go and build my FineMolds 1:72 that's been sitting in the closet for 3 years. 1st World Problems. :rolleyes

Serious necrothread action here . . .

LOL. Man, you ain't kidding!
When I saw this near the top of the forum I thought, "Cool! Someone built a Falcon. I love the Falcon!"
I clicked on the topic not even looking at whose thread it was.

Can't believe it's been 6 1/2 years since I finished her up. She's still in great shape, resting under the
big acrylic case that I had made to protect her. The display sits in a corner of my recently reorganized
hobby room, and it keeps me company while I'm working on all my prop projects. (y)

Your prop skills are altogether inspiring,
first you and Raf gave me the confidence to paint my FPHII ( a little while ago now ) and now your thread here shows me that I can tackle a least the missing sidewalls on this new hasbro falcon :)
I'd like to convert it into a 32", 5' replica but the panels are all wrong and most of the detailing. you really do have a one of a kind there.
Rock on.

I've seen some pretty cool Hasbro Falcon conversions on the RPF.
If you have access to Plastruct or Evergreen sheet styrene and various sizes of styrene rods and tubes,
you can create an amazing variety of shapes. It takes some patience and a steady hand, but that's
how I made a lot of the shapes on my Falcon.

Thanks again, guys. :)

I'm just wondering if I can get my name on the list for this run!!! That is amazing and better than any kit I've seen.

"Ten thousand, all in advance."
Appreciate that! But this was strictly a one-off scratchbuild. There's no kit to be had.

Can it one off its way safely into a shipping container and make its way to my house? Lol I just posted something about displaying your collection, take a peek, you'll see a fraction of my stuff

LOL, and back to the top it comes. It still sits in the corner of my hobby room to keep me company when I'm doing hobby stuff.

Thanks, Dom. I've seen some pretty amazing Hasbro Falcon conversions. I know there are some people making resin upgrade parts
on the RPF and I've also seen some upgrade and accurization sets on Shapeways. I've heard the plastic they used on the Hasbro
is a nightmare to work with though. Hard to sand and hard to get paint to stick.

Takes adhesion promoter to get the paint to stick and such...and yeh I ordered the side panels from Kokkori on therpf....and Im looking at building my own cockpit out of sintra and other stuff....I was thinking miliputty sintra and styrene. and adding the missing panels from styrene. I also have a grand idea of how I want to display it....hopefully the wife lets me do it. Was thinking about a 32" wide x 20" tall piece of MPF deathstar panel....mounted to the wall. Don't want to waste space on a shelf or anything.

YES! I got a lot to workout...but one of the guys on therpf did some 3d printed items I need to message him about....one being a frame for the inside to mount it to a camera tripod mount...looks really legit.

I'm so glad someone found this and bumped it up, I hadn't seen this yet! Eric this is frickin' awesome. As "divorce therapy" back in 2001, I built a modified AMT or whatever was out at the time, used Falcon kits resin side panels and extra landing gear, etc. this model was where I learned how to use pastels and so many other cool techniques. I scrapped all the plumbing off of the hull and used guitar strings to make the "pipes" look more round/realistic.
Later I found the same scratch built model (I loved that case he bought to transport that thing in, I've since learned how to build those too!) but I never got the guts to start building it. Holy crap! You may have inspired me to start on that after I get ESB Fett done.
Anyway, great job on the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy. I'd seen it in the background of your pics and wondered about it, being a Falcon freak.

Went and bought a Revel Tie kit to sacrifice to the falcons exhaust vents! Got some styrene to build the cockpit going to use water slide transfers on the styrene....any other tips you can think of eric?

Well, I'm not really that familiar with how the Hasbro looks "stock." When I did all the tubing that goes over the surface and into the
little maintenance pits I used some floral wire and some styrene rod in different diameters. The styrene rod was better for the straight
pieces and the floral wire was good for doing the parts with bends because it held its shape a lot better.
There's also styrene rod that has a wire core, but it was a bit more expensive and I was trying not to spend a whole lot on the project.

When I did the backdrops for the cockpit and the upper gun turret I just designed them myself in my Paintshop Pro program and printed
them on regular printer paper. Then I stuck them onto the styrene walls using double sided tape. I glued a couple of small greeblies
here and there to make it look like it has a little bit of dimension to it. No lights or anything on mine.
