Saints Row vs. GTA IV

Ok, so I have been playing allot of GTA IV lately, and I have been a fan of most of them, but something seems lacking. I bought and finished Saints Row shortly after it came out and I loved it! I always thought the newest GTA would blow it away, but man, I am a little dissapointed in GTA.

Here are some of my complaints about GTA:

1) How come you can't purchase properties like in Vice City? I am about 70 missions in and you can't buy any property, you are stuck with what they give you. I think they only have 4 available.

2) Why couldn't GTA take a note from Saints Row and allow you to customize your cars? Saints Row did a great job of that.

3) Why no plane or attack chopper in GTA IV? I know you had to open the Apache in Vice City, but the M.A.S.H helicopter with the chain gun was opened sooner! Is their a point where a helicopter is opened, like the Blackhawk the SWAT guys are in?

4) No customization of your character with the exception of a few clothes? Saints Row had an awesome character build and clothing options. The options in GTA IV suck.

Those are just a few. Am I missing somethng? Yeah, the mini games (darts, bowling, etc) were fun for the first 5 minutes, but they lost their appeal very quickly. Even the side missions in GTA IV are kinda boring.

I hate to say it, but if this next Saints Row is done right, it will blow GTA out of the water!

I just found out about the cheat for the Blackhawk, but is that the only heliopter and can you get it without cheating?

When playing GTA 4 online multiplayer, I hear sometimes people comparing it with Saints Row also.

But anyways, over at GTA forums we also talk about what the games have and dont have compaired to previous GTA titles too. The Rumors going around is that more New items such as clothes, apartments, custom vehicles and ect. will be available in the comming future through add on packages via Xbox Live marketplace, at a cost.

We already know that they are making (Epic episode packs) featuring newer missions, cars, characters, ect.:)

The skys the limit.:cheers

Their are a total of 4 types of helicopters in GTA 4 : Annilhilator/Blackhack, Hilitors Maverick, Maverick, and Police Maverick. The first three are scattered throughout the map. The Police Maverick helicopter however is a tricky one for me to get ahold of.

If you want to find the Annilhiator, the only helicopter with guns, try going to the top of the police station northeast Algonquin.;)

EDIT: Here is a map of most of GTA4 helicopters. This should help:cheers

To address number 1. You cannot go purchase a dozen+ properties, because they were trying to incorporate a more realistic feel to their game.
To number 3. There are attack helicopters. Go look :lol:lol:

To 2 and 4. The limitations of the disc space for the 360 severely hindered the amount of content that could be put in the game. Without sounding like a ps3fanboy, 20gb of space with the number of polygons used today forces companies to cut corners where they normally wouldn't have. If it's any consellation, the storyline was magnificent, so no worries :)

GTAIV blows Saints Row out of the water. No comparison. I can't believe anyone would think Saints Row is even in the same league.

I dont know about blowing it out of the water... sure its probably better... I give you that... but they were developing GTAIV for like 5 years. Saints Row was almost a launch title! plus they gave you a VERY NICE demo so you new exactly what you were buying. By the way, if you have not played it download the demo or pick it up! its like $20!! Big games like Halo 3, GOW, and GTAIV, only gave you videos to force you to buy it. Did Saints Row rip off GTA? of course... am I complaining? heck no!! cant wait till SAINTS ROW 2!!!

GTAIV has a great, great story and gameplay that is incredibly refined. Saints Row was nothing more than a "filler" game that could barely hold you off until GTAIV came out.

WARHAWK FTW!!!
ya GTA was alittle bit of a let down with how much they removed this time. but like they said, new addons are coming so keep those fingers crossed

warhawk was nice! but they really needed a single player campaign mode! the online play was borderline broken... I couldn't tell you how many times I had a good battle going then all the sudden "server lost" "could not find host" type message would come up on my screen! plus no body I knew had a ps3. so I was playing it with strangers. and then most those people didn't even have a mic.... I just seemed sooo alone.... now xbox live.....that's a whole 'nother story!

Also, everyone, remember they were trying to be more realistic with this game, hence no hundreds of properties, military coming in with 6 stars, being able to escape the cops, etc. If you will all remember, in San Andreas they DID have customization for cars, your body, relationships, clothes, haircut, etc., so it's not like the franchise itself had never done these things. Saint's Row just copied and pasted directly from San Andreas, IMO.

Interesting comments.......but when people say they wanted it to be more realistic, that's when I gringe. If I wanted realism, I'll sit in the front yard and watch traffic go by.:) It doesn't need to be realisitc, that is what made Vice City and the others so much fun. Hell, I would have been happy if they just rehashed Vice City with better grpahics and some extra content. It seems they added too many little things. I don't need to be bothered by the in game cell phone from characters who want to "go play darts" when there is really nothing exciting about it after you have done it once or twice.

I would also argue with anyone who thinks Saints Row is garbage. It's not an easy task to sustain the appetite of GTA fans, but they did it and left us wanting more. I do enjoy GTA IV, and I look forward to bonus content, but I would argue with anyone who says this game lived up to its expectation, especially after the delay.

And no.........it wasn't impossible for it to live up to its expectation, if anyone was thinking that. There have been several games that lived up to their hype, this just isn't one of them.

I don't like Saints Row because of the customization. Essentially you're just a faceless person. I like the GTA series and especially GTAIV for the story. Also, while San Andreas was good, it was too big and there was too much extra junk. I prefer the smaller, more refined GTAIV.

Never played Saints Row, but comparing GTAIV to the previous games I can say that it is lacking in content. Sure, they story is great, but they took things out that I loved about the previous games.

-Planes- I know they said planes flying around in a large city was unrealistic, but I really liked the Hydra jet in GTA:SA, plus the stunt planes. I also think there should have been a lot more choice in helicopters, just like in the previous game.

-Vehicles- The variety seems lacking, and the ability to customize cars like in the previous game is missing.

-Property- I want a huge house with a huge garage to stash cars in, not a little parking space in front of an apartment! Better yet, give me an entire parking lot!

-Parachute- I loved taking planes or helicopters really high up and jumping out of them. Why did they take the parachute away? I want to be able to basejump off skyscrapers!

-Where is my tank!? That was one of the defining features of the GTA series, and I really feel like they nearly perfected the Rhino tank (especially how it looked) in SA, only to take it out for GTAIV!

All in all, I still think GTAIV is an amazing game that I know I will keep playing for a while, but it would have been so much better if they kept all the old features in. Right now GTAIV is taking all my time away from COD4 (Cpt Shrieker will come back guys, don't worry), so even with all the above points, I still love the game.

I agree 100% TeamFett! Especially about the parking spaces and no garages.

I just can't help but wonder why they made some of the changes they did.
