We had a riot here in Reykjavik last Wednesday , truckers have been protesting high gas prices for a few weeks now, but last Wednesday it hit the fan and here are the aftermaths.

I was in the middle of this, i´m one in the riot gear.

Than this happend when the truckers came to get their trucks from the pound. You have to scroll to 0:50 to see what happened at the impound.

there was about 50 cops that had shields and helmets and the rock hit the guy who was unprotected! Thats crazy... Im glad to see the police kept it from getting too crazy. something has to be done about gas prices its $3.65 reg and $4.25 in southern Indiana now.

"irony can be pretty ironic sometimes..."

It's just a matter of time before that happens here in the US. The truck drivers here are spending about $400 dollars to fill up their tanks and it's really hitting them hard.

I started the nightshift around 23:00 Tuesday and was supposed to be off around 07:00 on Wednesday morning but we got orders to stay longer just in case something might happen. So around 07:30 I decided to go to the cantina to get some breakfast, I just finished when we were told to gear up in riot gear, two 8 men units to start with. Then when they closed one of the highway out of the capital they started scrambling more riot units and almost every dectective were called to the scene.

I was off around 18:00 on Wednesday afternoon. Went to sleep aropun 22:00 so I did a 32hour tour.

The officer who got hit with the rock was ok. But the officer who the guy in the yellow jacket graped a hold off managed to break the officers nose.

I just got told that a group of 100 collage students closed on of Reykjavík´s biggest intersections. But they just finished clearing the street.

Glad to hear that you're okay. Sadly, I fear this is just a taste of what's to come worldwide in regards to the gas price issue. :(

This is the guy who broke the officers nose, his brother is a high ranking police officer for the national police comissioner of Iceland.

Thanks guys, years of training payed of for the whole team. It was kinda funny those huge truckers were talking about how they would pumble us to the ground and god know what, they even brought forth some cans of WD-40 " it was the can of death"

In the end, well they did not stand a chance. Like one reporter said, the riot team did a blitzgrieg on the truckers that caught them of guard.

Yeah, this was pretty strange to see on the news mobius. Not usual for the police to take such action here, and hope that it may never happen again.

Nauh, þriðji kominn á borðin! :cheers

that's crazy. i must have missed that on the news. i'm glad that the cops are able to keep things under control, but i think everyone here sympathizes with the truckers here.

and i'm feeling for that cop...he just got nailed right in the face.

Are you Icelandic Akaron? If so, you can check the news again on the main website, they save videos to the archives.
