Review: The Dark Knight ATTN! SPOILERS
So I attended the 1201 screening of The Dark Knight last night. WOW! That film is great. Go out and see it right now. Heath is amazing as the Joker. Bale puts on a good performance as the brooding bat. And whats his name makes a great Harvey Dent/Two-Face.
SPOILERS BELOW YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED....
So I was really happy to see that they killed off Rachel, I was so tired of her character that I was happy when Batman saved Harvey and not her. I was sad to see Harvey die at the end but I think he might have peeked as a villian in this movie. Joker actually lived...but of course he won't be in the sequel for real world deaths. The Joker's magic trick was the best magic trick I have ever seen! And I think just for a laugh I am going to do the Nurse Joker costume for one night at Dragon con.

I absolutely loved this movie.Considering that I didn't like the Rachel Dawes Character or Maggie Gyllenhaal I was a little satisified when she was killed. Heath Ledger was simply amazing! The intensity of his acting was incredible. I'm not even sure what to say since this movie simply left me speechless:D:cheering
and a midnight showing is always more fun when you go in costume

I absolutely LOVED IT. Holy cow, the wait was worth it. Heath did an AMAZING job as the Joker. Everyone else of course did amazing as well. I was a little bummed to see Harvey/Two-Face go out that fast, but he was amazing while he lasted. Just a little curious to see how a third installment be?

Re: Review: The Dark Knight ATTN! SPOILERS
I was waiting on this thread to appear! I cant wait! Read great reviews! I wont be able to see it until Monday, 20 year Santa Barbara High class reunion all weekend long.....
-
Re: Review: The Dark Knight ATTN! SPOILERS
Yeah saw it at midnight as well. Good movie. I hope that two-face comes back. We don't know for absolute certainty that he is dead. It could be like the comics and Bruce Wayne could personally pay for Harvey's rehabilitation.

Just had my 20 year HS reunion 2 years ago but I couldn't attend...have fun James! Would love to see this movie soon!

Re: Review: The Dark Knight ATTN! SPOILERS
Saw it at midnight too. Great great movie. Loved the magic trick too. There were a few other parts that I laughed out loud about, can't think of any off hand. I'll basically echo everything everyone else has said; glad Rachael died, Two-Face died too quickly, but is he really dead? There was a memorial, but that doesn't mean anything. speaking of glad things are dead, I was glad to see the tumbler get destroyed, oh there's another part I laughed at, the guy trying to Blackmail Wayne enterprises; Morgan Freeman's speech there was great. "Good Luck"! LOL
Summer movies ranked so far, I'd put Dark Knight in a neck and neck tie with IRON MAN, followed by The Hulk, then Wall-E, Hellboy II, Indiana Jones (bonus points for nestalgia or it would have been closer to the end) Get Smart, Kung Fu Panda, Jouney to the Center of the Earth, and The Happening is dead last by far. I still want to see Hancock and other stuff not out yet.
They had a trailer for the next Terminator movie too, that looks pretty good, though I think they should have stuck with the same actor from T3.
-
Re: Review: The Dark Knight ATTN! SPOILERS
I really like the tumbler, and who knows, they may rebuild it.I read somewhere that the next installment will possibly feature the riddler.should be a blast.
Bale has said that he would love to do more of these, and with the cash they make on this, I am sure they will.
-
Re: Review: The Dark Knight ATTN! SPOILERS
yea 12:01 showings!
the movie was amazing! it is amazing how well Joker was portrayed, heath ledger played the part so well! and what was really good about it, was that Joker could disgust you, frighten you, make you laugh, make you feel sympathetic, and make you think hard all at the same time! when he blew up the hospital and had to keep hitting the button, the entire crowd was in stitches laughing! and there was a lot of applause for his magic trick!
'how about a magic trick? i will make this pencil disappear"....BAM!..."Ta Da!" :suprise :lol :cheering

Re: Review: The Dark Knight ATTN! SPOILERS
Spoilers!!!!
If there is one movie u see this year, see the dark knight
There are rumors of Ledger receiving an oscar for best actor for his performance, and he definitely would deserve to win. This is not only the best movie I've seen this year, but the best superhero film I've ever seen. It's grounded in absolute realism, and goes where others have been afraid. Kevin Smith called it "the godfather 2 of superhero flicks", and I would have to agree.
Everyone keeps talking about Dent being dead, but I believe he survived the fall. The whole joker telling his origin made me cringe at first.... until he told a completely different one to someone else. That illusion, and outright confusion is what makes the character so great. I'm really glad they didn't go "origin" on the joker.
Once again, if you havent seen this film, run out and see it ASAP.

Re: Review: The Dark Knight ATTN! SPOILERS
I have every intention of seeing it at least one more time in IMAX. They actually shot the movie in IMAX (one of the first if I am correct). I just think it will look even better in IMAX. The movie has such a large scale and scope I can't think how IMAX wouldn't be amazing.
On a side note I am totally planning on doing a Nurse Joker costume with the little detonator just running around pushing the button looking disapointed.

Dude, yes. 8) You have to get videos of that.
As for multiple viewings, I just got back from my second time watching it, and it's just as amazing as the first. I'll probably see it one more time this weekend. And I haven't even started on the IMAX version yet. :wacko

I dont mean to be rude but they kind of dont have a choice in the matter...he will be replaced if they use the Joker again.

I love when you go to a movie and it gives you everything it was hyped up to give you ..and then a little more!! Snickers aint got nothing on The Dark Knight!! NOW THAT SATISFIES!!! but being the critic that I am....... I am a big believer if you cant bring back an original cast member..DON'T CAST SOMEONE ELSE!! DON'T DO IT...EVER... you can make references to the character, flash-backs ETC. Not one person I know liked Rachel.
and the 2nd nitpick..really small... if your going to put a Lamborghini in it, put the best one..its not like Bruce Wayne is broke... if your not sure which one im talking about, check it out...the Reventon' its only 1.3 million. I kept it big so you could use it as a screen saver!!:cheers
MY movie rating- "The Dark Knight" A

Even before the whole death, I assumed that they would only put the joker in the 3rd for maybe a 30 second cameo in Arkham. While another joker flick would be awesome.... Bale said he's done after three films, so there's lots to explore.
-
Re: Review: The Dark Knight ATTN! SPOILERS
I am sure they didn't put the 1.5 million dollar car in it since the smash it into peices. Remember when the truck hit it? Plus he just has the car for appearances, he could care less about that car.
I hope they don't do anything with the Joker in the next movie. Not that I didn't love him, I did, but with out Heath it would be terrible. If you want to have a scene in Arkham or something perhaps just a walk by his cell with his name on the door or something and a laugh as you pass. But that would be cheese ball.

Me too. Otherwise, had he really been dead, Batman would have killed him.
Also, there was a shot of the coin falling, and it landed face (good) side up.
Regarding a cameo by the Joker in the 3rd (assuming there is a third), I heard that there is actually quite a bit of footage of Heath Ledger as the Joker that went unused in this film.

I know a guy that saw that exact scene filmed in Chicago and a kit car was used for the crash.
I also had a question that arose in my mind the second time I saw the movie. Is the part where Bruce is talking to Fox about his new armor a reference to Catwoman when Fox says "should do fine against cats"???
Maybe Im over thinking it.
Fantastic movie and Heath Ledger gives in my opinion one of the greatest performances on screen by any actor alive or dead!!
-
Re: Review: The Dark Knight ATTN! SPOILERS
I think his reference about cats was that it wouldn't hold up against another dog bite. I always thought his suit was stronger than that anyways. Heck they have suits that can stop a shark from tearing your arm off.

I was actually thinking the same thing when I saw it:lol I don't think Fox was hinting at the existence of Catwoman in the Nolan Batman Universe but I think it was more of a little joke for the fans. Personally I wouldn't mind Nolan bringing Catwoman into the third film. Batman needs a bad girl;):lol

Re: Review: The Dark Knight ATTN! SPOILERS
I don't think anyone is going to hit the Joker better than Heath Ledger did.
I remember in preproduction I got a call from a buddy and he told me Heath was getting the role, at first I was like...hmmm I don't know if I can see him as the joker, as he's never been a real bad guy in any of his films.
Then I saw some production shots of the costume and it was dead on for me.
Once I saw a few clips I was psyched to see him.
Then he died. and I thought someone was pulling a prank or something.
I hope they don't do anything with the Joker again except flashbacks or modded superimposition scenes from all the scrapped footage from Dark Knight. I guess there was a lot of footage that had to be cut from this 2.5 hr blockbuster.
ahh, Aaron Eckhart was amazing too, the Two Face makeup was nuts. It's too bad the role didn't last longer.
So whose next?
Riddler? Penguin? Mr. Freeze? Poison Ivy? Clayface? (kidding)
-
Re: Review: The Dark Knight ATTN! SPOILERS
I think Catwoman might be in the next one. That is the way the comics have been going lately so it's possible.
-
Re: Review: The Dark Knight ATTN! SPOILERS
Saw it and liked it alot. My fav is still Returns, cant beat a good Tim Burton Batman.
-
Re: Review: The Dark Knight ATTN! SPOILERS
I have to say that the Joker was awesome, if they have any plans to bring him back, it is going to be tough to find someone to top Ledgers performance, speaking as an old comic book collector, he did an excellent job of portraying Jokers psychotic "I don't need a reason to kill you" attitude, as far as Harvey Dent/Two Face death... Nolan said with the very first movie with the batmobile "If it can't work in real life it's not on this car." I think it carried over to Two Face he couldn't make it as a "real world villain" so that was the reason for his quick death.

Re: Review: The Dark Knight ATTN! SPOILERS
i went to see it tonight with a friend that saw it opening night, fortunately she didn't spoil anything for me (i've also been avoiding this thread like the plague). i really liked heath as the joker, i would put it right along side of jack's. considering the direction burton took with the '89 film, jack did it right. the cat reference had my brain going right to catwoman. i didn't think they'd be turning harvey dent into two-face in this film (a-la billy dee williams, who then became a white guy in the third movie... weird), but i was satisfied with his characters death at the end because i fear for too many villains in one film. too many characters in just a few hours really kills momentum, starting with returns and continuing through batman and robin (batman, robin, batgirl, poison ivy, bane, and mr. freeze? dear lord. did i leave anyone out? spiderman 3 suffered from the same thing.). too many character, new characters taking up run-time with back story, and not enough time spent on what really matters. i think my biggest complaint would have been that two-face should have had a speech impediment and been drooling constantly.
what else, the cell phone spying trick. i think i just read something similar about that, that starting in a few years even if a cell phone isn't being used conversations and noise around the phone will be able to be transmitted and recorded.
i had a few other points i wanted to make but i can't remember them now. i'll probably go see it again and remember what i meant to say. as for another sequel: i would like to see catwoman, but she has to be done right. i'd like to see some reference to metropolis, expand the universe a little bit (honestly i'd love to see a "worlds finest" movie, i'm all about superman). and i definatly do NOT want to see the penguin in it. though bane done right might be interesting. hmmm....

Re: Review: The Dark Knight ATTN! SPOILERS
I think that the only reason why Bruce Wayne drives a Lamborghini Murcielago in Batman Begins and in The Dark Knight its because Murcielago is Spanish for Bat...:lol
Great Movie!!!
-
Re: Review: The Dark Knight ATTN! SPOILERS
Hey just saw it and though it was amazing!!! Nothing new there. I did have some points and questions... Yes I liked the death of the tumbler and of Rachel. This leads room for a possible batmobile maybe?? My biggest complaint was Two Face / Harvy. He was too short (though might not have died, they made it clear no one can know what happened to him so killing him off might be a good way to hide what happened to him) and his face bugged me. I honestly prefered Tommy Lee Johns as two-face. It looked so fake and for the first time corny. Also I've heard that Heath was signed on for two movies and there is already some footage of the next batmen with heath as joker...of course all just rumor. Well, I also believe catwoman is a great possibility... why mention "cat". Either way can not wait till the next moive. It's a GREAT movie summer!!!!!

Re: Review: The Dark Knight ATTN! SPOILERS
So, about a year ago, there was this an oppertunity to do some extra work for a movie they were filming here in Chicago. I went to the casting call and some time later, I got called back. I wound up in downtown Chicago. So, I get to be a mourner for a memorial scene... and the person giving the speech.. Gary Oldman. I sat behind him to his right, next to a huge picture of Harvy Dent. There were a bunch of other people with me on that stage. Come Friday 12:01 I'm with a buddy watching the movie, it comes to the last 10 min of the movie, and here is comish Gordon at Harvy Dent's memorial giving a speech... and over his right shoulder is ME! I'm sitting there in a grey trench coat behind Gary Oldman in a Batman movie!
So if you guys go to see the movie again, look for me :)
-
Re: Review: The Dark Knight ATTN! SPOILERS
harvey has to come back. batman fell too, and he got up ,and then what someone said about how the comic goes ...well thats your answer. love the joker. what heath did with the voice and lafgther ; it just complimented joker's pshyco humor. about joker, yea ived seen footage of when his in the asylum ...with those white jackets.and last but not least . love that batbike.

Re: Review: The Dark Knight ATTN! SPOILERS
I went and saw it today in IMAX (3rd time seeing the movie, 1st in imax) and it was just as amazing as the first time i saw the movie! The IMAX experiance is great most of the wide shots and big action sequences were filmed in IMAX. I was a little worried that you would notice when it switches from 35mm to 70mm but you really didn't, I did because I was looking for it but a couple of times I just noticed that it was larger then normal after it had been that way for a minute or two. If you have the chance go see it in IMAX.
BTW I saw it on the large flat screen IMAX not the dome style.

I think the Dome style is called OmniMax, I think it takes several projecters and has a bunch of speakers behind the screen. we have one in cincinnati as well as an IMAX which is the really big 2 story screen with 70mm film.
-
Re: Review: The Dark Knight ATTN! SPOILERS
I believe the dome screens used to be called Omnimax but a while back the company decided to change them to the same name to confuse everyone so now they are both called IMAX.
I know the screen here in Orlando is 6 stories if I heard correct.
-
Re: Review: The Dark Knight ATTN! SPOILERS
That is confusing. There needs to be some distinction...

Re: Review: The Dark Knight ATTN! SPOILERS
I saw this last week with my son and it was great. Ledger's performance was outstanding. I read somewhere that Johhny Depp is being looked at for a possible role as the riddler in a future movie. That would probably work well if they keep that character 'dark' like they did the joker in this movie.

1. I hope 2 face comes back as his body was never seen after the fall.
2. Totally loved the disappearing pencil trick! :lol TA-DAH...
3. The only thing that had spoiled it was that I watched that spoof Joker and BM interrogation on you-tube... sat thro the last 1/4 of the film listening to the BM and thinking of that spoof... ggrrr *mumble* Ah.. but fists! :doh:lol

He is for sure dead, interviews say so, apparently he would ask Nolan "Am I dead?" and of course, the answer was "Yes"
My quoting is no the most accurate, but yeah, he is.:)
and I am assuming you guys were speaking of two-face.
