Real MG 34 and MG 42 prices?

Hey guys, posted this over at the MEPD as well,

I have recently come across the opportunity to purchase a real MG 34 and MG42 from a friend. Don't know what a "fair" price would be for each of them. They look like they are in really great shape and are originals. Going over this Saturday to look at them again and take some more pics.

Can you guys help?

Thanks!

Geo

A real functioning MG 34 can go as high as 35k as long as it is sold by a class 3 dealer and you pay the $200 tax stmp + fees. A non-functioning metal replica could go for about $300 and up. Depends on quality of manufacture and so on. I have never heard of a production single fire "actual" MG 34 or 42. I could be wrong.

Thanks Boomer. Don't know if these are decommissioned or not. I would assume they are. I would also assume that if they aren't I should be able to cock and "dry fire" them. If they are then there should be some "play" in the bolt area.

Correct?

They are also heavy as HELL! I'm pretty sure that they are originals.

I've seen some at shows, but they seemed to have "show prices" on them; more for attracting people to the booth than really being for sale. You might be able to check in Shotgun News magazine... it might have some prices for functioning and/or replicas in there.

Anyone wanting to see both of these weapons fully functioning should check out the Knob Creek Machine Gun shoot this weekend in Knob Creek KY (south of Louisville).

I went to my first shoot in October and had a blast. The military gun show and the machine gun shoot are both "can't miss" for me now.

Thanks again guys, I'm going to assume that these are non working originals at this point until I get to look at them more. Will let you know.

you can get an MG34 without receiver for as little as $500 depending on condition. If it is in good condition and is in working order but no matching parts, you're looking at just a few grand. Matching parts gets more expensive. If you ever have a chance to buy an MG42 in good condition, buy it. MG42's in operating condition can go for 40k or more and their value keeps shooting through the roof.
