A Question for the younger crowd-

This is question is for the younger crowd- I guess you could say anyone under the age of 20 or so:

Most of the SW fans are old enough that they grew up with the Original Trilogy of movies, Episodes 4-6, and as such those movies are the ones that they are most fond of.

So for the under 20 crowd, having grown up with The Prequel trilogy, are you more fond of those episodes then the original trilogy?

Born in '87, but grew up with the original trilogy, and the only prequel I really like is the EP1. I got the DVD set with the original footage. No special edition, no 21st century graphics, just the good ol' original (though with some film clean up for clarity).

I was upset when they screwed up the DVD special edition of the orioginal trilogy. There were glitches all over the place, from ANH Luke's lgihtsaber being green then blue, to the digital cutting of those TIE fighters (the brown boxes around them as they fly), were all throughout. It was a hack job. No reason why that should have gotten past Lucas or anyone else.

I'll throw this entire thing into a loop. I'm not part of the younger crowd here, went to see the original SW when I was 9 back in 1977. Today, I enjoy much more watching the 3 newer movies than the older ones. From the characters, to the technology used in making the films, I like the newer ones far better.

I was born in '92 but I still grew up on the OT and proudly prefer it. Although all I had were versions that were vhs tapes recorded off of tv (remember the days before tivo lol) and I didn't have ROTJ for a very long time either. I never liked the prequels as much as the OT.

I'm born in 1988, but I grew up with the Original Trilogy. And I mean the ORIGINAL, as I saw ANH in 1992, when I was 4, and fell in love with them instantly. Then saw the special edition in the cinemas in 1997. So yeah, I've been with the original for longer than the prequels.

    ESB is still my favorite.

i first watched ESB at my friends house and thought it sucked pretty hard. but then they took me to see it in theatres (in 97, when the remakes were out) and it was downhill from there! but no, im not more fond of the new trilogy. although, epi 2 is in my top three, and epi 3 was kinda a monumental event for me and some choice friends

I'm about 19 and grew up with the OT as well. Still love is so much. My parents wouldn't let me watch ESB for a while because it was "too violent". Wow I was sheltered. Now I love ESB probably the most. I loved Ep 1 when it first came out. Also I remember 97 goign to taco bell all the time getting those sweet toys... good times...

I was born in 86, Today I turned 21. I'm going to tell everybody the truth. I used to think that Star Wars movies were BORING . I started getting interest in them just a couple years back when I saw Jango as cardboard standup where I worked. Back then I used to think that the mando armor was used by an average troop . So my interest in Jango resulted in renting AOTC. Since then I got hooked and I'm a big fan now. So you can say that I prefer the Prequels than the originals. ROTS is the only one I got to see at the theaters.

I remember when Episode 1 came out, me and my buddies would have lightsaber fights in the hallways of our high-school. I liked the newer trilogy but They still don't compare to the original trilogy.

I'm 20 today and I grew up on the original trilogy and got my main star wars bug from when the special editions came out in theaters. Even with that though I really enjoyed Episode 1 since that was the first thing I had watched after the originals. plus I had E1 on dvd for like a year before we got the 3 originals on VHS

My daughter is 5 and she prefers the original trilogy. I really figured she would like Episode 1 since Anakin was kid, but she almost always picks one of the original to watch, she even prefers the original on Lego Star Wars. Jango was the first character not out of the original that she wanted a costume of. She most often plays with the toys from the original also.

You just cant beat the original. Even being part of a Younger crowd, I think we still mostly grew up with the OT, being the ones the parents had on in the background.

I think my VHS copy of ROTJ ripped off TV is still somewhere in the house... Good times.

I'm 18, and I am a bigger fan of the OT than the prequels. I grew up with the OT. I remember going to see TPM in theaters with all my friends, but I still liked ESB better. Even when Ep2 came out, I liked the OT more. I guess it all depends on what you saw first, what made you a fan.

Born in 88 and I started watching them when I was 5, when USA showed ESB over the weekend got hooked. I only watch the Original Trilogy at my work, the unedited DVDs too, cant stand how they got butchered in the Special Edition. And I am proud to say I am the second youngest at my work and I have beaten my co workers who watched them them on the big screen back in the day at trivia.

Re: A Question for the younger crowd-

I think it depends on personal preference. Like, are you open to new things, or are you a purist etc. I saw the OT first, and I wish it to be untouched but I love the prequels also, and the EU. Others may not like the EU, but again that's personal preference.

That makes us all different :-)

So for the under 20 crowd, having grown up with The Prequel trilogy, are you more fond of those episodes then the original trilogy?
Actually, the prequels came out in 1999. Those who are born in '89 were 10 at the time, and those born in 1992-1993-1994 were old enough to understand the originals as well. But where you were introduced to them depends too. I had a great uncle who let me watch the movies, so it's all thanks to him.

Re: A Question for the younger crowd-

    Age 19 until December 31st, 2007.

I grew up with Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. I didn't even know STAR WARS existed until mom actually bought the 3 VHS package for Christmas one year. The other two were recorded off of the TV. Then they came out in theaters a few years later with STAR WARS being retitled A New Hope, and then I saw Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi again; ROTJ being my favourite at the time. Then The Phantom Menace came out, which I loved, then came Attack of the Clones, I only saw it once in theaters, and have still pretty much only seen it once. When I saw Revenge of the Sith in theaters, this opened up my interest in Star Wars again.

Re: A Question for the younger crowd-

I have every release of Star Wars... Every Version... The original release of 4-6 in a VHS Box Set, and on DVD, as well as the Special Editions, and the Prequel Adapted Editions. I also have all the Prequels as well, on VHS and DVD..

I must be the only person here so far to not see it as one better than the other, but as a progression of the story.... I love the story throughout... Now being Anakins life story instead of Luke Skywalkers, yet i can still appreciate either... I do prefer the lightsaber duels and fight scenes in the prequels better, but also I love the classic stances and combat in the originals, showing a rookie Luke up against a time beaten mechanical sith... shows the struggle being even between the two..

But one thing is for certain... Jar Jar is no C-3PO replacement.. :p

Is there anyone else on here that still watches them in this order.. 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3...? I get that way sometimes, more enjoyable...

Born in 1981, saw ROTJ in the theater at the wee age of 2 and grew up on the OT. I consider the PT and OT to be equal, with some aspects of the PT better than the OT and vice versa. It's all Star Wars to me and each movie has its strengths and weaknesses.

Born in '83 - Though I never saw the OT in the theaters, I did watch them on TV. They would come one like once a year on TNN (or whatever the staion was back then). It was a huge family event - My dad, brother and I would all watch them together...while my mom pretended to watch...

My brother was born in '74 and grew up with Star Wars and was a huge fan too growing up.

I have seen every NT movie on opening day, but they don't compared to IV-VI.

I-III are pretty bad and incosistent...But I still have an appreciation for them.

I am working on a Jango costume, but not because I like the character - it's because his costume is awesome, and more kids (9 and younger) recognize him... So it will be more fun to troop with.

I don't know, I watched the original first when I was uber little, before ep 123. I think I still have the tape for New Hope. R2 was my fovarite because I thought he was SO CUTE. Anyways, it's not like I was into SW when I was a kid (I was busy with barbie dolls and stuff) however my first logo set was a Biker Tropper set with Luke.
    O_o
I saw ep1 when it came out and had no idea what was going on. I skipped ep2 and then I went and saw ep3 in the theatre because I thought Darth Vader was hot.
I think that's when I finially got into it because I was like 'dude, R2 kicked ***'. But I got more and more into it after I started to make my custome (I had done many customes from other movies before). And now, **** it, I'm obsessed.

Oh and young Obi is hot too... and Han solo... hmmm Han Solo... the original Jack Sparrow...

Born in 91 - and I watched the OT on cassette. I saw Ep I, II, and III all on release day, and Ep I what made me a hardcore SW fan. I loved seeing the new movies in the theaters and have better memories of them. Do I prefer them over the OT? Not really - but its that warm fuzzy kid feeling I get when I watch all of them.

    holy snap!!!!

    Legos FTW!!!

Anyways I don't think the movies are what turned me into a hard core fan. It's only after reading the novels that I become obsessed. (Han Solo trilogy, then legacy, and a few comics) So you can say I'm more of a fan of the EU then the movies :p

I'm 21, so I was 12 when TPM came out in theatres. And yes, I'll admit it, I was a Jarjar fan. I even learned the voice, and would mimic him in school just to annoy other people.

Personally, I could not pick one trilogy over the other. I love Star Wars in its entirety. I prefer some aspects of each over the other. Aside from the obviously better digital effects, the prequels have better locations, and a more diverse population, IMO. However, the originals have better characterization. It's a balance.

In my eyes, though, Star Wars is nothing without the EU. That's what I love most, especially the NJO and Legacy eras. And anything with Mandalorians. Kar'buir has really made a remarkable culture. In my eyes, she's right up there with Tolkien in terms of how much passion, detail, and depth she has in her writing.

Born in 86. My dad took me to see the re-release of the OT and I have been hooked ever since. The prequels could never match the OT in my mind. The older movies seem more realistic due to the lack of technology at their disposal at the time. It was also more epic in my mind. The prequels felt more like a side story... it was really cool to see many parts of the OT grow into what they would later be. I can't help but love the clone troopers though.

Born in 1990 and still 17, I grew up with the Prequel trilogy. But when it comes down to it, I would choose the Original Trilogy. Not because of the story but because of the cool characters. Their is the fuzz ball Chewie, the wize an slick Han Solo, the giant rancor, and my favorite of course....Boba Fett.

ESB RTJ pwn all other episodes, parts of 2 and 3 were good, 1 was only cool when maul got chop'd but they just dont even come close to the esb or jedi. he should have just made 1 2 3 just the same way he did with 4 5 6. 1 2 3 almost feel like episodes to a different movie if you understand where im coming from...its like someone else wanted to tell starwars and made it on their computer and greenscreened it all, 4 5 6 have soul .

Ha ha, now that would be a great bumper sticker. "The OT's got SOUL!"

Not to worry guys as I too am twice the age of the majority of the posters in this thread. I remember growing up with the original trilogy ( saw them all in the theater ), and I had a good chunk of the toys as well... too bad I sold them all off a few decades ago.

I have no preference of SW films. I grew up watching ANH constantly on VHS.
It wasn't until '93 or '94 that I knew there were ESB and ROTJ. I was uber-freaked out by Vader's helmet coming off. I had a certain image of him and then they flip it around on me.
    score:
    ANH--****
    ESB--****
    ROTJ--****

Once TPM was released, I thought "Cool!!!!"
JarJar was cool to me at the time. He was the first TPM figure I got, followed by C3PO and a battle droid. I had *most* of the figures from the film.
    Score:
    ***
AOCT came out, and I was "Sweet......is JarJar going to get shot?"
Well, he didn't. The hundreds of jedi was cool.
I liked it, but there were still a few things missing to me.
    score:
    ** 1/2

ROTS.......well, the clone armor was cool. The fights were awesome, and it was great to see Mace fight like he meant it. Still wanted to see JarJar get basted a little.
    Score:
    ***3/4

    Total:
OT wins by 2 3/4 stars.

If they would ahve made the prequels with the same "feel" as the original trilogy, it would be ultimately awesome!!! If they had some sense of continuity, it'd be perfect.

OKay, I might have a slight lean toward the original trilogy. lol

I completely agree with that statement! TPM, AOTC, ROTS just don't feel liks SW films...more like there own autonomous action/sci-fi flicks... They just don't flow with ANH, EWB and ROTJ.

They are good films...just not what I consider Star Wars to be.

Re: A Question for the younger crowd-

what.! no man, anyone that is around 20 grew up more on the OT than the prequels. I'd say birthdays in the 90s grew up on prequels.

Being born in the 80s meant : star wars, gijoes, ninja turtles, masters of the universe, marvel, dc, aliens, etc. etc.

i think the reason the prequels disappoint me so much is the fact at how much better the OT really is

I was born in 85, and I also grew up on the OT. I got really big into it though when the OT came out on tape for "the last time." it was also the same year the POTF 2 line came out, and then i got treated to getting the chance to see them in the theaters in 97. been die hard ever since.

yeah, that definitely was cool too. i hated some stuff about the special editions (jabba in ANH and the sarlacc mouth in ROTJ) (also the cantina alien replacements) but seeing STARWARS in general on a big screen was amazing.
I wasn't of comprehendable age when ROTJ came out in 1983, it would have been cool to see at least one original release in theatres but ah well.

the special editions in theatres were great for getting people back into star wars or into

    Here here !!!!

Saw Episode 4 the day it premiered. I was 5 or 6. It's been a way of life every since. Yeah, feelin old !

I think that more of the "younger crowd" in general would prefer the OT more than one might think. It is timeless. And story driven, not SPFX driven. And although it's a bit dated in the SPFX respect, I don't think it's something that a "younger" person would look at like "we" (the older crowd) would look at "War of the Worlds" and go ... "yuk, it feels too old". George was waaaaay ahead of his years, and gave the best of both worlds at the time. They have stood the test of time, and probably always will.

Oh, and "Death" to Jar-Jar !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
