A Question for the younger crowd-

Born in 86. My dad took me to see the re-release of the OT and I have been hooked ever since. The prequels could never match the OT in my mind. The older movies seem more realistic due to the lack of technology at their disposal at the time. It was also more epic in my mind. The prequels felt more like a side story... it was really cool to see many parts of the OT grow into what they would later be. I can't help but love the clone troopers though.

Born in 1990 and still 17, I grew up with the Prequel trilogy. But when it comes down to it, I would choose the Original Trilogy. Not because of the story but because of the cool characters. Their is the fuzz ball Chewie, the wize an slick Han Solo, the giant rancor, and my favorite of course....Boba Fett.

Im 19 so ever since i could walk it was starwars this starwars that
ESB RTJ pwn all other episodes, parts of 2 and 3 were good, 1 was only cool when maul got chop'd but they just dont even come close to the esb or jedi. he should have just made 1 2 3 just the same way he did with 4 5 6. 1 2 3 almost feel like episodes to a different movie if you understand where im coming from...its like someone else wanted to tell starwars and made it on their computer and greenscreened it all, 4 5 6 have soul .

Ha ha, now that would be a great bumper sticker. "The OT's got SOUL!"

Not to worry guys as I too am twice the age of the majority of the posters in this thread. I remember growing up with the original trilogy ( saw them all in the theater ), and I had a good chunk of the toys as well... too bad I sold them all off a few decades ago.

I have no preference of SW films. I grew up watching ANH constantly on VHS.
It wasn't until '93 or '94 that I knew there were ESB and ROTJ. I was uber-freaked out by Vader's helmet coming off. I had a certain image of him and then they flip it around on me.
score:
ANH--****
ESB--****
ROTJ--****

Once TPM was released, I thought "Cool!!!!"
JarJar was cool to me at the time. He was the first TPM figure I got, followed by C3PO and a battle droid. I had *most* of the figures from the film.
Score:
***
AOCT came out, and I was "Sweet......is JarJar going to get shot?"
Well, he didn't. The hundreds of jedi was cool.
I liked it, but there were still a few things missing to me.
score:
** 1/2

ROTS.......well, the clone armor was cool. The fights were awesome, and it was great to see Mace fight like he meant it. Still wanted to see JarJar get basted a little.
Score:
***3/4

Total:
OT wins by 2 3/4 stars.

If they would ahve made the prequels with the same "feel" as the original trilogy, it would be ultimately awesome!!! If they had some sense of continuity, it'd be perfect.

OKay, I might have a slight lean toward the original trilogy. lol

I completely agree with that statement! TPM, AOTC, ROTS just don't feel liks SW films...more like there own autonomous action/sci-fi flicks... They just don't flow with ANH, EWB and ROTJ.

They are good films...just not what I consider Star Wars to be.

what.! no man, anyone that is around 20 grew up more on the OT than the prequels. I'd say birthdays in the 90s grew up on prequels.

Being born in the 80s meant : star wars, gijoes, ninja turtles, masters of the universe, marvel, dc, aliens, etc. etc.

i think the reason the prequels disappoint me so much is the fact at how much better the OT really is

I was born in 85, and I also grew up on the OT. I got really big into it though when the OT came out on tape for "the last time." it was also the same year the POTF 2 line came out, and then i got treated to getting the chance to see them in the theaters in 97. been die hard ever since.

yeah, that definitely was cool too. i hated some stuff about the special editions (jabba in ANH and the sarlacc mouth in ROTJ) (also the cantina alien replacements) but seeing STARWARS in general on a big screen was amazing.
I wasn't of comprehendable age when ROTJ came out in 1983, it would have been cool to see at least one original release in theatres but ah well.

the special editions in theatres were great for getting people back into star wars or into

A good story is a good story, timeless and not defined by better special effects.

Here here !!!!

Saw Episode 4 the day it premiered. I was 5 or 6. It's been a way of life every since. Yeah, feelin old !

I think that more of the "younger crowd" in general would prefer the OT more than one might think. It is timeless. And story driven, not SPFX driven. And although it's a bit dated in the SPFX respect, I don't think it's something that a "younger" person would look at like "we" (the older crowd) would look at "War of the Worlds" and go ... "yuk, it feels too old". George was waaaaay ahead of his years, and gave the best of both worlds at the time. They have stood the test of time, and probably always will.

Oh, and "Death" to Jar-Jar !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
