    Mar 29, 2008, 9:52 AM - "Public Enemies" #1

I know there are other members on this forum who have participated in the filming of the movie, but I thought I'd share my experiences.

"Public Enemies" is a film about John Dillinger due to be released in 2009. John Dillinger will be portrayed by Johnny Depp.

It is being filmed in some of the original Dillinger locations.

They filmed the famous "Great Escape" scenes in the ORIGINAL jail that Dillinger ACTUALLY escaped from in 1934 using a fake gun carved out of soap/wood.

That jail is in Crown Point, IN. My girlfriend and I visited the set on Wednesday 3/26 and took some photos. I live about 30 minutes away from Crown Point.

This kind of thing rarely happens around here, the last time a movie was filmed near here, it was "Prancer" ....sigh

Crown Point is a city that hasn't evolved since the 30's, so a lot of it looks the same from Dillinger's day.

I originally planned to be an extra, but never got around to mailing the application in. Oh, well. I know there are a few members here who were though...

Anyway, a very cool experience overall and after waiting all day, my girlfriend got to see Johnny Depp. She is still beaming!

I must apologize for some grainy photos. We were not allowed to use flash...

That's really cool BobaMatt! You are extremely lucky to have been able to get all of those pictures! I wonder how the movie will interfere with every day life in your town? When "Pay It Forward" and "Miss Congeniality 2" were filmed down the street from my old residence in Las Vegas, we had to get a pass just to be able to access the neighbourhood.

I like the picture you got of Johnny Depp, he's so short, haha. It's funny how a large amount of actors are extremely short. My girlfriend (5'6") is an actress who was in movies such as "Benchwarmers" and "Austin Powers," and about the only actor who isn't shorter than her was John Heder.

Your girlfriend was in Benchwarmers and Austin Powers? That's really cool, man.

Great pics, Bobamatt! My girlfriend will be jealous! She's the biggest Depp fan I know, and a creepy little tidbit, with her costume facial hair, she looks a lot like him. Not that she looks like a man.

If your girlfriend sees him again address him as 'Colonal Depp' It is a title he honors. Given to him by a close friend whom he respects dearly. (Hunter S. Thompson) He enjoys being reminded of that.

My parents work in vintage clothing and were contacted by United Costuming Co. to supply some period clothing for the movie. The wardobe dept. usually just takes the clothes and makes pattens of them if they are meant for the main actors. So they can be tailored properly. But most of the time they are for the extras.

Funny how you should mention those movies, when Miss Congeniality was filming in San Antonio on the river walk, my gf and I were walking at the same time it was filming and didn't even know it. We came to a point where we saw some equipment around but had no idea what was going on. When all of a sudden we turned around and Sandra Bullock walks right past us and smiles and says hi. We just stood there in a daze not registering if what we saw was real or not...lol

the best i got is i forced another take on a shot for "a river runs through it" when it was being filmed in livingston Mt when i was 11 or 12. riding my bike through town, cut through an alley that must have been overlooked, because it wasn't blocked off. next thing i know the street is all graveled, i'm riding right through the middle of a scene, and redford is screaming "CUT!!!"

Wow, all you guys are bragging about meeting famous people. What have I got? Let's see...On the Thursday night at CIV Matt Wood had a few pints at Casey's with myself, Jentress, Thomas, Fangs, and a few others. And at D*Con Matt gave me a hug. He's going to be coming to the Calgary Expo at the end of April, so I get to see my ol' buddy again. Good times. But yeah, other than conventions...I haven't really had any run-ins with famous people.
