Re: problem with a member here in a transaction

That is a very unfortunate situation indeed.

The one thing I have come to find with international transactions is that you have to spell everything out in detail BEFORE any trading is done. For example, I will not ship anything with a value over $100 out of the US without the buyer paying shipping for Global Express Service (which can be tracked) and Insurance. If they are unwilling, then I don't sell to them.

I am trying to understand why you didn't simply return the US money order immediately and have fallenjedi send an international money order instead?

Also, I am not sure why fallenjedi is returning the armor unless you have agreed to accept the return? It sounds like you don't agree with his assessment of the damage, so why are you allowing him to return it at this point?

I'm sorry this has gone public but I want to share my side.
Arod_Fett specifically asked for a 'US Postal money order', I have 2 PM's from him stating this. He would not accept Paypal, only a 'US Postal money order. That is what I sent him.

Arod_Fetts avatar is one pic he provided to show the armor.
The other pics Arod_Fett provided did not accuratley represent the costume. If this had been a face to face transaction and I had seen the costume I would not have bought it.

I am going to return the armor to him, we are both out shipping cost but I feel this is the best solution.

Please look at my photo album here on TDH to see an example of what I received.

Re: problem with a member here in a transaction

i did have alook at the photos.....the armor did not look like that when it was shipped!!!!! the gauntlet was in good condition... the hoses were off , but that was it..... what happen to the armor.... was there any sign of damage to the box ??? this should be something you take up with fedex.... from what i understood, the armor had rub n buff on it....

i did specify sending a U.S postal money order , but one that could be cashed in canada.... the reason i said that , was because , i sold things in the past and people sent me money orders , but for places like money mart or some other institution that we dont have in canada.....

I really don't want to become an arbiter here, but given what you have both said on the Money order issue, arod_fett, it seems that you are confused about money orders and asked for the wrong thing. There are, to the best of my knowledge, two major types of money orders that can be purchased here in the US, US Money Orders and International Money Orders. It seems that you asked for a "US Money Order" and fallen jedi sent you one. If that is what you asked for, it isn't fallen jedi's responsibility to question the type of payment you wanted. Depending on how much or how little international trade he has been involved in, he may not have even realized that a US money order would not be able to be cashed in Canada, but regardless of what he knew or didn't know, according to your statements, he gave what you asked for. Based on this, the exchange rate change costs and the cost of shipping the money order back to fallen jedi, really fall on your head, arod_fett, because it was your mistake to ask for a US Money Order in the first place. I know that stinks, but based on what you guys have posted, you can't really blame fallen jedi for doing what you asked.

Just to make sure I am not way off, could one of you post a quote from the PM where you arod_fett originally asked for the money order?

The "this isn't what I thought it would be" part of the problem is a whole different issue.

I am thinking you are right on about the heat and the rub and buff getting in other places. The thing is... couldn't the pieces simply be buffed back out fairly easily? How did you have these wrapped for shipping? Bubble wrap? Plastic?

i do realize and i am sorry about the confusion i may have made with the mistake on the money order.... after we realized that it could not be cashed in canada, fallen jedi told me to send back the money order and he would send the money to my friends paypal account....when i sent the armor it was in fine condition.... i did have bubble wrap in and around the costume .... i just know that i sent a good costume and what was posted of the pant coming off , had nothng to do with me

my friend said that the rub and buff should come off the vest with some type of solution... and it shoud be easy to put the rub and buff back on.... i am not to familar with the rub and buff thing... when i got the costume it was already silver.... i normally wear the TK armor....

Re: problem with a member here in a transaction

I think the rub and buff issue can be pretty easily worked out, if fallen jedi is willing to work with you. The thing to remember is that rub n buff isn't paint. It is a colored wax. It is also never really permanent, which is good and bad. It means if it is damaged, it can be corrected easily, but it also means, it can get on things. Hopefully you guys can take it from here, privately, and come to a good conclusion.

thanks for the input.... maybe he will see that the rub and buff can be fixed.... i think 740.00 shipped was a good deal for a full costume.... it had a fiberglass helmet , leather pouches , resin blasters, which now i believe had rub and buff on them as well....don if you see this . maybe i can work ya better deal for your troubles,i will take 100.00 off but this really was not my fault.... pm me and we will chat.... thanks rod

Very Cool to see things worked out. I know how it is to send something shipped in good condition and have it arrive in less than the condition i packed it in. Arod can tesify to that. Hope things turn out well for both of you guys.

Re: problem with a member here in a transaction

Ok, just want to share some issues I've experienced with Arod_Fett.

    • He originally asked me to pay a third party for the costume, this person would accept Paypal payment and send him a 'Batman Panther suit' that he wanted and he would mail me the Jango costume. I would not agree to this.
    • He asked for a US postal money order, when he could not use that he told me that was my fault.
    • Now he is telling me this was supposed to be Christmas money instead of a Batman Panther suit-not really an issue for me but it is continued evidence of his lack of honesty with me.
    • He told me that the suit was sent out on the Nov 17th, according to FedEx it was sent out a week later on Nov 24th.

    Costume issues:

    • Gauntlet hoses were not included and were cut off at gauntlet, it was not depicted like this in the photos he provided.
    • One gauntlet has a hinge not attached.
    • Blasters are of very poor quality.
    • Vest and chest armor were badly scratched. I do not believe this is due to heat because the scratches are not just in the paint but in the plastic as well.
    • The helmet was supposed to have padding, the padding was torn out of the helmet and not included. (glue remains in helmet)
    • The shipping box had spray paint inside.
    • Overall the costume is just not what I expected and I don't feel that the pictures accurately represented it.

For the curious, please see my photo album for photos of everything.
Arod_Fett had his for sale post deleted so the photos in it are no longer available for everyone to compare what he advertised versus what I got.

I do not believe that FedEx caused any of the problems listed above.

Also, I got 2 second opinions over the weekend about the armor and both share my feelings about the costume. They felt that what I got was not the armor in the pictures that Arod_Fett advertised.

This has been an horrible experience for me as a buyer. Overall I feel Arod_Fett has been less than honest with me.

I am returning the armor to Arod_Fett.

Re: problem with a member here in a transaction

After looking at the pics, some of the damage to the paintjob/rubnbuff look to be from heat exposure and bubblewrap, I have seen the same thing happen before. I do admit that the scratching does look rather strange. The blaster looks to of taken possible bubblewrap heat damage.

How long did it take to ship? More or less how long was it boxed up. You'd be amazed what heat can do to paintjobs covered with bubblewrap(that being said, scratching like that isn't likely) and what it can do to glue. It is quite possible, looking at the gauntlet, that the hinge glue may of popped off due to heat. Now, that paint mark on the box, could be from anything, he may of used that box to test a spray can, or rubnbuff. So, that wouldn't mean much in the situation.

I am not taking any sides on this, just pointing out the facts so that it is clear that some stuff could of been caused by the package heat. Plus, if it was going through customs...they may of opened it...could of looked through it, and just tossed stuff around and caused possible scratching...the way that companies treat packages isn't suprising at all. Overall, there is no telling what happened.

Re: problem with a member here in a transaction

I've read this entire post and certainly feel bad for both parties. I'm trying to be objective here so please don't think I'm taking anyone's side.

I certainly understand the frustration on the part of the seller regardless of the money order debacle. But I will say that all of the repairs that were mentioned are not "easy". And no one wants to buy a suit advertised as "ready to wear" then have to spend hours repairing and restoring it for use regardless if it's Fedex's fault or not.

Arod, the talk of "legal action" in this case seems excessive. It doesn't seem necessary to get a lawyer involved. Everyone lost on this one. It blows, I understand.

It seems that neither party tried to intentionally mislead the other and no direct subterfuge can be aimed at either. I really feel it's time to shake hands and let it go.

Arod, you can repair the armor and resell it and Jedi can find another armor set elsewhere. Right now everyone is acting with class and it would be a shame to see this unfortunate situation devolve into legal action and bad blood.

    Just my .02

Technically, no, you don't, but if you don't, the chances of anyone here being willing to buy from you or sell to you is very unlikely. I think you will find members here believe that a seller should satisfy a buyer's reasonable expectations, which are usually that the buyer receives what he saw in the images when he bought the item.

I know this is a complicated issue, but again, if the armor was damaged in transit, I think most would agree that it is the seller's responsibility to take it up with the shipping company, not the buyer. According to what fallen jedi has posted, there are issues with the armor that are outside any shipping issues, such as the gauntlet hoses and helmet padding.

I understand you are in financial tights (as are we all) but I would urge you to do the right thing in this case and take the armor back. If you feel it was damaged during shipping, take it up with the shipping company. Just my thoughts.

Thanks for the input everyone, I appreciate getting some outside perspectives.

All I'm wanting to do is simply to return the costume to Arod, at my cost.
I think at the end of all that's a fair solution.

I've done business with a few of the well known suppliers on this site and I have to say that everyone of them was committed to my satisfaction. MOW, Cruzer, Asok, FettDad, Bobamaker never batted an eye at offering to make any transaction right in any way that I thought fair.

Not that I had issues with every item I purchased but that commitment was made clear at the time of purchase. As a buyer that kind of commitment to quality can't be beat. The seller should always guarantee satisfaction!

Re: problem with a member here in a transaction

i was going to buy a batman panther suit , but ened up putting the money into xmas gifts.... i just want to say the costume did not look like that when it left here...
the costume left here on the date that was told to fallen jedi... but it did not show up on thier tacking system for a week later when fallen jedi said that he could not see any action in the fed ex site.... i went to fed ex the next monday morning and the lady told me that there had been bad snow storms in new brunswick where the tracking of this item starts and this is why there was delay. maybe thats where the problem starts , i dont know....

i really dont feel i should have to take this back , but i will.... fallen jedi , you can ship it back , but can you ship it back after xmas, i just want to avoid the xmas rush so that the box does not get thrown around by shippers at this time of year......

if anyone is interested , in this suit as is... i would take 500.00 for it , that is a major loss for me on this... if there is no one interested i will fix it to what it once look like and put it on ebay.... thanks for the input from the members here on the forum..... rod

fallen jedi must have a listening problem, i did accept to take it back , and all i asked was for him to wait till after the xmas rush , just because of the time of year.... i wanted to avoid any further damage becasue of how things are handled ..then i get an email from him saying its shipped... on top of that , he did not ask me for my address , i have since moved from the old address so if it goes there , it will more than likely go back to the united states...... man this has been a nightmare dealing with him....

Re: problem with a member here in a transaction

I have to disagree rupidupe the people you name have the ability to create MULTIPLES of their items. they CAN offer more services. But to the guy who offers only 1 item and May get caught with an overly nitpicky or exploitative buyer ( I have been taken advantage of this type twice). They always cite quality as an excuse. i stopped doing bussiness with e bay as they seem to ALWAYS side with the buyer in these cases no matter how much proof you have . Simply.. It's a scam like any other.

This is not the situation here but if people took this situtation to be the norm the nthe average bloke who sells one item can be severerly sc---d over JUST the shipping costs in one transaction. ( another 2 tranactions this has hurt me on). As a precaution I No longer sell whole costumes to people. I would rather part them out.
Insurance is bought to insure the receiver gets his goods intact ( I was a martial arts supplier at on time) NOT the seller. Following up on it can be either the seller or the buyer depending on IF the buyer was supplied the insurance number upon shipping. this is notoriously the WORST time of the year to ship as I have has well packaged Items crumpled twice with no USPS response. just denial.

I emailed you days ago that I would be returning the armor and even told you the day I would make it to the post office. You've had plenty of time to let me know about any address changes.
In any case, it was sent through the mail system, as long as you have your address updated with the post office there will be no problem. Also, you have the tracking number which will help to monitor delivery.

Re: problem with a member here in a transaction

i dont care if i get banned from here today, but for those that have been following this, this seems to get worse and wrose..... i feel this guy fallen jedi owes me 70.00 at this point it cost me 100.00 out of my pocket for the exchange rate , another 40.00 to send his money order back and now when the costume comes back to me i am charged with another 70.00 from customs.... so at this point i am out $210.00 and a damged jango costume.... i want to refunded the 70.00 that i will have to spend to get this costume back...... i feel like getting on a plane and paying this guy a visit....

Re: problem with a member here in a transaction

The whole thing is bad apples. I gotta say, the thread has made me not want to buy or sell to either person involved.

I have to agree that FallenJedi got a product that wasnt represented well. especially with the foam ripped out of the helmet and the hoses cut off. And horrible packaging by wrapping the rub and buff in plastic bubble wrap

I'm certainly lucky we were too late with the PM to buy the costume. I too would have been extremely ticked off it I got the package he got and would have wanted to send it back too.

one thing to come out of this is to know you should ALWAYS insist a buyer pay for insurance on items such as this. ALWAYS. Always, always.

Careful, friend. Per the TDH Code of Conduct, under Threats:
"A member who makes any type of threat against another member, the administration or TDH as a whole will be immediately and permanently banned. This includes physical threats, legal threats or verbal threats. This policy will be enforced whether the incident happens on TDH or not."

    Just a heads-up.

What you said is an implied threat to go and "pay him a visit". I would advise you to choose your words more carefully. I understand being upset, but we will not tolerate any type of threat against another member.

Re: problem with a member here in a transaction

I'm just curious... members have mentioned that heat may have caused the damage on the armour. What kind of high tempratures are we talking about? 60 C / 140 F, 100 C / 200 F ??

How likely is it that the package has been exposed to these kinds of tempratures?

    Oh.. and just incase..

    in before the lock..

Re: problem with a member here in a transaction

i have no idea what kind of heat it would have been exposed to, the box was delayed in shippng because of bad weather from newfoundland to new brunswick , canada ..... all i can say it that i sent a decent suit and what i am getting back is not what i sent, plus i am out 210.00 ..... i am at the point that i will never sell from this forum or buy from this forum...... and as for threats , did i say i would harm the member? i just said i would pay him a visit......

This thread has more than run its course. I feel there is no longer anything positive to be gained from it. Any further differences need to be handled privately.
