Playstation 3 ??

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Playstation_3#Retail_configurations

I trust the Wiki. I believe they plan to enable it in the future. The reason for this is that the way they did the backward compatibility, they put the processor from the PS2 on the PS3 motherboard. To cut production costs and offer a more affordable PS3, they took the chip off the motherboard. So they would have to have a software emulation available for download. I don't own a PS3, so I can't confirm this for reals, but like I said, I would trust wikipedia.

pff blueray, why when you can play halo 3 and gears of war with a beautiful xbox360? ^^

guess it's just a matter of opinions of course but... imo xbox360 > PS3

now is the time to make friends with someone that manages a pawn shop for that sweet 60gb ps3, the one that had the hardware emulation for ps2, unlike the 80gb that only had software emu that was terrible.

basically, the 40gb version will do software emulation of ps2 games. that means that in the future when the playstation store has ps2 games for download, the system will be able to do it, but ya... u cant play ur old ps2 games. So, if you're looking to build a ps3 game library, or love movies and want to go 1080p, then this is what u wnt to buy. I have one of the 60gb systems from launch, and love it. Personally, I find that there are plenty of games for the amount of time I can actually sit and play, so no worries.

So ya, long story short, it cant play ps2 games, but in the future will play downloaded ps2 games.

the 60gb is the one with the built in hardware emulation. that one is made to play ps2 games. there's no issue with yours because you have the right one.

i have a 60 gig ps3 and its my favorite out of the 3 systems i have. yes halo is amazing but warhawks just as good for online play. if you some how find a 60 gig out there grab it!!! or (now this is just a rumor from my buddy at circut city) you can wait for the suposed new 60 gig or 120 gig ps3 they suposobly have in the works

plus a large positive over my 360 is that online play is FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! i just hate what microsoft does with xbox live. if you just paid $60 for a game than all the games features should come free of charge. major updates/Add ons aside

yeah that kinda sucks, as if the games arent expensive enough... but since i dont play xbox live alot it's okay, imo it's just as great to just get a couple of friends over and play gears of war in mp, it's just awesome

but i guess ps3 is probably great, just dont have the money for it hehe :facepalm

Ya, if you're interested in picking one up, and you really like playing games, I would wait just a bit. There are rumors about the 120gb system, but the main thing is that they have put dualshock back into the controllers (thing that makes them vibrate) so you will want to get a system that comes with the Dualshock3 controller. Plus they'll have some good bundles that included GTAIV, and MGS4.

Well even for the 60 or 80GB PS3, Sony doesn't guarantee that they will be backward compatible with most of the PS2 games.

EH just buy a Wii and have fun playing games!

hehe the wii is cool, had one for half an hour, had to sell it because the price was to much when i got it and i wanted a new guitar instead, but if i would own a wii i'd have to get myself a big closet to lock myself into while playing it so no one would see me standing infront of a TV jumping around and swining my arms with a white STICK in my hand

...no offense, always been a nintendo man but i decided to rather get a xbox in the end (y)

I bought a 80Gb model last fall/winter. It has a really hard time with most PS2 games (even the newer PS2 sports games).

But that is why you keep the old PS2 just incase.

eh... outside of SSBB, I've yet to rly find a game with a ton of replay value. Far too many of the wii's games just don't meet standards... they should really bring the "Nintendo Seal of Approval" back. Mario Kart wii should be awesome though.
