Perception of us...

Honestly I haven't recieved any slack form it, and my fraternity seems to like having a house nerd. Honeslty I dont really care what people think about this being dorky. I have fun with it and the people I am friends with like it too.

Besides, when I explain how much I've made in contest and selling these things, nay sayers shut up really quick.

Now back to work on the apprentice...

It has been a while since "Yours Truly" has chimed in on any comments, so here it goes.

The Sniffer himself knows all to well of the humility and persecution that he gets for the things he likes to do. However, we live in a society where people face redicule because they are not understood by the masses.

And for that reason alone, we should all find some compassion in our hearts.

Sniff on my friends.

The Sniffer has left this forum very upset.

don't care

I find when you trully don't care what others think of you that it is then that folk want to know what you think.

Pizzaman, the artisan that crafted your pendant is Alexandra.

Be well,
Thomas

And yet going to a football game and painting your face, or your big gut, and dressing up in horribly colors that don't even match, getting drunk, and acting like an idiot every time a call goes the opposite way is considered perfectly acceptable by everyone... And they call us weird. :lol:lol::lol:

Oh my gods... you just killed me laughing myself to death...

that is just too true!!! cheers on you Mirax!!

I don't know if any of you guys and gals have read the "Asterix" comics? but at one point the gaulls call eachother over to laugh at the men from the north because all of their names end in "-if" while ofcourse all their own names end in "-ix".

also, Steve (DL44) you just said a few things that couldn 't be more true... I guess seeing that and knowing that makes you one of the most... I don't know, manliest man of them all.
I don't know if you know what I mean, I hardly know you, but the things you said say alot about what kind of person you are, I think. And I like that kind of person. :cheers

My co-workers don't make fun of me. At least two of us are star wars fans. Maybe it's cause I work late, or wear a utility belt???

Naw I bet it's cause all of us do some sort of charity work and they know 501st is mine. I used to just stare at people who would make fun until they were nervous.
I also used to tell if they wanted my rspect they could come to my dojo and step in the ring ( I would respect anyone who would knowingly step in knowing they were going to lose yet defend their beleifs)

I learned diplomacy too can be a weapon
But time moves on and people really do respect the charity work and the celebrity stories...( Maybe someday i will have a few more celeb stories)

Usually if I get any kind of "negative" reaction it's maybe just a roll of the eyes. But most of the time I get the curious folks with questions about where you look to find this kind of stuff (costume parts, etc.) or how it is done in general. I always have people coming up to me at work to see what I am working on now. Also... I'm not into martial arts nor do I even like to fight, but a lot of people are a bit intimidated by a combination of my overall size and my tattoos and piercings. I think that might help some.

I couldn't give a rats azz what other people think about my SW costuming hobbies. I started doing this with my son and put together one of the best ESB Fett's out there IMO. I've enjoyed putting smiles on peoples faces at charity events and Comic Cons. Besides, not too many people can say they have been in a commercial for LFL and Spike TV for doing something they love. Like the title of the commercial says " Don't make fun of Boba Fett".

I bet if you put anyone of those negetive goons in a Star Wars costume and had them troop with you for 1 day, I bet they would change there mind!

Ben... well said, and I have that Spike clip on my facebook!(y)

As soon as I made the front page on a local paper... friends congratulated me, on the costume.

And as long as my wife accepts me that's all that matters!

I'm lucky in that I work in game development where this sort of thing is not only accepted, but encouraged. Having said that, I am regarded as "the Star Wars guy". LOL The most important thing is that my wife, while not actively participating, thinks what I do is cool.

HH

If people are REALLY busting my stones about it, I just tell them:

1) YES, my love for the SW universe puts me into a nerdy category, I know
2) Kids light up when they see ME(fett) during a troop
3) I make more money than you do, and I can buy and sell your a**
4) Make wife is HOT, and she digs it

Most people love the Fett man. During a troop it's like being a rock star...

I find that there are lots of non-"nerdy" people that are really, really into Star Wars. I come across a lot of them, and they seems to be in their early 20s. That age group surprisingly has lots of super interested fans. They often ask me for info and sometimes even stump me (hey, Wookieepedia is everywhere). But despite my love of the genre, and the large collection and growing interest in costuming, I'm still one of the only people I know with a bonafide expandable hobby. Most of my friends don't do anything except maybe I don't know, watch TV with their girlfriends.

Does it bother me to be obsessed with Star Wars? Not by a long shot. I'll always stumble upon someone who wants to talk shop about characters, movies scenes, expanded universe or Boba Fett. My dad constantly asks me questions, but I just keep telling him to watch Episode 2 and 3.

Isnt that quote from tales from jabbas palace?

The interesting thing is I remember reading that very well. It was the first inkling of a further of the fett story, or an insight to his being.

Unfortunately it was tossed aside cannon wise. I think that anyone writing a starwars book should have to take a test.

Thats what I think.

that's pretty much what i get when people ask me about any of my tattoos.

not everyone but lots of people.

all of my tattoos are symbols.

ranging from stuff like marathon to halo to harry potter to star wars to my own personal symbol i made up and use on any of my artwork or published books

Ah, i actually dont get poked at all. Maybe people talk behind my back but to me and i explain to them geek is mainstream. How so.... uhh did you see iron man? did you watch darkknight?..do you play video games? if so you must be a giant nerd also. Geek is mainstream if they like it or not.

yes SW is geeky thing who cares. I think you have to give them more of perception then "i go to DCON and cosplay" what about "i went a walk for cancer event to support someone that has lekumia" or "donated time to breast cancer". All you have to do is ask them hey what did you do on the weekend?

And they shut the hell up pretty fast and give you some respect. Also be proud of who you are, if some calls me a geek i say "heelll yaaa"..... got a problem with that? dont let it bother you:)
