Pease Help, I Want To Buy a Full Set of Stormtrooper Armor, Any Suggestions

Hey all, I have convinced my wife to allow me to buy a complete set of Stormtrooper Armor. I am looking to you all for advice as we have some seasoned prop/replica masters here who I think may be able to help.

My questions are:

1) Are there any established members here who have quality sets for sale? I would much rather bring my business to this forum as opposed to another.

2) Does anyone have any info on the selection of armor on eBay? I have read reviews, most are positive, but I was hoping someone could vouch for quality.

The one on eBay I am looking at is $650.00 and comes with the armor and a helmet, I would like to keep my budget in that area.

Any suggestions or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I have a friend that MIGHT be willing to sell you his completed fx with pauldron, blaster, boots, undersuit..its a finished suit ready to go. I'll have to check.

Hey azheat, I've made/owned 3 sets or stormtrooper/sandtrooper armor and my two cents is get the best right off the bat. I dont know if you plan to just display or troop in it, but if you want the most accurate suit, I wouldn't buy anything off ebay. Ebay sales are generally FX (fan sculpt, very inaccurate) suits and some recasts of RT's and so on. The most accurate stormtrooper armor you can get is a set of TE armor. The dude who makes it hangs out over on MEPD.NET (Tony). The other option is TrooperMaster over in UK who makes FANTASTIC ANH/ESB armor. The next in line would be AP armor. A kit of AP armor isn't too much more than an FX kit and the quality is much better.

Only reason i say this is because I've literally owned FX RT and AP suits over the last few years. Just my 2 cents. Goodluck with it all though!

If you need any other help or contact info for these makers let me know!

:cheers

Yeah, I went there (whitearmor.net), but one of the first posts I noticed was, "Do not post, "Where can I buy a set of armor threads"". It seems they want you to research parts from different members, I am not looking to spend that much time communicating with several diffeent people, I would prefer to buy a complete set from one individual.

FYI, if I did not say so earlier, I am looking for arnor that, for the most part, will be displayed on a mannequin. I plan on wearing it once or twice a year.

Thanks.

Get some TE2 from Guns, I think that's Tony. Thin from what I understand. TrooperMaster in the UK has nice ANH stuff but it will be pricey to get it shipped. AP is decent and built strong. Kinda depends on your size too. I would say for the TE you'd want to be 5-8 to 5-11 140 to 170 lbs. Otherwise it might look funny.

I plan to get my self a TM set - super accurate and will be made of ABS (He is re-working his moulds for ABS). TE2 is good, but it's styrene - not really practical for trooping, plus there is some mould deterioration from numerour pulls than needs to be fixed.

The stuff on eBay is probably FX (post a picture or send me the link). If you want FX, I can get you in touch with someone who sells it for a great price. I am not a fan of FX - even though most in the 501st wear it, it seems to be fading away because of more accurate sets are becoming more available.

Shoot me a PM if you have any questions. Or if you have AIM we can chat on there too.

EDIT - just read your post again - for a lower price range and a great set -AP is probably the way to go. Again PM me for contact info.

DON'T BUY PRE-ASSEMBLED!!! YOU NEED TO MAKE IT TO "YOUR" SPEC. If you are on a budget and do decide to go the ebay route I recommend seller "333trip" got armor. otherwise I'd listen to Jango5204

Jango 5204 what maker would you recommend for someone 6'2"?

That's a tuffy. As long as your thin you could wear any of them. If your going to troop, the AP is good and sturdy and pretty accurate for most folks. I have a GF/AP (depending on who you talk to) and I couldn't use the shoulders, biceps, or forearms because of my size.I'm using my FX parts for those. I'm 6-00 235 lbs. I barely made it, I didnt have to shim anything, except for the FX biceps. I used the butt joint/ front strip method for the legs and fudged the front strip from 7/8" to 1 1/4" to allow for extra size. Here's a pic. You would just need to be careful with assembly. watch the space between the chest and AB plate. You could probably fudge a little on the legs by mounting a smidge lower and mounting the power packs on the leg a little lower, you can tweak it a little. My build is better for JAngo, but I really like stormtroopers.

This is mine. 6-00 235 lbs.

I think over 6 feet might be a little tall for the AP. There might be a lot of gaps between shins and thighs and your chest might show a gap. It is really hard to tell. I would say try on a friends/garrison mates or something just for size comparison. However i do think that if you are over 6 ft the AP or TE will work better for you. Especially in the thighs. Mind you the stormtroopers in the movies were skinny dudes at 5'10" and no more than 160 lbs. That is why the AP and TE/TE2 armor is the way it is. FX was the fan made alternative, more of a one size fits all kind of deal. So anything larger than that you might run into some problems: mix and matching armor, shimming and so on.

Biker scouts are a good alternative if you are interested as well. Have you considered Vader with your height?

here is a comparison of my two old sets. first FX then my recently sold AP to Destructolad!

AP fits slimmer, and is much more accurate in the helmet and armor pieces. I'm 5'10 160 lbs. you can see how awkwardly the FX fit on me and how much better the AP looked. Goodluck!

Sorry, maybe I missed it, what/who is AP? How do I get in contact with the person who sells it and what is cost like?

Feel free to send me a PM or post?

Thanks for all the input guys!

that first pic i posted of the sandtroopers is a got armor (333trip armor). yes it is assembled when you get it, but like Jango5204 shows above, it is just way off in scale and accuracy.

if you want a very accurate run down on stormtrooper armor check www.tk1536.com

What he said. runjedirun knows some folks in the "know" when it comes to TK.

I had a TE2 suit and I wouldnt say it was thin, I mean its styrene so if your going to troop in it then you need to be careful, but Its not super flimsy, damn I miss that suit :cry
