HI guys,
I just opened a paypal account so i could pay for my FP armor.... then today i check my email and i get an email saying i finished a transaction with a company called http://www.skype.com/
I already sent a dispute to paypal, i not sure if this was a phish email. but the notice did have my name and it did look legit.
It was only a few bucks but with hackers now a days..:(
Anyone have any advice... i may just cancel my pay pal.
but i don't know how, i didn't see a link anywhere to do it.
Skype is a legit company, and actually a friend of mine was one of the developers for this new technology.
How they got your info, I have no idea.
But if you find a way to use it please let us all know. You'll be able to make calls via the internet and never need a cell phone or ground line ever again!:lol
Skype and PayPal are both connected to ebay. Same parent company I think??? It is a legit ' business though. When I set up my Paypal it asked me if I wanted to install Skype at the same time (had a little check box) but I had it installed already. It is a great VoIP program if you decide to keep it.
Well i don't really want to pay for something i don't use.... and if i did happen to accidently checked it off, i didn't mean to.

About three years ago my wife called me at work and said "what in the h&ll did you buy for $600.00 with your paypal account?" I did not buy anything. My account was "verified" by having it linked to my checking account. My account somehow got hacked by somebody overseas and drained my checkbook. My account became overdrawn when my car payment auto debited. I had to file a fraud claim at my bank which took about ten days to get the funds back. Paypal was not much help at all. I no longer have a verified account and now only use credit cards to use paypal. I will never again have my checking account linked again.
If you just use paypal to buy things, that's a good idea. When I was just buying with paypal I only used a pay as you go credit card. But those of us who accept payments with it need to have a verified account.
PayPal offers encryption key generator devices for about $5 bucks I think. I got one since that big hack from overseas last summer, I wanted to be safe. Anyway, when you get the device you will need to register it's serial number with your account. So, whenever you log-on, besides your username and password you have the key code generator to enter. Otherwise, you cannot get in to access your PayPal account by just entering your password alone. It generates a new key code every 30 seconds. So hopefully it's not a false sense of security.Quote:
