Gil, having done both, I would STRONGLY recommend going into the IT field. It pays much better, even in these lean times, and there is a LOT less stress. I really feel for those in law enforcement as that was one of the most high-tension jobs I have ever worked. I enjoyed the occasional thrill (and don't fool yourself into thinking COPS is what Police work is like) but the things you see people do to themselves and each other can easily make you turn very bitter and sour...
BTW, I am currently a Systems Admin for a division of Lennox Air Conditioning. If I coul djust find a way to make this Fett stuff pay....
Well, let's see...I was a Historical Interpreter, a Special Events Manager for the Bronx Zoo, A Magician and Batman for parties (part time), and most recently sales for a hotel/conference center until I lost my job.

--EDIT-- Anyone here from southest Michigan?
I am a contractor and a business owner. I am also a reserve police officer.
Gil, you may want to try the reserve officer route first. I don't think I could do it full time. Although I do enjoy the once in a while thrill, Most of it is kind of boring and as braks buddy said it is disturbing what people do to themselves and others. But every once in while you have a good story to tell your friends.

Though one may not get rich, and that is only because you don't know how to scam OT, if you like job security, being a copper is right up your alley. After 2 years in America's finest fighting force, the United States Marines, I am now enjoying my 7th year as a copper. I currently investigate and find those who wish not to be found. Kind of perfect for this hobby.
