*Official* How to play the part of Fett while in costume...

Hey, most of you probably heard the part on the Bounty Hunter game where Jango says "As you wish..." and I thought he sounded pretty close to the guy who did Boba's voice. (I'm still hoping somebody somewhere figures out the effect the put on his voice during ADR in esb). BUt anyways, might not be a bad idea to have a slight touch of new zealand or british accent in there. And I mean slight guys, Americans tend to overdo it when they do faux-british. But yeah, I can imagine how disconcerting it would be to see an awesome costume, and then a voice that doesn't match at all.

I believe it's Additional Dialogue Recording. Yes, post production...they do it way more than you'd think, because of background noise, or possibly accents, etc. James Earl Jones, for instance, was all ADR. Antonio Banderas has to ADR all his dialogue also, making it less latin sounding. So, they just sit in a studio and record into a nice clean mic, and then someone (in this case, probably Ben Burtt) tweeks it, adds resonance, or what ever, and makes it into Darth Vader, or Boba Fett, or what ever. Or even Jabba, anyone see the old Making Of for Jedi where they had the guy speaking Jabba's lines before they did the post work on it? It is hysterical.

It was...what makes it particularly funny to me was that a friend of mine used to come up with random movie quotes, and one day he did that...it was this kinda raspy, muffled "Your Jedi mind powers...won't work on me...boy." And it just made me howl.

I assume that'll be on the dvd, when it comes out just before the Rapture. (sarcasm regarding the actual release of the dvds)

It is somewhat of a feeling of confidence when I suit up in the Fett Gear. My first outing was great! I wore my suit while pumping gas at a convenience store. It was great to see the reaction of the other people when you notice them staring at you and you give them that "cold nod" while at the pumps. Then I went to a drug store to get my wifes medicines. Everyone just seemed so respectful and when I got in line to pay...most of the patrons insisted that I went first! Hmmm,I wonder.......But it was great!
I recommend everyone to at least try that once!:D

well....unbearably hot would cover it. I was outside a lot, and...to be somewhat crass, yet honest...there were some ladies there that had some...revealing outfits, and I may have taken a little advantage of the tinted visor. Also, yes, the beer straw is a good idea, and alcohol (plus just the joy of wearing it) makes it a lot more bearable. Is five hours a long time? I would have kept going if my DD hadn't needed to leave.

Alyhall, huh? LOL! I may try that in the future. Down a few cold ones before I go hunting.

wow! i tried the whole personal space thing today, and it worked like a charm. All these people were gathered around me instead of the ESB fett, and they were all staring at me, and one of them tried to grab my belt, and i brush there arm aside and slowly took a step forward and leaned right into there face. The eniter crowd took a step back imediately!

It was sooo, cool!
Than again, this was my first time in public in armor too!.

Gotta remember not to talk like a trooper, i kept adding the clicks, etc, before things kicked off! whoops. A few one liners worked too!
thanks for all the great info! will try better next time!

Anyone ever had a person be annoyingly hostile to you while dressed as Fett? What did you do?

I was a Sandtrooper at a halloween event last year and a slightly taller, punk kid tried to get me to take my helmet off. I was staying totally in character. When I refused, he reached up and grabbed my helmet. When he did, I grabbed the skin of his gut and twisted hard while forcefully pushing him away. Still in character. The kid immediately backed off and apologized. It was great. And no one got hurt. Anyone have a Fett experience like this?

I have, I even have the original tape where they show that scene. The whole time, the guy speaks in english, but like you said, they changed it adding the Huttese language without changing much the voice tone.

I had someone grab the bottom of my helmet and try to pull it off, someone try to slap the side of my helmet when they were walking by, and more than one person touch or slap my armor in passing. For the first two, I knocked the offending arm aside and glared (for all the good it did when no one can see my face :) ). In the other instances, I try to ignore the person like they aren't any threat (keeping in character) since I probably wouldn't be able to do anything if I went after them anyway. An impotent Fett is, I think, worse than a Fett that ignores petty disturbances. So I tell myself.

It is so hard to see if people have bad intentions when I am wearing the helmet. I can't overemphasize the importance of having spotters! If I don't see it coming, I can't react, so having non-helmeted people keeping an eye out is very helpful. However, when I do see it coming, I get pretty angry. I don't want to hurt anyone, but I don't appreciate being touched and/or hit by random strangers, especially when I'm wearing my costume. If they break the rules of personal space, they shouldn't be surprised if I react by also breaking social norms and slapping their hand away. My two cents.

I play Boba Fett like he acts in ESB in cloud city, Fett walks with a good stride, no waisted motion, and never turns his head much- He doesnt have to with his helmet. He also makes quick reflex movments like when He draws his gun or has to do anything action related. He doesnt waist any time doing his job.

I also notice when He turns to walk away He tilts his head downward to the side He turns to, When he is talking to someone He looks -right- at them. The few lines He has he looks directly at the person He is addressing.

He grips his belt pouches alot, and holds his gun upright, or across his other arm. that is about it.

Some people like to wave in parades and do other such things which is all fine and dandy, I just like to be Fett while I'm in costume.

one thing is for sure if you dont speak alot while in costume, when you do, or have to it gets peoples attention emmiediatly.

Just thought I'd tell you guys; I BIG got a kick out of this. I've easily corrupted my sister into the SW fandom. Who's her favorite? I was surprised as anyone when she said 'that guy with the helmet next to Vader in ESB'. Long story short, my helmet came in (she didn't know anything about it). I sanded it down to the original colors, taped the visor in for a temporary wearing, and walked in her room around 2:30 last night. I leaned over her bed, did the best Fett impression I could without an amp and said, "Wake up- you're going for a ride". She LOST IT! I felt so bad after that- :evil

Heh, Heh, Heh.
You should have gone the Back to the Future route and used a bit of Van Halen and a walkman!!!

Thanks for bringing this back to the front page. Some of us newer guys haven't seen this one and it makes for some great information. I do have to agree about falling into character when you are in the helmet. At my first trooping event even though I was not a Boba or Jango (Custom Mando) I felt the part. I moved with the authority of someone that knew what he was doing and was able to part crowds quickly without saying a word (and yes you cannot see crap, and as my wife says, it feels like you are wearing a CAR!). I had a lot of people want to talk to me and take pictures but most would not come near me. I had one woman gesture to me by waving her hand at me until I looked at her. She didn't even want to speak to me wanted a pic. It's all about how you want to play your character but being an intimidating figure that doesn't talk a lot is always the most memorable for most of the people who are coming out to see you.

I hated taking the helmet off but it was way too hot for me to keep it on the full time. I have devised a way to build in some additional air flow into my next one but since my first bucket was a Rubies, there was no room for a fan.

You just can't help but get the look and head tilt when wearing a mando bucket, no matter who your character is.
