*Official*how much has your costume cost you besides time...

what did you buy and what did you scratchbuild yourself?

My Jango has so far cost me about $300, and I still need gauntlets, a jet pack and ammo belt. I bought the armor, vest and helmet, but I hadmade the flightsuit and prolly will make the jet pack myself as well.

So far I only have the jumpsuit, boots and vest done for Jango. Made all but the boots. So far, about $70.

about 1200 or more so far, still need to make a jet pack yet.
At least its not like my trooper costume which is at 2300 or so

Bought some paint.

Next phase is the jumpsuit and vest

Then the Helm, Jet Pack and Gauntlets

I am at $525. I have all of the stuff for my Jango Costume. I am making the armor and Jet Pack. All of the other stuff I have bought. LAter.

Approximately $1750. Someday I'll get a helmet upgrade making me cross the 2 grand mark.....

i think i passed the 2k mark.

Well i got my helmet for free, my mom bought some of the paint, i bought some of the paint, my blasters were 16 for the pair, and that adds up to about $24 or so...

mine cost me my first born.....

I was at the $1400+ mark, until this week. I just spent another $450 on upgrades. And once I add Natty's helmet..... let's just say over two grand when I'm finished, but I will be selling some of my old pieces to recoup a little bit of that.

well as I am, with stuff for two suits, I'm around $1500, but honestly I don't know how much will be out of pocket until the first one is sold in late august...

then we'll see where we're at

Well, I don't know how much my suit cost me, I scratch built everything (except the blaster....that is a converted Webely.....He He He!) When I mean everything I mean the helmet, all the armor, jet pack, boots, jumpsuit, belts, ( I used Shacks lights though and I had the missle machined) so I know I have spent a pretty penny on some things...but over 6 years of spending here and there you loose track.

Helmet (total w/upgrades): about $110
Jumpsuit: $20
Vest: $8 (cheapo turtleneck with sleeves cut off)
Armor: All Sintra, formed by me...with the paint...$40
Ammo Belt: Scratch built...about $10.
Blaster: Scratch built...$15 or so.
Boots: STILL HAVEN'T GOT HERE!! But..$62.
Gauntlets: Paid for but MB is still making them...$53.
Scalps: $10.
LEDs: $10 or so.

All told...that's about $340.

I'm at the $1000 mark, and I don't have a jet pack yet. Yikes!

Im just curious, anyone know how much it cost ILm to make the Boba and Jango costumes? It would be interesting to compare.

I've OFTEN wondered how much the original costumes cost to make, and by comparison, if anyone on this board has a suit that costs as much (if not more) than one of the originals.

So far I have:

* Armor: 3mm Sintra, approximately $15
* Gloves: $14 (made from Dunlop golf gloves - you can search for "Dunlop golf" to see a picture of them).
* Cape: $3 (1 yard of fabric, sewn myself)
* Utility belt: $5.99 (1 yard of vinyl, sewn myself) for the pouches, $3 for Velcro to hold them closed, and $9 for a 2" wide brown leather belt to put them on.
* ROTJ Blaster: $165 for kit + another ~$40 in supplies to finish it with.
* Helmet: fiberglass helmet on order from Natty!
* Boots: $120 for Cheng boots
* jumpsuit: Not yet... probably make one myself...
* vest: I might get one from Richie
* jet pack: See "vest" comments above
* miscellaneous items needed for building costume (paint, epoxy, putty, Sculpey, etc.): ~$80 (they add up and it's hard to keep a running total...)

I imagine this will probably end up costing a LOT more than I had anticipated in the beginning, but in the beginning I was planning on getting a "helmet", making some armor, and throwing a suit together. NOW I have to make one that's "PERFECT", thanks to YOU GUYS!!!

My Boba cost me around $2000 so far (I'm always updating) and I've started my Jango, but I'm only $400 into it, but I think I can finish it for $300 more (that's with out building a new stubby jet pack)

I just dropped $1200 on my new FG helmet and JP this past X-mas alone..... and I have done well over $1500 (includes helm. and JP) in upgrades in the past year alone.

I always sell my older pieces before or after I get my new ones so it helps finance it, if I didn't, I would have close to $3500....

Sad thing is..... With everything I have sold over the past tree years, I could have had my Jango finished insted of just STARTING!!! waaaaa!!

I sold 2 sets of gauntlets, a full set of body armor, knee armor, a JP, and helmet.
I feel sick now.....

I'm around $500 with plenty left. I need JP, Gauntlets, boots, other misc, and I'm gonna get a new helmet cause my one now is horibble.

I'm about $800. And I expect to spend another $1300 on the costume. Not including the Webley which will run about an additinal $1200. But my suit is mostly metal with a lot of little machined parts that I'm making so I'm adding those costs in as well. -Mark

Oo! I have to post! How many times can I say how cheaply I made mine for? I can't help it, I love not spending money. My whole original costume was made for about $125 (I made everything but the helmet). I've since re-done jet packs, bought another helmet, etc., and that puts it up to a little under $200 now. Slave Leia was like $30. Jeff's Imperial Guard stuff costs MUCH more than my Fett stuff. My armor's not accurate, but it looks good in person, is detailed, and it fits my size well. I'm retiring it, though, and plan on re-doing everything just for fun. (Yeah, I did say fun, I actually love doing this stuff and find it very calming --except for the first time I tried to do a visor...but NOW that's a VERY simple thing.) Anyway, I'm retiring it because I never liked the paint job I did on mine, but I can't bear to change it now. It's just something I've been through a lot with, like an old teddy bear that has it's eyes worn off and patches of fur missing. Yeah, I know that is an odd sentiment towards a costume prop...

Besides, I want to make two at once...and paint one bright pink and be Barbie Fett.

Somewhere around $1175.50 and counting. Waiting on some stuff and need a lot of stuff , but it's all worth it to me.

Um....THROUGH your finger? Details...I have several gashes in my left hand from exacto wounds, when I was trimming my helmet, but I just let the mofo's bleed and clot. Yes, you see, I don't need a Fett suit to be a ******.

I used to have pics of my finger. I actually sliced through the skin and muscle. I went to work about ten minutes later and I could not get it to stop bleeding. I was serving at Red Lobster at the time, so they sent me to the hospital, saying something about it being unsanitary. I did get a few weird looks when I was telling friends I cut myself making a Boba Fett costume.

Good grief, so it was like a quarter inch deep? That must have hurt like hell.

It's easier to justify if you don't add it up. So I will refrain and try not to think about it. Jango on a budget I think is going to approach the grand mark. Boy that rubies pajama outfit is looking suitable right now.

Still curious as to how the price of our suits compare to the prices of the originals...

What you see so far has run me, as far as I can guesstimate, around a hundred bucks .....maybe.

about sixteen hundred dollars with a bunch of addons, ie led display, servo control, sound effects. Not as bad as my stormtrooper costume which is about 2500 hundred. My upcoming predator outfit is going to be at least so far 1800.

My Jaster is adding up almost every day! But last I checked it was something over $660 -

Okay, when I last posted on this thread, it was for a custom Mandalore...now, with a accurate ESB Boba Fett, I'm in for some serious coin. SERIOUS!!!

Yeah, when people ask me what we've spent, I don't tell them the grand total (probably about $1200.00), I just tell them about the cheap stuff..."well, we've made a lot of the costume ourselves...the armor is sintra, which we got for $24.00, and we made the belt, which was $25.00 for the leather, and $5.00 for the glue....and the jet pack is styrofoam!" I don't mention the $100.00 gauntlets, the $250.00 helmet, etc...or the fact that even the cheap stuff required buying a dremel, bits, sandpaper, paint, needles, a wondercutter, and on, and on, and on!

Where to start?!
I think i'm up in about 600 bucks at the moment..
Maybe more if i add the money i spent on tools, paint etc..

Boba was my first "main" one to build, but I'm currently working on my third Star Wars costume, and have money tied up in two other characters from two other series/genres who are equally as ****** as Boba is. By the time I'm done with all those, I'm sure I'll easily pass the $5,000 mark...and I still have to upgrade Boba someday... Why are all by hobbies expensive?

Thats sums it up. I got a great deal/steal since Ive been dealing with 1 particular group. Helmet, All the Armor, Gauntlets , Jet Pack, ESB blaster ....$450 including shipping. Dont ask . It was unpainted and untrimmed. Helmet and jet pack assembled. But as for telling people how much mine cost and they think Im nuts. Im like you dont know what this is worth!!!!

It kills me that my "TK" (and TB and TD) friends in the 501st Legion that I troop events with THINK that I probably have "about $500" in my suit, since you can get TK armor for $450+. Little do they know (or would believe) that my costume is upwards of $2600 now, and I don't even have a jet pack yet!!! My helmet (MSH1) alone almost cost me as much as some of their entire COSTUMES did!

And THEY get snippy when we're at events and people bang on THEIR armor!

I have $350-$400 in my Jango.
I bought the Helmet,Gauntlets,Ammo Belt,Shoes,Gloves.
I made the Armor,Jet Pack,Blasters,Holsters,Jumpsuit,Belt,Vest.

Time, Time,and more Time.

So far I am into it for $800 US (which is roughly $1000 in Canadian funny money ). My acquistions to date include:

1) MLC Armor (great stuff!)
2) Halo_1's LEDs
3) Ruffkintoy's gauntlets
4) Misc parts such as Cod bolts, decals (from Ely), vest material (from BF), Jet Pack straps etc
5) Air brush and compressor

I expect to have to pay another $1200-$1500 ($1560 - $1950 CDN) by the time I am done.

I am trying to build with not having upgrades to do - I know you can never be free of the upgrade bug

Well I just started and am working on the Bucket first. So far between the helmet and supplies, I am at the $230 mark and I haven't purchased my paints yet! LOL

Mine cost around 1500 and that is with the crapy armor that I will later have to upgrade. Not to mention the movie prop space suit back pack from armageddon to make my custom back pack. But at least I know i won't get lost in a convention with all the people having siezers behind me.

jeez......i think i've spent more for adhesives,tools, clay,plaster, and miscellaneous junk than anything...although my attempts to make the helmet have cost me any shred of sanity i had left, so now spending money dosen't even bother me.....i have achieved a state of righteous financial indifference....just ask Wal-Mart and Lowe's....they'll agree....

Scratch that last total. Just recently bought a fiberglass jet pack and a Hyperdyne unit. Total is now $3000+

I just did a quick calqulation and I have got $2800 in my newest creaton so far. That dosn't include the $230 for the manniquinn it rests on now either.

ive spent about 500 on myne so far. lol an its not even sewn together yet lol.. uncle is dying with cancer, an grandmother n me havnt really had time to get workin on it yet. (ive just been paitin the plates an repaitin the helmet an such she is gonna help me with the jumpsuit an vest) hopefully we can get it done by august so i can be Jango Fett at Gen-Con lol!

OK, I've sold and upgraded so many parts since I started, do you subtract what you make on the upgrades from the overall total? So confusing...anyway...although I have no desire to acurately total everything up, A guess would be around $1200 - $1500.

I'm just starting mine, trying to scratch build as much as I can myself (ESB Fett) but had to buy leather belt & pouches. Made my flight suit, cod, girth belt, shin tools and I should have enough PVC sheet left to make my armor, so far I think I've spent about £200.

My current version...about $600 US along with paints and other things. Luckily I got my vest, boots and belt for free from a friend.
