Re: Non SW but my 'other' costume
Nice, are you going to need jungle boots, they def go with nte Nam era, I think those are what was issued in the jungle. I have some Vietnam era m 16 mag holders if you want them. They have been sitting around my house for ages. I might even have some era h suspenders to hold up your A.L.I.C.E gear too.
-
Re: Non SW but my 'other' costume
Whistle8mp - i'd certainly be interested in the mag holders. PM me with a price and we'll sort something out :)

Re: Non SW but my 'other' costume
Nice setup, Jon. But no buttpack? I cannot see it from your unphotoshopped pic. Did you ever get that flak vest? Not meaning to hijack your thread, but this is my setup, as of now. I went a bit overboard (intentionally) with the water cantines, I have two attached to the Alice, and one missing in somewhere.. There is also two quarter water pack in there, as well as the shovel with it's sheat. Some of the gear are authentic, 'Nam era, and some are not.. I Have not bought the jungle BDU's or boots, but this is a no hurry project. Also not in the photo is my airsoft car-15, and some genades.. Mine will weight a ton when finished, without the bullets, water and other stuff!!! There is a army surplus store near me where I have bought all of these, if there is something you need, let me know and I'll see if they have them.

Re: Non SW but my 'other' costume
Hi chibi
Yep the butt pack is there buddy :lol (you can just see the straps frm it in the 'shooting' phot)
I too have two canteens but have left my shovel off as that will go on my lightweight ruck once I get it.
and yep I got the flak jacket

Re: Non SW but my 'other' costume
Nice, REALLY nice. I'm taking the shovel out from my alice too, as they were not carried in the jungle, but left in the firebase when embarkin on a missions (there is only so much use for a shovel in a jungle..). How much did you pay for the flak jacket if you don't mind me asking? The nearby store asks a 140 euro's for an authentic 'Nam era jacket, which, while is tempting, still is a bit pricey.. And now that you mentioned it, I can see the straps from the butt pack...

Re: Non SW but my 'other' costume
Tim - that is one very fine costume. Is it all period ?
Chibi - my flak jacket cost a lot but you can get them for around £100, still very pricy though
-
Re: Non SW but my 'other' costume
Jon, please call me Ville if you don't mind going by first name basis.. I checked the Flak jacket, and it's 149 euro's, which is around the same price as yours.. I guess I'll have to get it while I can, as it won't be any cheaper. As far as periodical jackets go, at least.
-
Re: Non SW but my 'other' costume
Ville - 149 euros is about the going rate and they won't be getting any cheaper bro :(
if you want we can run ideas past each other as our kit comes together

Re: Non SW but my 'other' costume
love the B&W Chop job pics, you gotta age them a little more, some yellowing or blood stains would be really cool.
-
Re: Non SW but my 'other' costume
These are some very nice setups you guys... I've been really leaning towards making some type of WWII setup, do you guys have any advice? Maybe a good place to find items? Thanks!

Re: Non SW but my 'other' costume
Holy cow guys nice suits!

Re: Non SW but my 'other' costume
Great shots! Man, I have a ton of this gear myself... collected it back in college. I should put together one of these suits too.

Re: Non SW but my 'other' costume
When I was doing boot camp, they showed us Full Metal Jacket just to warm us up. Very funny. But that Kubrick movie is like a summer camp compared to reality, so if you want to join voluntarily (I was forced) - think it over THREE MORE TIMES, stupid :)
-
Re: Non SW but my 'other' costume
Amazing,my best friend's dad is into collecting period WW1,WW2,Vietnam,and Korean War military gear,he also does reenactments as well.

Re: Non SW but my 'other' costume
i want to play call of duty now! great setup!

Thanks for the advise (although a little late :lol). Been there and done it. 3 years in the British regular forces and then 15 years in the Territorial Army (and now i teach young cadets). This dressing up stuff is far more fun though :lol

You don't happen to have a spare lightweight ruck by any chance, do you?

No problem - one of the worst things I know are those who idealise and think soldiering is "fun" without even having been there. No sane guy would want to be a soldier. But as I see you come from probably the nastiest guys out there (the UK guys without teeth) you're excused in my book :cheers

Its all the sugar we have in our cups of tea :lol
All the same though, I am glad we have you guys watching our backs as well :) We all make a good team in very difficult circumstances

Re: Non SW but my 'other' costume
Nice to meet another VN historian. I started on a impression in late 07... I've got just about everything, including a real M-16A1 Colt 603.
Check it...

This was at the Ren Fair last year.

This was an earlier picture, before I got the flack jacket

And here's my rifle. I built it up from all original colt parts, except the lower is a reproduction and all the internal lower parts and BCG are new. Fires great!

Re: Non SW but my 'other' costume
TD-1536 - man those pics are sweet. How do you get on wearing your flak jacket? Do you wear it on patrols?
Lovin the M16, its the dogs nuts (mine is only blank firing)
Nice to see the Air Cav badge as well :)

Yeap, I went with 7th Air Cav, 1st battalion, circa 1968 - all my gear, rifle and even the soles on my reproduction boots match that year. I love the flack vest, got it on ebay for about $80, but I'd been watching them on and off for about a year and just got lucky. I ususally wear it every time we troop, or sometimes we'll change it up... maybe only wear a t-shirt and the vest, because as you know, it get's hot as hell.
Currently, the three guys you see are those in my 501st Garrison. I've not reached out to gather more troops for our group, but Vietnam reenacting seems to be gaining in popularity around these parts. But, I still don't know how I feel about doing that sort of thing and haven't taken any steps to get involved.

I hear what you are saying buddy. I am into it more for the living history side rather than the reenactment. I am currently with a group called the United kingdom Air Cavalry (see the link below)

Glad you only got your flak vesy for $80m, I ended up paying just over $300 (import duties from the States :cry ), but like you I love it (my flak jacket and my lid are my fav bits of kit). Oh and the M16 :lol

Hey Ronin, any updates on the Chewie? I'm subscribed to both of these threads, and would like to know if anything has been done on the Wookie?
Thanks
