NON-SW "boredom occasionally leads to creativity"
A few days ago shortly after I saw "The Dark Knight"(for the second time) I thought it would be neat if some costume company made the mask Joker wore during the bank heist in the opening scene. Low and behold someone does!
Only I wasn't too happy with the way it looks and I didn't like the fact that it's made from rubber.
So I thought myself; "Self, why don't I just make my own?"
$10 later I had myself some plaster infused bandages(just like the kind from arts and crafts in junior high).
...and here, we, go.
This is only the first 2 stages but I'm pretty happy how it looks so far.
:lol

Dude, that's looking awesome! :thumbsup I'm currently obsessed with TDK, after watching it a fourth time on Sunday. :b

Where didja happen to get your plaster infused bandages at?? I keep meaning to find some for myself but never am able to locate em...
Otherwise, good work so far! Shaping up very nicely. Any details on your actual process for molding and shaping it?

I found the bandages at my local Dick Blic art supply store. I would imagine hat most art stores would carry it in their sculpture department.
Shaping it was pretty easy really.
I have a mannequin head. So all I'm really doing is building and layering on top of a pre-existing shape.

clay set on top of the plaster.
a few more days of shaping and then I get to try my hand at mold making!

That looks good. Definately make it look angry, I noticed the plaster one looked really sad haha.

That looks awesome! Can't wait to see it finished!!!! I'm a huge fan of that mask!
Re: NON-SW "boredom occasionally leads to creativity"
that looks really cool. Shoot me a pm if you start a run. I bought one of the rubies joker masks, but was a lil dissapointed. Hopefully a TDHer can do some justice to the mask.

GASP.... NOOOOoooooooo!!!!!!:cry:cry:cry:cry
Before I left for work today I wrapped the clay in damp paper towels and newspaper only to come home and find the whole thing dried out!
As I peeled the paper back(which was mostly absorbed into the dried clay) I come to find that 90% of the mask is cracked.>:>:
I wish the people at the craft store warned me about this when I was asking about the best way to reserve it's mold-ability. (stupid cute college girls and their adorable hair twirling):b
I don't really want to have to reshape this entire thing but it might be the only answer. AAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!
oh well.
Lesson learned.
Maybe I can try to fill in the cracks when the whole thing dries.
Everybody cross your fingers!!
On the positive side, if I wanted a mask to look like "Thing"
from the Fantasic 4 I'm more than halfway there.:doh

dang that really sucks. Nothing worse than putting all that work in for nothing.
