I was perusing an indoor peddler's mall and just looking around for anything that might catch my eye when indeed something did!
I've always wanted an aluminum skinned roll-around type case, but have not wanted to pay the amount most nice ones go for. Then all of a sudden this pops into view...
It was a case for the Sherwin Williams Color Works paint matching system. A pretty good sized case about 12" deep and 20" across. The case had obviously never been used as I looked it over. I opened the front and it had these drawers inside
The only thing missing from it were the paint sample cards, but *pfeh* who needs those! It also has wheels and a telescoping handle on the back like a rolling suitcase.
And I've saved the best part for last! It was tagged at $10!!! I couldn't buy it fast enough!
I figured to use this for some of my more favorite and frequently used prop making tools. The only issue was that the trays inside, while nice, hindered that with the small compartments.
So I decided to build some new trays. Originally I was going to have adjustable dividers in each tray, but I found that to take up more room than necessary.
I built the trays and then to make it feel more like an old school tool cabinet I added the brass knobs as pulls. Each tray is also lined with non-slip tool drawer liner and seems to work fine as its not really moving around much.
The top pops up as well with storage. In the top I have my NWSL Chopper II and a ton of various size strip styrene and a varied selection of K&S metals.
Very happy with it and everything else I already had on hand so overall cost was less than $11 including sales tax!
