New to TDH!!

Good afternoon all!!

My name is Dan and I am located around Los Angeles in California. I have been stalking several costuming boards for a while, and after explaining it to my soon to be wife, I got the "OK" to build a suit. I want to get involved in the 501st as a charitable organization in the area, it really seems like a great organization to be a part of. After quite a bit of research I have settled on wanting to make a Jango for my first suit . I have always had an affinity for him and for the troopers. I'm not quite sure why, but he really intrigues me. So Jango it is!

As such, I think starting with Asok's cold cast and using body filler (bondo/kitty hair) to fill in the "Boba" marks. My other idea was to get a cast of the armor, nothing fancy, but use that to have a friend of mine shape metal plates for me. I can use sheet aluminum or thin plate steel, and go for a realism aspect to the armor, let alone durability. That's a HUGE maybe though.

Anyways, I wanted to introduce myself. I will be around reading up, and possibly PM'ing some individuals for info, techniques, and/or compliments.

Welcome to the boards! Jango is cool, nothing wrong with him. Sounds like you have already been researching and that is the right thing to do. Just use the search option and read, read, read. If you can't find an answer, ask. Good Luck and have fun!

Not sure if there are Jango templates like there are for Boba, but then you could just print out templates to form metal armor and skip the need to buy a set first.

So far I have been trying to find a cost effective base for the armor I would like to build after the wedding. I think I will start with the "trash can" armor as a template. I want to use that as a mold/base for fiberglass to give it some strength, and most likely remove the trash can portion. Then bondo the glass sections and sand smooth. Then paint and rub & buff to get the appropriate color. I am hoping by going this route that it will be light weight, yet still durable and strong.

The other option I had was to actually have a friend help by shaping sheet metal pieces and rolling the edges, or beveling, so it wasn't sharp. But given the odd contours and whatnot, I will start cheaper at first. I am proficient at glass work, and body work in general, so I don't see it being an issue.

There is an army surplus store in Hollywood near me that sells the flight suits oddly enough, so I will go in 3 weeks or so to pick one up. The vest I assume needs to be custom sewn. I will look for a template and see if I can enlist a seamstress friends help (she did my fiances wedding dress too).

ANyways, thats my thoughts so far. Maybe I didn't need to put them here, but I wanted to put them somewhere . Thanks for all the warm welcomes and PM responses to those I have been in contact with already! You're all awesome! There is some amazing talent here!
