New promotional Pre-pro Fett pic from 1981

Rapstertee over on the UKG 501st forums posted something I think you'd like to take a look at:

The pic was apparently taken in 1981 in the island of Jersey, Channel Islands, UK.
So what do you think it is?
My guess is a pre-pro promotional Fett costume, similar to that seen in the 'Making of ESB' book.

What I want to know is how it got all the way to little old Jersey, a small island of 9miles by 5?!

Wow...first time seeing a green ESB and yellow PP gauntlet together!

ha, yeah, coupled with an odd looking ESB blaster.

does he have the sidearm holster on too?

The center box greeblie detail is mounted at the rear!?

I don't know if it's me looking at it wrong but his right gaunt hose pipe that's hanging down looks like it might have one of these on the end:



Maybe the male part attached to the hose, with the female part under the sleeve to hold the pipe in place. Just a guess.

HAHA yeh it probably does they used those connectors on the JP also the cord that ran from the JP around to the chest display

What a great shot!
May have to rethink the colors I used on my PP1 paintup. The natural lighting seems to show much more of a green hue than other pics show.

This is a mad find every thing about that suit is difrent the blaster isnt the same as the ESB it seams to be a cast look at the flash tube no holes,
and redtogusa , there are some super trooper pics were you can see the gauntlet hoses going straight in to the rocket pack , instead of under the sleaves, and of cause its the Sandy touring helmet,
HA, you can see his face, and those chest peices look new to ,

Some things to consider;
That chest armor looks all new to me. That means yet another set of promo/preproduction armor we havent seen until now.
If the date is correct that means the PP1 "eyes" helmet survived past ESB and was not repainted as we have often theorized.
I am not sure that gauntlet is the ESB gaunt. The weathering looks different but its a bit blurry.
That point combined with the blaster and sidearm could suggest either unseen/unused ESB stunt parts and post ESB promotional suits actually being put together and supplemented with leftover ESB parts.

Very intriguing. I just hope that date can be confirmed without a doubt.

Do you mean by your comment the helmet being repainted completely?

No, the "Sandy" has more silver on the right front and over the right eye. It's definitely the eyes helmet withthem already airbrushed over making it actually the "Ears" helmet.

Rapstertee has confirmed that the pic was taken in the summer of '81. The boy in the picture is the person who gave him the picture and confirmed the date. Definitely 1981.

Awesome and very unique discovery! Now to find out the story.....

Yes i stand corected is it possible that the EYES helmet was turned in to the ESB , as it seams to have the "dremel" marks in the same spot ,
or do the dates not match i guess if this pic was taken in 81 id wouldnt be possible
any way i love it the green and yellow gaunts , and the yellow one doesnt seem to have the same weathering ( the gaffa tape mark) on it so it could be a new one or one of the seen ones in an earlyer rendition as the PP2 costume was apently stollen by this time the left gaunt seems diffrent ,

The EYES helmet was turned into the EARS helmet. After that, not sure what the progression might have been, if any.

Fett 4 Real is easy to confuse, especially when calling something a "Sandy" helmet.

By the time of this photo, the helmet was already the "ears" version. I have two other photos of this suit combination and both are tied to a Palitoy promotional event. you later see pieces of this suit with the Return of the Jedi hero helmet at an event with Vader

I still think they are EYES not ears , y would you put ears on it , nah ive always seen them as eyes

funny you should mention what you noticed first, the thing that jumped out at me very first was the girth belt being undone on the bottom.

I noticed the shoulder bells, not sure Ive seen those before, the helmet obviously and the undone hose, didnt notice he didnt have braids till just now

Think I'm going to do a little detective work. There's a local politician who used to own a couple cinemas on the island. He's a huge movie lover and I think he worked in the only cinema that was on the island at that time. You would think they were involved in this promotional Fett somehow. I might send him a letter and see if I can get some background info on this.

Ha, I also didn't notice the sidearm holster until someone mentioned it.

Was considering putting an ad/letter in the local paper. Dunno.

I want to resurrect this thread because this image with the Pre-Pro #1 Version 2 (or ears) helmet and the unknown Sandy armor is a one of a kind setup, but mainly because of the never seen before third Sandy armor. Is there any chance for a better scan of that image?

Well I don't own the original. The photo came from a member on the UKG forums who had got it from a friend of his who isn't on the UKG forums as far as I know. Might be a toughy.

Yeah, it's kind of hard when something is about "I am your father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate. - Dark Helmet, Spaceballs". But it would be awesome to have a better scan for the TDH Gallery.

it just shows Fett can be anything with different parts we all know added or missing, he is still Fett.

Holy ****... new user here, but ****. I feel like history is being made. Discoveries of new costumes using the Ears helmet? Pretty awesome. Prepro 1 has always been my favorite. But ****, this is cool. A green bracer paired with a pre pro yellow, the lack of wookiee braids. It's fascinating.

Wow, just realized, the gloves don't have the WW2 patches... they're definitely a different pair. Also, anybody think that pre pro bracer doesn't really look yellow enough? It's more orange than anything. Maybe not pre pro? I've only read lots about the pre pros, and so I don't know if that gauntlet could be part of a set I never saw, or perhaps a part of one of the Sandys. Also, I've just got done looking at all the chests from the galleries, it doesn't match any of them, so I guess it's a repaint probably. And sorry for all the swearing before, I was just so excited, haha.

Moved back to the states, and suddenly found I've got lots of time for Boba Fett fanboying. xD

Ah, I never noticed the pre pro #2 gaunt was shaped so differently, but compared to that ESB hero gaunt in profile it's so obvious, don't know how I missed that :P
Also, what do you mean? I would have thought SOMEBODY in the UK would have wanted a pic with Fett, are you seeing you've never seen photos of the 2nd Promo costume, or that you've never seen it with the Ears helmet?

What I want to say is that this image is in two way a good thing: the first one is that this image is a proof that the Pre-Pro #1 helmet wasn't repainted in ESB colors (it was a rumour about this) and the second good thing is about the third Sandy armor (or Sister Armor - this is how I name it) wich was an unseen armor for us, except the Palitoy one:

Thanks for the info, this is pretty conclusively the Pre Pro 1 helmet. And the third Sandy armor, finally found. So exciting. I wonder where it is now. So is this Sandy armor the same armor as the older one you posted it with? I'm just curious, because I can't tell what armor that is.

Just saw today that the image from the first post was posted on the TDH facebook page. I really like this image because it shows the Pre-Pro #1 helmet with the ESB right gauntlet, the EE-3 blaster and the side gun possibly cast for stunt (or touring) purposes and the 3rd Sandy armor, more exactly the Promo #2 armor. I used the image name (redautumn07/istockphoto_569269-glue-2.jpg) to do a search on Google and I found this:



The image belongs to the same person (rapstertee) who shared with us the image from the first post through Redtogusa. But the amazing thing with this image is that we can now see the 'ears' on the helmet and it also has better quality and colors. And for those who don't think that the right gauntlet WAS part of the ESB suit, then here is the image to prove it:



If I recall correctly, the Slave I cockpit scene was shot after the Carbon Chamber scene (the gauntlet prove this), this is why I did the image in that order, from 1979 to 1981.
