Fellow TDHers,

We have a number of new announcements to make so please read carefully.

After a recent assessment regarding ways in which we can better serve the members of TDH, we have begun what we hope to be a series of successful changes. The first change has already been implemented which was the addition of the “Dented Variants” forum to better accommodate those who wish to make Mandalorian style armor that is different than Boba or Jango.

I know many people have questioned why this has been done when TDH has always taken such a strong stance against custom mandalorians. As stated above and in previous threads, we have decided to do this in an effort to better serve our members. While custom mandalorians may not be Boba Fett, the techniques and item they use are often the same or very similar to what is seen on Boba and Jango and we do not want to continue to ostracize a segment of our membership as we have done in the past.

In that same vein, I am proud to announce that we are bringing Remo Locke and Jodo Kast 3 to moderate this new forum. Both RM and JK3 are long time TDHers as well as owners of their own custom mandalorian board. With their love for the material and experience as moderators, we are confident they will serve the Dented Variants forum well. Much like Dustin Crops Boy moderates the Zam forum, RM and JK3 will currently be moderating the variants forum exclusively, although we plan to work with them in the future with the possibility of expanding that forum in a category of its own.

Second, I want to announce that within a week or so, we will be moving the Sarlacc Pit from its current position on the board to the top of the board. We are doing this because the Sarlacc Pit is the most viewed forum and we want to make it more readily accessible to our members.

Third, effective immediately, we have incorporated the following rules into the code of conduct. If there is any question about the new rules, please do not hesitate to ask.

Threats
A member who makes any type of threat against another member, the administration or TDH as a whole will be immediately and permanently banned. This includes physical threats, legal threats or verbal threats. This policy will be enforced whether the incident happens on TDH or not.

Misrepresentation
Misrepresentation with the intent to harm any member, the administration, or TDH as a whole will result in an immediate and permanent ban. This includes but is not limited to any effort by an individual to besmirch the reputation of another member, the administration or TDH as a whole.

Fourth, I want to address a number of questions that we have been asked lately.
Q: Can I come to the admins with a question or concern without the fear of being banned?
A: Absolutely! No one has ever been or ever will be banned for asking a question or voicing a concern. We always appreciate a concern be voiced via PM or email but even a publicly voiced concern (posted respectfully) will not result in a ban. We do not want our members to be afraid of bringing concerns to us. We are human and fallible. If we have made a mistake or you feel we could do something better or you just want a explanation on why we did a certain thing, we encourage you to contact us.

Q: Is Brak’s Buddy “The Dent”?
A: No he is not. Brak’s is the founder and technically the owner of The Dented Helmet, but he is not The Dent. The reason for not publicly naming the Dent is due in a large part to what has been seen recently where individuals who believed Brak’s Buddy to be the Dent, tried to use his personal information to their advantage. Because of the sometimes unpleasant nature of the Dent’s job, the identity will remain unpublished in an effort to shield the Dent from personal attacks of this nature.

Q: Why did you ban member “X.”
A: In the past we have often banned members without stating why as we did not want to make public private issues. However, we now see that this often leads to confusion on the part of TDH’s members and often results in false rumors. In the future, any ban will be accompanied by a post in the Announcements /requests forum, with a short synopsis of why the member was banned and the length of the ban.

Q: Why was thread “X” deleted/edited?
A: As with bannings, in the past we have often edited or removed threads without giving a reason why, which has also led to confusion on the part of the members. In the future, any thread editing or removable will be accompanied with a post regarding why the edit/removal occurred.

Finally, there has been some rumors spread by naysayers that indicate TDH is on its way down and out. According to our board statistics, the opposite is in fact true. TDH is more active than it has ever been. There has been steady growth since we first opened. We have more NEW members, more NEW posts and more NEW threads than we have ever had. Each and everyone of you is to thank for this very positive trend. TDH is a success because of YOU. We hope the changes we are making here will help continue our efforts as constant improvement and will make your board experience even better. If there are any questions that weren't answered here, please PM a moderator or post in this thread.

To the members of TDH...

I would like to thank the academy...and my director....without him, this movie....

OOOOPS...

Wrong speech..

Seriously...I want to thank the Dent for giving Remo and myself the opportunity to expand the information contained in both of our forums. We look forward to working together here with the other Mods and Admins to make this new section of TDH a big success.

Craig aka Jodo Kast 3

I want to thank TDH for having us come on board as mods. As a big Mandalorian fan I'm very happy to be a part of the greatest source of info out there. As always we are here to help (and I'm also here to keep Jodo in line:D ).
Thanks,
Mike (Remo Locke)

I have a question regarding this part of the new CoC.

If member X gets into a heated discussion with member Y out side of TDH will both members be banned? I'm pretty sure that both parties will blame the other for the argument. And i'm pretty sure that both members can have people who vouch that their guy is the better one.

So how are the moderators on this board going to know where the blame lies and who deserves the ban?

If the argument arises ON the TDH atleast there is a some sort of record of who said what to who (the posts). But in the case of OFF TDH all you have is other witnessess which just brings even more confusion... *sigh* can you see what i'm getting at?

Thanks to everyone who has assisted me in my early days of costuming.
-TDH without whom my Jango costume would not exist.
Keep up the great work everyone. Looking forward to a bright future.:cheers

Congrats! (y) :D

Congrats!

I would like to personally thank the Dented Helmet and its members. Believe me, not only my custom Mandalorian and Boba Fett (ROTJ) would never have been possible. The creativity and helpfulness of the members here really have made a big difference in my costuming.

Thank you all for the past, and lets make the future even better!

Craig da Moderating Man! Thats awsome man, as soon as I saw this, I figured it was you. Congrats man.(y) You to Remo, who ever you are.:p ;)

Boba Swede, that is a very good question. We have given a lot of thought and time to on-the board vs. off-the-board activities in regard to all of the rules within the code of conduct.

The purpose of the Code of Conduct is to help ensure that our members have a safe and enjoyable time here at TDH. It also helps us weed out those who encroach on other's enjoyment. We believe that one's real life actions often parrot their online actions and because of this, we believe a member's real life actions are an indicator of his/her actions on the board. For example: A person who is a known recaster but has never recast another TDH member's prop. The recaster is still subject to being banned because we believe there is a great likelihood that given time and opportunity, the recaster will take advantage of a TDH member.

In regard to your question, it can be very difficult to make a judgment decision on a he said/she said issue. If two members were to get into a "fight" in real life we would not necessarily ban them both. We would simply have to weigh all the facts presented to us and weigh how much of a potential threat we felt the members involved were to the board. What we do not want to do is allow someone who does not/cannot control their temper to freely roam the board. We do not want our members to feel they have to walk on eggshells around any individual lest they are threatened or berated. It would come down to a judgment call on our part based on what was presented to us.

Having said that, I also want to make it clear that the administration is not big brother and does not have the time or resources to check into the private lives of its members. Most of the time, when we react to a real world incident, it is because a member has brought it to our attention. We are not actively seeking these things but do address them when they are brought to us.

Finally, you mentioned members getting into a “heated debate.” Heated debates and words said in anger are not necessarily a bannable offense. However, threats against another person are simply unacceptable behavior. Most of the membership of TDH is adults and we except the membership to act like adults. Threats involving bodily harm to another member or threats of turning over a member to LFL, etc, is not only childish but will not be tolerated.

Hopefully that has answered your question. If not, please feel free to ask more questions.

Gratz to both new mods. I'm sure you guys will do a stellar job.

As for the CoC changes, I don't see how you have any authority over what happens on other boards.

Consider the following scenario. Member A gets in a fight with Member B on another board. Words are exchanged, threats are made, etc. You guys now reserve the right to ban either of them based on this confrontation?

You say you'll weigh the facts, who provides the facts? Will uninvolved parties be allowed to present facts?

The current system is not broken so why change it now?

question:

for us who have/or are working on custom mandos, are we allowed to post backstories about our characters? I like the be creative since I'm making a custom. If so, I'm sure We'd have to post it in the sarlacc pit since It has nothing to do with armor building.

You are correct. We have no authority over what happens elsewhere in the virtual or real world, nor do we claim to. However, your actions in other places can affect your status as a member at TDH.

While I don't want to get strung out on the details, lets take the recent example of proprunner/guy raz. For those who do not know, there is a rather infamous prop enthusiast named guy raz who frequented many boards years ago and was involved in a number of questionable activities. He was later convicted of attempting to have sex with a minor. He recently came back to the prop community under an assumed identity. Guy Raz has never been a member here or done any wrong activity here. From what you have said, it sounds as if we should not preemptively keep someone like guy raz out of TDH because although he has done unscrupulous things both in the real world and in the virutal world, he has technically not done anything wrong on TDH. We disagree with this line of thinking. Your actions in real life and in other virtual venues CAN affect your membership here at TDH. The key word is "can." This by no means implies that if you get in a fight at another forum you will be banned here.

Also, we are not actually changing things. We have banned members based on off-board activity before. 502 smallblock was banned from TDH as he was an outspoken and unapologetic recaster on other boards. We do not want recasters here and banned him preemptively due to his current stance on recasting and proof of his recasting activity. We did not wait for him to take advantage of one of our members before banning him. The only change we are making is to put this into writing for all to see.

I do understand your concern, but we do not live in a bubble and your actions and reputation can affect your membership here. As stated before, this does not mean we will be scouring the net, looking for dirt on our members. That is not our purpose. But we will not ignore misdeeds done in other areas as they are an indicator of personality and future actions.

I hope this helps explain our stance but if not, feel free to ask or comment further.
