Hey all,

When I was young (mid to late 70s) there was this toy I had that allowed you to make your own wax "hotwheels" type cars. It came with colored wax tablets, a bag of wheels, molds, and the "factory" where you molded the cars. Basically, you put the wax in the top, plugged it in, put some of the wheels in one of the molds, and when the wax was hot, you poured it into the mold and once it cooled, you had a wax hotwheel sized car.

I actually faked being sick one day so I could stay home from school and made about 15 cars.

I loved the thing, but for the life of me, I can't remember the name.

Ring any bells?

Didn't grow up in the '70s, nor have I ever heard of one of these things.... but it sounds relly cool :D

Hope someone chimes in, 'cause I wanna track one down m'self :p

There is a web site called retrojunk.com, it's been a long time since I've been on there, they have old toy commercials from the 70's, 80's and 90's... I don't see how 90's is retro yet... but maybe that could help you track it down =D

Well I was born in 69', but I do not remember that toy.I have looked all over for ya, and no luck yet.
But....I found maybe the first vacuform machine.lolol...this toy is from 1963

Your wish is my command:

I found your site looking for more info. on the Armatron (just bought one on Ebay). Anyway, while looking I was reminded of the neatest toy I had as a kid- the master caster. It was so cool! The kit consisted of different colored wax pellets, little hot wheels sized wheels and axles, and the oven of course. As I can remember, you placed two axles into the bottom part of the mold, heated the wax pellet, and dumped the molten wax (which had a great smell) and then I think you pressed out the top profile of the car. After it cooled you elected the mold, and the car was ready for destruction! It's funny, the original cars were red, or yellow or blue, and after playing and mixing wax, all of the cars produced were brown! Thanks for reminding me of that great toy! Donovan

Cool!

If I can be so bold... anyone remember the transfer sheets of aliens/spacemen and the like? You had a background and placed the transfers to make your own story? Man I'd love to see them again...

Sorry for off topic :)

And the info says that hotwheels had one before this one.

Aaaahh, yes I remember this one! I was thinking "this must be early '80ies, that's when I remember it from" - was probably sold around 1980, 1981 and such as well I think. At first I associated it with PlayDoh actually, I remember they had some sort of "hairdresser" sets that could be something similar in a way.

I never had the Mastercaster though :( I was one of those kids who didn't get too many toys cause we weren't exactly stinking rich, so in one way that might be the deep psychological reason for me being here today 8)

I had those too. My favorites were Spiderman and a spaceship one; it was before Star Wars. The name was something form I think. Like Plastiform, Multiform, etc.? (y)(y)

They were Kalkitos in Europe (among others)! Woo Hoo!

Just 6 years after ya! I think some would consider us ALL dinosaurs what with our pre-cgi Star Wars fetish!
