    My OTHER hobby: Astronomy

Hi all. Was able to get my telescope out for the first time in a long while last night. Now that I have graduated college, I hope to have more free time to pursue my hobbies. I just set up in my light-polluted front yard and did some star gazing. I snapped a few photos of Saturn (and its moon, Titan) as well as a shot of Mars (and its moon, Phobos) and Vega. Astronomy is my true love so I am looking forward to getting out to some dark, remote areas for some viewing/contemplating/connecting this summer. Anyone else here into all things space?

    Hope you enjoy the photos.img_1919-jpgimg_1922-jpgimg_1931-jpgimg_1935-jpgimg_1957-jpgimg_1960-jpg

Here's a shot of my scope:

Holy telescope. Nice pics, but you could have photoshopped in a Slave 1 for good measure :-) I say keep posting space pics, I'd be interested in following along. I find it interesting.

Cool! Way back in the dark ages of the 1980s, I took an astronomy course during my
freshman year at Mizzou-Columbia. They had a 16" telescope and we got to see some
pretty cool stuff. I mainly remember seeing Jupiter and the 4 Galilean moons, Saturn, and
we once saw the Andromeda Galaxy.

16" scopes are niiice. 14" was the largest I could get and still be able to transport without assistance. There's absolutely nothing like looking back in time through a telescope at the Universe.

Man, that`s one kind of a telescope, so you`ve got another "cheap" hobby.
I can still remember when I was about 16 years old or something like that I got a telescope from my parents at Christmas. But as you can imagine mine was nothing compared to your one! Nevertheless it was quite interesting to take a look at the moon in clear nights. But somehow I never got really excited by Astronomy.

It's the bee's knees for me, lol. Coincidentally it was Star Wars that got me 'looking up' to begin with. I was at the perfect age. I used to imagine that Luke Skywalker was somewhere out in space, and I sat, looking at the stars, wondering what adventures he was having. Sounds corny now, but those were the days, man! From there, my curiosity grew so I learned as much as I could about the Universe. I have a fascination with it. Fast forward a million years and now I'm a science teacher. Go figure.
