My Han Solo in Carbonite from start to finish

NELLIS

New Hunter
Hi guys,
I thought I'd share some pics of my HIC build. It's been a year since I first began, bit most of the time the project has been collecting dust in my lounge. Recently it has picked up some pace. :)

First I had the side and front 'frame' panels CNC cut from vector files (.ai) that I made from cking's drawings.

These were made into the box. It looks square but it has the correct sloped sides and is narrower towards Han's head.

Then a 4-piece polyurethane resin casting of the Illusive Concepts HIC was fitted.

This was then made nice and the edges were routed as per the drawings.

The block was then finished, sealed and primed.

My pattern was then moulded.

I began casting out the HICs in fibreglass.

Each one has a timber frame to prevent flex and give wall hanging options.

Here is my test casting in primer.

I used Rover Storm Grey as my base coat and then masked off the edges and lightly dusted Toyota Silver Lightning to create a subtle difference between the block and the Han Solo section

I created a light patina using grate polish to bring out the details.

I really cant wait to have the $ and time to do one of these...the wifes totally down for letting me too....this is amazing how long have you been working on it?

WOW... I'm always amazed on how much work and detail goes into many of these projects. Can't say I've seen a start to finish this thurough. Well done.

Sean

Thanks guys :)
Burnsy, the one above was my test casting and is on Ebay. I am starting again with a new casting and using Philip/Glen's Volvo panels instead of my scratchbuilt panels. My current house in Elstree is too small to hang one of these. I'm moving to Australia in a year so I'll hang it there...missus don't know yet :LOL

Fett4Real, I started about a year ago, but most of that time the completed pattern was standing in the corner of the lounge collecting dust. Once I found the time (between work commitments) to make the mould, the project picked up in pace. The panels took about a week to make.
Cheers
Neil
