my excitement tonight

Well about 35 minutes ago my wife noticed one of my neighbours shed had caught on fire. Well i ran out and unravelled my hose and got to work on the fire. Whilst my garden hose was not powerful enough to put out the fire i managed to slow it down enough until the fire brigade got here. It was really scary as the fire was rapidly gaining a hold and i would imagine that the fire at its apex was at least 30ft high and burning very fiercely.

Well at least i saved my shed and my fence only got singed.

and no it wasn't me playing with my flame thrower gauntlet haha

Glad you weren't injured and the damage wasn't too bad!
Fires are scary. We had a kitchen fire a few years ago. Nothing like being woken up out of a dead sleep by your spouse screaming, "Oh God. . . Oh God!! The kitchen's on fire!"

wow, i hope you guys were ok and the damage wasn't too bad.

its funny but at the time i didn't feel any heat, even though i was only about 2 metres away from the fire. My wife who was near the house (about 20 metres away) said the heat was really bad. Now though, about 2 hours later, my face feels as though i have been out in the sun too long

the worse part was the real firemen drenched me with their hoses, i'm soaked

We do that kind of stuff when you sand in front of the hose ;).

Just messing

Think thats bad park your car in front of a hydrant when we need it. You wont have windows after that:lol:. Always so much fun running a line though someones car.

Yeah, I tell ya, that fire business is scary. I almost started my house of fire last year about this time of year. I was burning a bunch of branches, (have about 6 acres of woodland next to my house) I dunno if there was some paper in there or what, but some burning ash floated up into the air, and caught some of the tall trees on fire...about 30 ft up in the air!!!!!!!!!! These trees overhang my house. I was completely flipping out & did'n know what to do. My garden hose doesn't reach that far. You guys are gonna laugh, but in my crazyness, the only thing I could think is to get my super soaker & climb up the tree far enough to put it out. It took me a while, and every time I thought I got it out, it would start again...(dead wood) but I did manage to get it out. Afterward I collapsed on the ground completely exausted!!! I have been terribly afraid of fire ever since, so I feel your pain there Ronin!!!
D

Jango's Kid - wow, you put out a fire with a super soaker. How many times did you have to climb down and refill ? buddy you are a hero :)

My dad was chief fire officer at a refinery over here for 40 years, so he's never short of a few good (terribly long) fire stories, you did a brave thing jumping in there mate, nice one (y) and glad your ok :cheers

Thank you very much for saying so :) If i am honest though my main reason for tackling the fire was to save my property, so i guess bravery didn't come into it at, just selfishness

that's not completely true, ofcourse it was a little selfish, everyone would think like that, but it was brave to actually do it (y) you hero! hehe

I was up & donw that dang tree about 10 times!!!! I would think I got it out, then 5 minutes later it would flare up again. Then...part of it broke off!!! Its a huge tree with four invidual trunks growing up out of it. One I had to push over, (was that really dead kinda "punky" wood) When that one hit the ground, it basically exploded & I had about 5 or 6 little grass fires to put out in addition to the tree burning 30 ft up in the air!!!! I went around with a shovel to put those out. I had a similar experience to you....singed off my eyebrows, and felt like I had a really bad sunburn. I'm even scared to start up my grill after that experience!!!!

Were you in your Fett Gear when this happend? I
notice your avatar with flames in the background...Hhmm?
suspicous.......heheh!!

I think the police would have taken an unhealthy interest if i'd been dressed as Fett

Jango's Kid - I know what you mean, fire is a very scary and unpredictable force. Its so easy to become complacent with fire and then it can turn on you just like that. When ever i use my incinerator now i always have the hose near by
