Just showing off a few of the masters for the soon to be released Prepro2 gauntlets..This version won't have any hinges at all..I plan to use mini closures throughout..I'm currently working on the extendable flame unit detail. Keep you posted.

Are these gaunts raised up higher than ESB/ ROTJ? They looked that way in the prepro pics but now I think I can see how they are different from the later gaunts.

Here's something I wanted to run by you all..I'd like to Art to jump in on this one too.
While digging up reference photos for the PP2 gauntlet build-up I'm working on I noticed that the screen used esb LEFT gauntlet is in fact the PP1 gauntlet minus a few surface details..Maybe this is widely known...don't know, but it became apparent to me when I took a closer look at these 2 photos..
If in fact the PP1 gauntlet is the ESB gauntlet than it's surface detail is much smoother than previously thought..Only when the ROTJ version came about did they sharpen it up..There may be more ESB reference photos of the LEFT gauntlet after all..Find more Preproduction 1 photos!

If we already knew this... I don't remember it... but looking at them, I am trying to determine what is making you believe they are the same gauntlet? Are you saying they are physically the exact same item or that they have similar characteristics?
Here is another image of the left ESB gaunt. I am not very good with colors, but that looks like yellow under the green which would make me lean towards this being a repaint of the PP2. I believe the PP1 and PP3 are pretty well known as the same, but I don't think the PP3 gaunts (at least the left) became the ESB. For starters, the Pushbutton switch below the rocket is missing and in the pic I am posting it doesn't look like that area was filled in but like it was never there. Another possibility is simply that the ESB gaunts came from gaunts we don't know about. We have to assume there were at least 6 sets... and we haven't identified anywhere near that many...

I have believed the pre pro 1 and 3 is a VERY similar gauntlet to the ESB for a long time. They certainly have similar characteristics. I've believed the Pre Pro 1, Pre Pro 3, and ESB to be interchangeable - which are what my own ESB gaunts are based on. Wether or not the ESB is a direct repaint, it's just speculation. But I do believe the pre pro 1 and 3 are the same exact gauntlet.
The soft detail you spoke of is because the ESB gaunts were vac formed (both sides) as was the Pre Pro 1 and 3. Being that there were at least 6 sets, it's a pretty good bet that there were a few different shells - but most likely formed from the same buck. It's been agreed for sometime that the ROTJ left gauntlet was fiberglass which explains it being sharper than it's predecessors. There is evidence of the fiberglass and gel coat cracking in all of the ROTJ/SE exhibit photos. I'm sure I'll be corrected on that if anything has changed since I was last involved in discussions about it, but that's the last I remember.
Now, the pre pro that you're doing? I wish we knew what ever become of that monster. It is different in every detail from any other version. Period. And you've done a terrific job of illustrating that with your sculpt :thumbup

No disagreement here. I think you are right on it. I too believe the PP1 and PP3 are the same. I'd be happy to be proved wrong, but I don't think the ESB gaunt IS the PP1/PP3 gaunt but could easily believe it was from the same buck.
I really wish we had a better understanding of the RotJ left gaunt which I agree, appears to be fiberglass. Did they actually make new gaunts? If so, why bother? For a few VERY minor scenes? Unless the vac gaunts were ALL busted (which seems highly unlikely) I just can't fathom it.
Keep in mind that we generally find the simplest answers to be the correct ones and for whatever reason it is in our nature to create more complicated scenarios that NEVER seem to pan out...

Thanks for jump'n in...and I agree with both of you. Makes perfect sense.
To me they simply took the PP1 gauntlet or another pull of the PP1 and recycled it for the ESB...Chris, you and do it all the time
I'm just taken back how smooth the pull is..I always felt the ESB gauntlet to be clean like the Jedi version.
I fully believe the ROTJ gaunts were cast from an existing set of completed vacuformed gaunts. They certainly are unique from any other gaunts.
My main reason for thinking so is the one tell on the bottom shell which couldnt be achieved in any other way IMO.

Finally! I'm getting by with my converted ESB gaunt for my PrePro Fett, but this would help! Can't wait to see it in final production!
