Master Chief Progress

Well-Known Hunter
Just wanted to post this up here if anyone is interested in Halo. I began working on a Halo 3 style MC, and got my armor from Thorssoli over on the RPF and 405th site. I've done alot of work since, but I just recently finished painting my helmet. All thats left is to get the visor and motorcyle helmet liner installed and it's done!
The very last picture is of how it looks right now as I had to add black to a portion of the nose/snout area.

Nice work bud. It's a nice shade of green you got there, tracking down the correct looking green can be tough. Often times people go for a sandy browny green but I much prefer something similar to what you've gone with.
Are you sorted for the rest of your armour. I have some muckle parts I'm looking to get rid of to make some space. They'll be cheap too, although shipping might be pricey going from the UK to US.
Think I got a chest and back with lights fitted, a pair of rubber thighs, a pair of shins, a recon raw cast. If your interested I can PM you with some pics and prices.

All the best for the rest of your build.

Thanks for the offer, but I actually purchased a set of armor from thorssoli not too long ago

As for the helmet color, I chose to use olive drab, as I feel that it's the most accurate to the game's color. Others like to use a gold-green mix, but thats more accurate to some of the trailers, even then, I feel the "gold" was a lighting effect. The primary reason I feel OD green is accurate is that it has a distinct two tone in different lighting. For the most part, it appears a dark green, where as in certain lighting, it'll look brown. Here's one of my handplates to show you what I mean.

Excellent, Thors stuff is great and he's a good fella to deal with. I agree totally. I'm not all that keen on the gold trailer color but a lot seem to like it. I did a dark silvery green, meadow green I think it was and heavily misted the OD over the top to recreate the same two tone colouring you mentioned. All the best with your build, I will be watching closely.

Back in AZ and decided to get back on this thing, sort of. I have the visor in hand and I'm going to have to figure out what I'm gonna do.

The visor I got curtousey of Sean, and it's amazing to have a well produced and accurate visor!

Now onto it. The only thing about the visor is that it's not gonna be 100% flush if I were to install it right away. There is some gaps between it and the helmet. I've managed to get it pretty close, but still a gap. I'm considering doing what sean did to his helmets and bondo/fill the gaps and re-touch up the paint. The only thing is that I need to hold alot of preasure on the visor to get it to sit where I need it to.

So anyways, Here's me holding the visor in place. Gotta be careful thought, the mirrachrome is painted on the inside, and fingerprints can take it off the acrylic!!

I also decided to do a small detail I think looks pretty good; I went out and got some car door rubber trimming to add to the inner edge of the helmet. I didn't get the sides that slant up only because the rubber would have looked kinda "off" and wouldn't bend the way I'd like it to, but I'm happy with it

Oh yea, and here's that "liner." I mean, I can use it, but I need to add foam underneath it and foam all around it. I really was expecting to get the whole sha-bang, but eh...

Stay tuned...

Well, I just installed the visor, and I'm actually happy with how it came out. I'm not too particularly upset with the gaps either!

After I finish the helmet, I'll be getting alot better photos outside. I think it's kind of cool that parts of the mountains around post look very close to the Halo 3 levels in Africa

Started to sand down one section of the filler. I'm deathly afraid of even putting a dremel near it, so I'm having to do the sanding by hand. Aside from that, I have to be incredibly cautious of scratching the visor.

So here's how it's looking so far. I've covered the lower portions, just leaving part of the sides still exposed. I know I'm not gonna get it 100% smooth, but as the old technique, with some minor imperfections, add some weathering lol Besides, it looks better than an open gap anyday.

The only issue I'm having is that the material will "smudge" on the visor. Most of it I can rub off, but some of it is staying on there. IDK, Maybe I'll have to use something stronger to scrub with. Anyways, here's a quick peek...

The nose portion is a little larger than I like, but I'm keeping it "seperated" from the visor a bit. Just something I personally want.

I also got some pics of that flashlight too.

Kinda ticked, I was cleaning my room earlier and I moved this and accidently broke one of the solder points on the sensor. I'll fix it though, just an inconvienience...

Ok! It's finished, as far as completing the filling, sanding and re-painting. It's not perfect, but I feel it looks alot better. I re-weathered it and it helps to hide some minor flaws, but I can live with it. I painted the OD Green, then laid some silver over the parts that need to be black, then painted black over that, and did some small sanding to bring out some scratches.

Next thats all to do is get the lights installed. Just need those caps!

Got to work on the SMG today and got pretty far! Dissassembled everything, sanded all the seam lines away and polished the surface with some 0000 steel wool. I proceeded to make a few additional details, to include front and rear sight details, and small indentations that are supposed to be on the rear of the magazine.

I am using flat black and Testors gun metal Buffer. I managed to get everything painted the gun metal, but I'm gonna have to wait to do the black accents for another day. The only par that is truly finished is the barrel (weathering as well)

Polished and dissassembled

Painted (Not finished though!)

Just to show size. It's a good size prop, but fortunatly, my size in comparison fits the look
