I'm in the Brand Identity and Packaging Field, to put it quite simply, I'm a designer, so therefore, I'm mac, ALL THE WAY!!!(y)(y)

I guess for those of you that still don't fully get it, I'll I can say is, keep watching Apple's ingenious commercials! ;)

I don't know what I like best. I've been using PC since I was four years old. When you've used something for that long change is hard to get over. The computer I have now is seven years old... except the only original parts is the shell and the disk drive. The only reason I would find myself ever getting a mac is if my pc somehow explodes or if I need a laptop. So I really don't care at the moment which is better.

I don't like buying game consoles because of the fact you need like five different ones to play different games. PC rules when it comes to games.

I think Macs look pretty though. But in the end do those cool graphic menus and round white buttons really matter?

I was a pc user since I was about o say 7 or 8 years old. It was not unto I got into the 12th grade that I first even saw a mac in person hehe. After seeing what the mac in my film class coud do vs. my dell at home (I had a gateway, and others in the past as well) the mac won the war. I got my first mac this past christmas and it has not had a single problem this computer even fell (thanks dad) and still wakes like its right out of the box. The only sad thing about it is that sometimes my aim quites on me however I just need to reopen.

MAC'S VS. PC the MAC WINS FOR ME

I mean why put up with the computer crashing and the computer tech just saying it would be cheaper to just buy a new one each time your pc crashed.

im a PC guy myself

dont really like the one button style of the macs...but i definitly agree that macs are for the media type and PCs are for the gamers/everything elsers
<--gamer .... so PC gets my vote

Actually, this is ANOTHER myth that needs to go. ALL Macs come with Mice that have not one, not two, but FIVE buttons AND a scroll wheel.

Another myth I hear all the time - Macs are great for media types. While this has historically been true, and a majority of creative professionals use Macs, the fact is all Macs and PCs (aka Dell, etc.) all run the exact same hardware. Same hard drives, same RAM, same video cards and even the same processors. Start to compare feature for feature, and Apple Computers are cheaper in every respect. Because Apple is not a slave to Microsoft's OEM agreement, can undercut Dell across the board on all comparable hardware. This is fact.

The reality is, Macs are ideal for just about everyone, especially the technically inept who tend to buy the cheap, Wal Mart Commodity PC - which always ends up costing more in the long run in combined frustration, technical support and not to mention time. Technically inept people have no idea how to install all the required 3rd party software to protect their new PCs and are essentially crippled in under ten minutes after connecting to the internet. Once again, this is a statistical fact. Microsoft's own admission and solution to the deluge of Spyware, malware, trojans and other security exploits that plague Windows - is to "nuke it from orbit."

I can not express my ire enough with the general public at their complete ignorance and continued propagation of archaic myths that no longer apply to the Apple Macintosh Computer. Windows is the biggest joke ever played on the average consumer and I hope at least, over time, people will realize they don't need to put up with all the rubbish that continues to spew from Redmond Washington.

Costs.

I wanted to do some quick comparisons of Apple vs. Dell hardware. Dell is probably one of the few manufactures out there that makes hardware well enough to be on the same level of Apple quality.

(NOTE: Sure, you can build a PC cheaper by buying all the components from a computer store like Micro Center, but we're discussing the majority - the average, typical user who will never go through the hassle of building a PC from scratch. In my mind, that is the realm of the hobbiest.)

I wanted to start with Apple's flagship notebook computer, the 17" MacBook Pro. Interestingly, Dell does not even allow you to equip their comparable notebook with a processor of same speed, it's actually slower!

Apple MacBook Pro, stock config - $2,799
Dell XPS M1710, config to match Apple - $3,289
Over $490 more expensive for a PC and you still have to deal with Windows!

In the lower profit margin computers, sub-$1099, Dell can afford to loose a little and make it up in volume, but from my price comparisons, you might save roughly $75, but you still have to deal with the frustration of Windows.

Bottom line is, buy what you want to buy - it's your money. I find that most people make their decision based on a comfort factor of sticking with what they know. People, in general, do not take to change well, and when something as confounding as a computer becomes common-place, it's extremely difficult and stressful to change the paradigm on which you spent years learning. I just like to point out that there is something better.

I prefer a mac, I only say this because both of the pc's that I previously owned crashed within months, this is laughable compared to my macbook pro. (I should also add, I have owned a mac for about a year with no problems)

Being the senior PC tech here at the company I work for, I can see where Macs have improved alot over the last few years. I still think they lack severely in the hardware customization category, and that's honestly my biggest turnoff to them.

Sure, Macs do lack in the "hardware customization category" as you put it. However, this might be the reason that Mac's just work when you turn them on. I think that TD-1536 hit the nail on the head here when he said ....

I honestly can't see any practical reason to buy or use a PC with Windows. There is no software out there that specifically requires generic PC hardware with Windows running on it.

To expound on what TD-1536 said, PC's, with the vast selection of custom hardware available in generic PC building , and the endless sea of proprietary vendor hardware, like Dell, HP/Compaq, ect., it's impossible for software vendors to keep up WinOS compatibility across the board. I worked for Visoneer/Scansoft for alot of years, both in tech support, as well as software design. What a nightmare. Everytime we turn around, we fix a bug for one harware vendor, and sure as death and taxes, we'd get a call that some dynamic link library, or a virtual device driver is now conflicting with another vendor's harware or software. It was a constant round and around.

This is Apple's first commandment. Or credo, if you will. "Keep it compatible". This is why they will never openly license hardware for their computers again. They tried in the 90's, and it was a Mac Clone compatibility nightmare. Even with the move to Intel procs, they still kept their guts to themselves. It seems a little more nazi in a sense, but it has truly kept the bugs to a minimum. I think with OSX being unix based, they considered letting other vendors source their hardware, simply because the Unix backbone could handle it. But ultimately decided, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Just my 2 cents. Oh, and although I'm a certified PC platform Network Specialist by trade, I'm an avid Mac user, for 15+years. It's nice to come home and not have to fiddle around with fixing your own computer before you can use it ;)
