Looking for good laptop

OK I'm looking for a good laptop at a fair price. Not being a computer person I thought I'd turn here for help. If people could hit me up with links to laptops (not like bestbuy.com but links to the actual product) I'd appreciate it. Also tell me the ideal specs. Here's what I need....

I need a laptop that is going to be good at creating CGI images. I am majoring in computer arts/animation and I know we use the typical software so I need a laptop that can run it.
I need good graphics, good amount of memory and RAM. Basically I'm looking for maybe not THE best but something in the middle. I'd prefer to avoid a mac if I can as I am unfamiliar with them.

Any kind of help would be appreciated

whatever you do, make sure it's 4GB minimum of DDR3 RAM (it'd be best if it's a laptop that allows you to add more RAM as well later on). Also, a dual core processor with around 2.5ghz (give or take .1 or .2) would be decent (a core i7 would be ideal or the AMD equivalent). Graphics are tricky with laptops. Don't get one that relies on an "integrated" graphics card or just doesn't say if it has one outright. This means they rely on graphics from the processor, causing it to work harder than it has to and will heat up quicker and yield poor performance. As long as it has a graphics card by Radeon or nVidia (of the current generation, or a really good card of the generation before that as they tend to out perform entry level new generation most times) it should be fine.

As far as price goes; look up prices on newegg.com and amazon, find a store that price matches those online stores (like microcenter or another store like it) and buy it there so you don't have to worry about shipping fees.

Sorry if this sounds like a mouth full; but I hope this helps.

I personally recommend HP. I got a what was considered a good laptop at the time one. I've had it for three years now, still runs things great. I do heavy CG renderings with Autodesk Maya 2011, and I still am able to play current games at medium to medium high graphics at a good fps.

I also hear Asus is a good laptop as well. Don't get Alien, they overprice their products (sorry to all who have them. I'm not saying they don't perform well); you can get a laptop with the same amount of RAM, same processor and graphics card, at half to 75% of the cost; you just won't have a fancy frame.

Hope this helps!

You can also check for refurbished laptops. After 2 years after buying refurbished laptops I am completely satisfied with refurbished laptops. You can find lot of websites from where you can buy laptops. i bought it from Merkamerica and I hope you can buy refurbished laptops according to your need form here. Ask me if you have more doubts regarding refurbished laptops.
