Keeping Costs Down

So what are you guys doing to keep Fett costs down, but still make a presentable version of this outfit?

Currently I'm doing the following:

Using Spray and custom paints. With the exception of POG which I lucked into at a hobby store I've just tried to go with the suggested colors out there.

I used keyboard keys to do the studs. Luckily mine were set up so that the screws from the keyboard actually screwed directly into the keys.

I'm making my own gloves. $10 vs $85 is a fine alternative for me. They won't look as great up close but will look very similar to nicer models.

Doing my own lights and using dollhair for the wookie scalps. I also made my own cape out of the half-tent.

What are you all doing? This could be useful for new members looking for the most cost-conscious way to put an outfit together.

sounds like your saving yourself some dough my friend. I'd like to see pictures of your stuff Matt when you have it done. keep up the good work!!!

I started the cost conscious way with some stuff and but I am not satisfied with the visual end results. The armor, helmet, gauntlets, gloves were recognizably not canon after research but in layman eyes, they'll never know its not accurate. You got most of the things which I cut cost off *bay(i.e.: tent for cape), doll hair for wookie hair. Then there are Dent sellers, there always deals made....

Anyway, I am trying to sew my jumpsuit and spats- will be my first attempt. I bought my jumpsuit design from Hankock Fabric that LadySew4us recommended. Also, I am building my own custom EE-3 from PVC, a gun replica, and a rifle stock. Not quite the exact model but it's $500 less than a MR. Otherthanthat, I paid top dollar to look the best, got to represent, so nothing but the (affordably)best from here on end.

I hear that. Sold lots of stuff that I had to pay for outfits before.

I'm not one of the guys who can do the whole trashcan armor thing though. I have some FP armor and a fang helmet. Maybe one day I'll get a FPH.

It looks like I'll be able to put a fett together that looks really good for well under $1000. I've scored some incredible deals on pieces.

Yeah, making a very accurate Boba costume either ESB or ROTJ can really burn a whole in one's pocket book! i've sold quite a bit of my stuff to fund my ROTJ project and got a little help from my friends here on TDH as well. Thanks to them, my bottom line won't be as high as expected and still have a pretty decent ROTJ. Good luck with your project Jawafive, and hope to see some progress pics soon! :)

I'd updated every day if my camera wasn't screwed up at the moment. The stuff looks pretty good right now and I think everyone will like it when they see the finished product.

All you have to do is continually upgrade over the course of many years. I have an actual Excel spreadsheet that lists out everything I've ever bought, prices, and everything I've sold to get something better. Well, adding in all of the profits I've made on selling older items to finance new ones, my Fett costume literally cost me $367.02.

I tried that saving money idea for Boba...it didn't work

Went from about $2500 to $3500 in no time flat:eek:

What scares me is that I still haven't bought my ESB sidearm, and I feel the need to upgrade more...even though I'd say I am in good shape.

I have built a lot of my own stuff, painted all my stuff, built and painted for others, and traded non star wars stuff to some of the vendors to get costume parts. I have only spent money on my flight suit, vest, blaster, and boots. The money I spent of these items, was all earned by painting and building stuff for others. The rest of my costume I either built myself, or traded for
