Junk IG-88 in ESB

Active Hunter
It's been a little over three months now and I decided today was the day to introduce my baby to the original trilogy. Pointing out all the important scenes. You know, the ones with Boba Fett.:D Anyways, you see IG-88 during the bounty hunter meeting, of course. However, I also noticed another "junk" IG-88 droid in the junk room at Bespin when Chewie was looking for 3-PO. I never caught it before, maybe I'm just slow on picking this up. Anyone else ever noticed it?

somewhere in the EU there were actually 4 IG-88's. boba destroyed 3 during his persuit and capture of Han, one of them at cloud city.

To the right of the furnace...

Following EU, which these specific stories were/are classed as cannon my many authors, the 4 IG-88 series droids all carried a super intelligent AI program hell bent on taking over the galaxy.

Long story short, read the book 'Tales of the Bounty Hunters' and you will find that this particular model tried to cheat BOba Fett out of the bounty on Han Solo, so Fett fried his body in a multiple Ion Cannon ambush, then placed a very small yield thermal detonator in his chest to destroy his circuits :D

1 IG88 down, then he took down 2 others on Solo's delivery to Jabba on Tatooine, well in the atmosphere.

The last one was inserted electronically into the Death Star II's super computer, but subsequently got blown up :p

Stupid Droids... must have been a loose wire somewhere (thinks to Ep 3 Obi Wan/Anakin Quote)

I knew the part about the encounter with Boba. So it did make sense why it was there. I just never noticed it before. I've never really looked though. It just kind of jumped out and said "Hey, look at me!" this time.

It makes sense now why it's in there (if you like the EU stuff), but why would Lucas (or whoever's job it was) put a character seen earlier in a junk heap. Did they just need somemore "junk" to fill up the scene?

That is IG-88 B, the same one that you see on board of the the Executor. When trying to grap Han, Boba kinda damaged him. In one of the many novels, when IG 88 A uploads himself into the second Death Star, it says he used to close doors on Palpatine and screw with him

I love IG-88. such a cool look and stories to go with him...oops, them. anyway, boba only killed 2 IG-88s. One on CC, and one above Tatooine. The other two were by way of boom boom to DSII, and the other was destroyed by Dash Rendar in Shadows of the Empire. hope that helps (y)
