Joker's knife

OK, I'm a little behind the curve, but I finally saw Dark Knight. Great film! Best Batman flick yet! (y)(y)(y)

I want to make an Out the Front, (OTF) knife like the Joker's out of plastic, as a prop, not a functioning weapon. I've searched the net for a while and found virtually nothing. Does anyone have any suggestions, links to diagrams or any info as to how the mechanism works?

I know it's a shot in the dark, but there is SO much experience with films and prop building on this forum, I thought I'd ask. :)

I think the knife you are talking about is the Dalton Cupid Extractor.

Here are some pics:

I remember reading that it was a "1600 Extractor". The one Brewza posted has serrated edges near the bottom of the knife, but Joker's did not have this detail.

If you get any information about making one, I'd love to hear more. I'd like to have this style of knife for my costume, but I don't want to use a real knife in public. I'm thinking maybe getting the knife, then mould the blade and make a resin version to install.

They had a large thread about this on The RPF a while back, if I remember correctly... You could probably search it out. The real knife, or one 99.999% like it can be purchased for $15 or so from military surplus stores online, and some stores were linked in the RPF thread...

Alrighty, I found something on the instructables website about making a switchblade out of popsicle sticks. The basic principles could be used for making a similar blade from plastic or resin.
Here's the link:

I'm trying to figure out how to make a working Out the Front blade prop to go on a gauntlet. A tongue depressor would be fine for the blade. :) Paint it silver, weather it, etc. and there you go. Realistic looking, but essentially harmless.

I could have sworn Joker had two different knives. One that was serrated at the bottom and looked the blade was only on one side, and the other was double sided but not serrated. (POSSIBLE SPOILERS) The first one he uses when talking to that mobster who put a hit on him, the second one when talking to Rachel.

There is a knife shop near me that sells a blade almost identical to the one BREWZA posted for about 15 bucks. It springs out and everything. I also know a guy who dulls blades for stage use. Put the two together and...

If you're interested I might be able to pick one up for you and mail it already dulled.
