    The Joe Johnston Portfolio

Don't know if this has been posted yet in any of the forums, but I just received notification from ACME Archives that a specialy signed Joe Johnston Boba Fett portfolio is now available. I know there are at least a couple of images I've never seen before, but at $495, the set is out of my price range.

    Here's the info:

The Boba Fett Artist Portfolio consists of 11 images (12 x 17) taken from the original crew gift drawn by Joe Johnston for The Empire Strikes Back. The pieces were then given to select members of the pre-production staff in March of 1978.

These giclee prints are presented in a holographic textured portfolio (15 x 18.5) with a brushed metal titanium alloy Mandalorian symbol on the cover. Each portfolio comes with a "Story-of Certificate" hand-signed by Joe Johnston (Star Wars effects Illustrator, and acclaimed film director).
    Limited to only 75 pieces

It's funny that you mention it:
I was going through my old INSIDERS this week and saw an article about a Joe Johnston Portfolio from '79 or '80. Sansweet and Gus Lopez both mentioned that it was one of the first ESB items available. Do you think they made a mistake and mean the ILM in-house set?

I've put the books back already or I 'd hunt the article down. I think it was in one of the earlier (#25-#50?) Bounty hunter, ESB anniversary, or Fett-centered issues, though.

There was a Ralph McQuarrie portfolio set of 24 color print / paintings. Could that be what you're thinking of?

I'm pretty sure they showed the same drawing that you show so that would mean it was Joe's stuff.
They said it was one of the first ESB availiable products but I will get out and go through the books
    again tomorrow and double check.

    I found some larger images here . . .

Again, some of these pictures are variations on design work I've seen before, but some I've not seen before. The above are only 8 of the 11 that come in the set.

I just got around to picking up Issue 115, which includes a nice spread of BF collectibles starting on pg. 38. Article was written by Lopez and the first item he talks about is "ONe of the first Boba Fett items" being the early Joe J. lithos. And apparently the set out now is a collection of "reduced size" copies. That really bites. In addition to the hefty price tag of the current set, it's also shrunken down a bit more.

    Wouldn't you know it.
I had gone through all my INSIDERS in the last couple weeks and must have lost track of where I saw it.
I knew I did see something about it, though.

    Re: The Joe Johnston Portfolio

When I first joined the 501st in 2004 I was living in Ohio at the time and one of my first trooping events was a small toy and gaming convention. And there was a gentlemen there who had all these exact same Boba Fett renderings in this raw large sketch format, I was completely in awe and blown away to see these images I had never seen before in such an original state, surreal almost! He said that he had a job interview with Lucas in the early 80's and because Lucas had been so impressed with his interview, he allowed him access to these images, NOW, wether that's exactly how it went down, I'm not sure, but they were there in front of my eye's none the less and I didn't really care!

So with that said, it's pretty awesome to see these resurface and offered to the public almost 6 years latter, but at this point am I surprised, NO! If Lucas can put a price tag on it, he's got his pudgy little hand out to take the money! $495? Yeah Right!
