Iron Man Mk III - Aluminum

Deathbird

New Hunter
Well, may as well kick this off officially :cheers

As a bit of an intro, I was formerly a semi-professional historic Armoursmith. I decided to marry my love of technology with my armouring... and so I am making this baby in semi-heavy metal fashion for
the first major Comic-Con in Atlantic Canada, being held in Halifax, Nova Scotia Hallowe'en weekend of 2010.
So at least I have a realistic timeline right off the bat. (And my hotel booked, so I have to finish it now :D)

Most all of the components have been acquired and the hammers are flying as time permits. I'll upload some pictures this weekend of my initial progress right through to completion.

Wish me luck

Can't upload images from my PC... only link image urls.
What site do you all use to host your images?

Nevermind... using imageshack...

Note, the white on the surface is the protective film. Not removing it until ready for paint to keep surfaces as pristine as possible.

In case anyone is geeky enough to care, the material is 16 gauge Aircraft grade aluminium and the fasteners are #6 mil-spec socket button head bolts.

I don't envy the amount of articulation your going to have to do for this, but so far it's looking great!

There is a fair amount, yes, but the main thing that I am still in R&D for is the upper thigh insertions into the girdle section...
The major focus of the R&D will be the engineering of a "quick out" for any lavatory-based engagements :rolleyes

I don't suppose that anyone has any related ideas on that?

Started work on the gorget tonight... borrowing heavily from the Extremis Armour stylings in order to make it more towards a more functional armour design.

Please disregard the masking tape as it was a temporary measure to hold things together long enough for me to check the overall fit of the components :)

Nice gorget! Did you draw up the pattern for it yourself or did you find it somewhere?
Ive been looking for a good pattern as I need to make a leather one for a costume I'm working on.
Can't wait to see more of your progress.
