I've recently enrolled with Embry-Riddle University to try to finish my Bachelor degree while I'm still on active duty in the Air Force. The education counselor went through the degree program with me and we figured out which classes I would need.
She mentioned that several of the more general subjects I needed were available as either CLEP or DSST tests. (The DSSTs are what used to be known as DANTES tests.)
I knew I would be able to pass a couple of those, so I signed up to take tests for "Drug and Alcohol Abuse" (for credit in the Humanities area) and "English Composition with Essay" (for English credit. . . obviously )
I got my results back recently and passed both of them by a pretty good margin! So basically I got 6 semester hours of credit in only a couple of hours of testing.
I'm reviewing a little bit for my next DSST test for "Introduction to Computers." I should pass that one with no problem, too.
The best part. . . CLEP/DSST are free for active duty military!! Woot!
