How do you all travel with your costumes?

This may not be the right place for this thread but I didn't see a general fett place to put it.

So the question is, you have your glorious costume which is potentially fragile and you are traveling to a comic convention or whatever gathering, how do you pack it? Do you fit everything in cardboard boxes?

The helmet is the thing I haven't figured how to put in a box without being terribly worried it will break.

(mods please don't hesitate to move this to the proper place)

I just bought this well-nigh indestructible storage locker from Walmart (use Site-to-Store to avoid shipping) for $30 that can be shipped via USPS or UPS:

I packed some "Seat cushion" foam from Walmart (sewing section) on the bottom and around the outside and use bubble wrap between parts. It fits everything (including the disassembled :jet pack) except my helmet, boots, and some smaller parts that I am putting inside the helmet. I plan on shipping the locker to Texas this week. My helmet goes in a small wheeled carry on with half my clothes and the rest in a backpack that both stay with me.

That's the plan, anyway. (y)

I have exactly the same tote as Chris. One suggestion is to buy a TSA approved padlock for the tote....otherwise they WILL cut it off.

I'm not sure how he fit his :jet pack in there :confused, but I'm sure it can be done!

I'm shipping it versus checking it, so no need to bother with TSA. I'm too afraid they'll be tempted to open it and start rifling through. The way I pack it is VERY precise and based on several attempts and they'd never get everything back in there without screwing it up and making it impossible to close and/or breaking something.

I have a MOW jet pack. With the foam on the bottom, back wall, and the left side, I can sit the jet pack with the jet pack bottom against the left wall and angle it towards the back and it fits. You can kinda see that here:

Underneath it is the Sidewinder blaster in two pieces and the rocket. The jumpsuit and cape go on top and serve to pad the top. (y)

Not sure if other jet packs would fit, but Christian's does.

I have this helmet case (perfect for carry-on luggage) from JC Whitney:

And this Stanley job chest for most everthing else (found at Lowe's):

batninja, do you know if that chest is on their online store? Also do you have to lay your jet pack at an angle to get it to fit as mentioned for the walmart container?

I also use the Stanley rolling tool chest.... I've got 6 of them in my garage for assorted things...

Hey all, long time lurker, first time poster.
Ok, well I don't have a Fett yet (I'm in the process of working one out after reading on who to go to from here!) but I do have a Vader.

What I do is I use that big WalMart storage container Mad has for the bucket only. I padded the entire thing with foam from WalMart, wrap both the face and the dome in very soft, lint free cloth (kind of a microfiber), and I have foam separating the two within that big case. For the capes, gloves and leather outfit, I have a small suitcase, and for the chest armor, shinguards and chestbox, I just use the exact box it all was shipped to me in, wrapped in an insane amount of bubblewrap, cloth and packing peanuts.

The bucket is the only thing I'm super paranoid about though. But it seems that with Fett, it's alot easier to pack up and travel with from looking at the pics you guys posted. =)

Considering how much money has gone into my Boba, and how fragile Fibreglass can be, I decided to go one up.. Really, for an investment point of view, if someone were to have armour worth say $4000, and bought a $30 case to protect it all, it seems that it wont protect whats inside well and doesnt reflect the investment...

Anyways, I went for a Hardigg Storm case, following some of the members of the board, like Fetthunter and Halo_1 (Halo_1 has a Pelican Case though), and bit the bullet. Picked up the one i was after for a reasonable price, and with the 'pick and pluck' foam, my entire boba costume fits in it perfectly :D

But the question is, does the price/quality of the case reflect the armour within... we all know that things happen (especially with me lol) and that a drop or a sharp jolt can even damage gear, I figure ive got a set of BM armour.. I might as well go with the best case there is...

But ya get my drift :D

My brother has one of those juge tupperware looking bins for his kit. But since he usually transports it himself he isn't all that concerned with the case reflecting the armor.

I do like the walmart case idea though. May have to look into that for my Boba kit.

Recently I did a search for the stanley tool box shown above. I went to most stores EXCEPT home depot, I bought the container I found at Lowes, then the next day I found the mother load.

This wasn't awesome because I had bought a cheap twin sized foam topper for a bed and had cut it and hot glued it around the entire inside of the first stanley chest. It is immaculate I might add. The inside is beautifully upholstered...

Today is the photoshoot for my costume so I am going to post a thread on how I pack my suit and another showing off the work I have completed.

Evidently there are two sized Stanley trunks. The first I found was somewhere around 24 gallons and has yellow wheels. The NEW and AMAZING one is 50 gallons and has grey wheels.

THis huge box fits beautifully in the back of my element and EVERY piece of my costume fits inside.

One perk to owning a Master Replica helmet is that it comes with a perfect styrofoam box that holds the helmet safe and secure. As said above I will post pics of how all this is packed in.

This is a excellent thread to start up Jon.
I have 2 bags for my snowtrooper and Jango Fett stuff to date. But those cases you have shown are perfect in terms of durabilty and keeping things safe.
