Ive been playing around with my new blu ray player trying to get it hooked up to my reciever but I am having no luck. I have searched the web and they all say all I should have to do is hook the HDMI cable from the blu ray player into an input slot on the reciever but that is not working. PLEASE HELP!!!!

    2. HDMI from Cable box to HDMI input on Samsung TV
    3. AV cable from Cable box to AV input on Denon reciever(only way it works)
    4. Hi def conponent cables from XBOX 360 to input on Denon reciever
    5. HDMI from Sony Blu Ray to input on Denon reciever.

Everything works except for the last thing (no. 5) Please help

    Thanks,

Mine is set up where the HDMI goes directly into my Hi-Def TV for the image source, then the sound source from the Blu-ray (Playstation III) goes directly to my receiver via a THX certified Toslink digital fiber optic cable. Do you have a fiber optic port on the backside of the Denon?

When you say it is not working what are you referring to? No sound, no picture. PM me or post the following info here. Samsung TV model#, Denon Receiver model#, and BluRay model#. I can guide you in from there.

And when you say A/V Cable you are reffering to what? An RG6 coaxial cable?

I have a Denon receiver and it might just be that you haven't correctly set the sources in the various submenus, as well. But I'll let xfettx take first crack, since -- while I did set up my receiver, HDTV, Xbox360, PS3, and Oppo DVD player myself -- I am much more the hobbyist.

I found that Denon receivers are really picky to set up. I was not fond of mine, despite their great reputation. When my Denon died, I picked up a relatively cheap Yamaha and like it much better, strange as that may be.

I replaced an $1100 unit with a $400 one and think of it as an upgrade

I used to have a Denon too and I had to set the various sources with the kind of output I wanted them to stream out. It is best to refer to your users manual regarding source output and Hi Def playing since it can be a bit confusing.

Since then I got myself a nice Yamaha receiver, my play station is connected through a HDMI out to the receivers in and an HDMI cable from the out of the receiver to the in of my plasma. By the way, only way for this receiver to use the HDMI for sound and video is by turning it on, the plasma will not produce any sound or picture if the receiver is off. Not sure if with the Denon you can receive picture from an HDMI source while it is off.

check your cable box settings. make sure that you dont have 480i selected at all. I'm not sure what your provider is out there.

Denon's aren't the easiest to get used to. Denon's are known for their video switching and decent sound. Yamaha's are known for being easy to use.

if you like using your ipod with your home theater look into Apple TV. Streams all your hd videos (movies, music, tv shows), music and photos from your itunes on your computer to your home theater.

Heh.. so does my Yamaha, which was really funny.

I'm not a huge audio geek... just a moderate one. My speakers are almost 10 years old, but the receiver has been switched around a few times as the world has moved through composite, component, hdmi, optical, etc...

I only just learned today that the PS3 only upscales with HDMI. I'm still using component, so I need to switch that. But it's ok... the receiver has HDMI, so it's just a matter of getting a cable.
