Hello everyone

First off I would like to say hello to everybody and say that this site has become the "go to" site for people like myself that are beginning the long (and expensive) journey of creating a BF suit. While I am a newbie, I also know what I am getting into, so I am expecting the project to take a long time, but it will be worth the wait.

Welcome.
Good to know your a realist about the cost. That's the first real hurdle in my opinion, when it comes to building a good Fett.
Having fun doing it is up there also:lol:

Welcome aboard. It definitely takes time and money for a good Fett. But do your research so you only have to buy once.good luck and have fun!

Have fun mate welcome to the addiction i'm gunna start a club called FA(fetts anonymous) for those struggling with costume addiction

Josh I started a club called "Club Fett"...it was short lived we got shut down for not having a liquor license...as well as illegal bounty hunter permits

RUN! If you care about yourself at all run away now as fast as you can! Fett will take your time, your money, your sanity, and may well take your very soul! Save yourself it's too late for us!

I can tell that I will need to sign up now, and I don't even have a suit yet! I read posts at kleast 3 times a day so I guess I have the Fett virus pretty good. I want to get a bucket and start now but I just joined the 501st cadet academy for my reigon and want to get some feedback from my advisor fist. Does anyone have an idea of how long before I can start browsing in the Cargo Hold? I know I just joined TDH but I my addiction is taking hold pretty badly and I want to see if I can get started soon.
Thanks in advance for all of the help I am sure everyone is going to give me.

If I remember it right, it should say at the top of the page how long you have to wait for cargo access (2-4 weeks I really can't remember, 2 I think).
Just remember a Fett costume needs to fit you and be of decent quality for 501st approval. Check with your advisor for requirements.
There are many how-to threads for scratch building your own costume and those can be a great way to start, not to mention fun.
As I stated earlier that's the most important part of any feet build. 

It's taken me two years to complete my custom mando and they are much easier to make, for the mere fact that your not constantly searching for found parts or greebles to make it movie quality. RULE NUMBER 1 have massive amounts of patience...

Yeah good luck. You should do it for yourself and not just for the 501st. Remember its YOUR costume not anyone elses and Fettwho is right have fun!

The 501st would just be a bonus. I am ready to get started, but am not sure how. I would like to get a bucket, but not sure how to get in contact with some of the builders (FP, BM). I sent a few emails, but no response yet. I know that they are busy and Daz has a bum foot so i understand that a noob like me does not rate very high on their "to do" list. And I am not going to pay what some people want for them on eBay. Looks like my build is going to take longer than I thought since I can't even get started.

Yes your right they are very busy people and were you rank in the greater scheme of things has nothing to do with no response, most likely super busy and to many emails and PM's to get through.
Your greatest friend is patients when doing a build, and with both these guy's you will need it ( not because they take ages because they are slack, but because there's lots to do and quality work takes a while ) and any wait you have with them will be worth it :D trust me, I have seen both their work and :love is all I will say:lol:
and you never know something may pop up on the cargo hold?
meanwhile you could do what joshsurf did and get a hasbro helmet and have a play. There's nothing more satisfying than your own work:D

You said the key word . . . . "Journey" . . . . It can be somewhat of a lonely journey too, however, thanks to the good people here on this forum . . . . you are in good hands with the wealth of knowledge from The Dented Helmet Forum Boards.

The great thing about this forum . . . was that I came close to making some expensive mistakes . . . But thanks to the brave folks here, they have taken that route and made the mistakes before us; and in return share their wisdom and advice on this message board.

Welcome aboard!

Thanks for the kind words. I have to completely agree that the wealth of knowledge on this site is priceless. There are a few makers that I was thinking of buying from but thanks to this site, and the unfortunate experience of others, I was steered clear of them. As of now I can only read Cargo Hold posts, so once I can actually reply to posts there, maybe I can get lucky and find some parts.

I have two bits of advice that if followed will greatly reduce stress and frustration.

1. Stay away from StarFortress Production
2. Stay away from Ebay.

Stick to the vendors talked/mentioned here or the cargo hold and you'll do well.

Hey Jc27 take a good look through the tutorials and templates , all my work has been based from templates on here . Take a look at my thread in fett armour . I came into this with little experience and surprised myself and the guys on here are great for advice . Believe and live your dream !! ;)
