Read them when I was in Elementary/ Middle School: Lost interest in the books after Order of the Phoenix. The movies have been decent-ish but they're still something you kinda have to see if you were ever into HP. Overall, it's ok
I'll see it because I've seen the rest. I'm not even really into HP, was just forced to sit through it during deployment and want to finish the story. Never understood why they had to wave sticks and speak latin to do magic.
My wife is huge fan and has read the last book, again, in preparation. Personally I couldn't care less. I read the first book when it came out and didn't like it, and she's made me watch the movies and I don't like those either.
I think there was some deal with the devil involved as she was homeless then started writing and publishing and book that's become so big it's revived broom making in England and has been on currency (sarcasm).
I'm just going to be glad when it's over and Hollywood starts making other cr*p no one cares about.
What about Watchmen, or Inception? Both of those were awesome and got almost no recognition.
I am excited about Batman 3 though. Maybe we can turn it into a thread about that.

I'm an absurdly huge HP fan (just ask Fett 4 Real XD). My mother essentially forced me to watch the first film when I was going through an incredibly difficult time in my life where I had become dangerousely depressed.... I finally gave in. It took me to a place where I could relax, get lost in the movie, and for a brief moment, not feel like life was hopeless. From that night on, it stayed in my VHS (yes, I said VHS lol). It was the last thing I watched before I went to bed and the first thing I watched in the mornin for almost 6 months.
The fact that I am still among the living is proof that magic is alive and well and living in the HP books and movies... because only some kind of serious magic could have pulled me through.
Now I feel like a jerk... :P Glad your still around brother.Originally Posted by dsonik1

I even just got back from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal.![]()
THAT WAS NUTS huh? So many people there after CV we went too the people were rude and just so crowded in that whole area at islands of adventure....My wife loves the books I havent read em but will sooner or later...I like the movies well enough I hear its going to be a two part movie because theres so much to tell
I really like the Harry Potter movies. At first I was skeptical. I didn't see any of them until Prisoner of Azkaban was on DVD. I thought they were stupid. But I managed to catch Sorcerer's Stone on TV and then my wife (well, GF at the time) made me watch all of them. After that we saw Goblet of Fire in the theater and I've been hooked. We went to Harry Potter world while we were at CV and it was crazy. Cool park but way too crowded and disorganized.
I don't read the books though...mainly because I just don't read for fun.
the line for olivanders was over an hour long
I know it was for me too. ): But it was worth it!
kthur, no need, brother. Its not for everybody.
AA, yep, read em all. Such a shame the series is over. The books blew the movies out of the water.![]()
I'm a big Harry Potter fan. Just finished my Bellatrix costume for Dragon Con.
I'm also pretty sure I was more excited than any child at the WWoHP when we went the day before CV.![]()
I know I know. Like I said, my wife is huge fan. She talks all the time about Harry Potter World, the new movies and what's going to happen next. I'm just wearing thin from the whole thing. I liken it to all those people that got wrapped up in Twilight, got crazy about the whole thing, and get sad that aren't wizards or vampires.Originally Posted by Armored Artichoke

Hmmmm... good question.
Harry Potter books are really amazing! I agree with Stormtrooperguy it got kids to read books again. We pretty much watch the movies when ever they pop up on cable, (much like another movie I rather enjoy)or they get watched regularly on blu-ray.
All 3 of my kids have read all the books including myself. We are all avid readers.
The movies lack alot of story the books have...cause that never happens.
It will be interesting to see how this last movie goes with sooooo much to uncover!! Hence the two parter??? I'm sure of it.
Which will suck having to wait for also, I can't wait!!!!!! I'm very very excited to see it, we kinda grew up with these kids its pretty amazing.
It has the the same feeling that Star Wars gave me as a kid.... anticipation! And sad to see it end.![]()

Was a good series of books, movies like most being converted from books don't take everything thats in the books and well thats a given. They've done a good job, keeping alot of the same actors there for the movies. The only thing that bugs me is the whole we have to turn the last book into 2 movies. Yes fair enough there is alot to explain but correct me if im wrong. Wasnt the 4th and 5th books bigger than the last?
I'm just playing around. I'm really sorry if I offended anyone. It was just a joke.Originally Posted by Armored Artichoke
Besides I'm tapped for Harry Potter names anyway. My wife stopped telling them to me.
Again I'm sorry if I upset anyone.
I wanted to read these books when they started coming out around '97 (not sure on the year). Believe it or not I had the fore thought of holding off on the prospect that I would have son one day and we could enjoy them together. For that reason I've never seen the movies or read the books.... Until about a month ago, my 6 year old son expressed interest in HP and we rushed down to borders books and bought the entire series.
The deal we have is that after we read each book we'll watch the movie that goes with it and pig out on popcorn and goodies. We're both really exicted and I'm glad I held off 13 years because we're reading book one right now and both loving it. I'm glad that my son and I can enjoy something together for the first time. I didn't want it to be like Star Wars or Indiana Jones where I've seen it a million times but get to relive the experience watching him watch it. I wanted us to experience it together.
The story is just as fun as I thought it would be and totally worth the wait.

Never understood the Harry Potter thing. My kids hated the books and the movies and never got into him. I liked the Chronicles of Narnia better.
I truly love the books. The movies are okay, but somewhat...I don't knownot-the-think-I-wanted-it-to-be...
I really like the Prisoner of Azkaban movie. This one really has set the tone. Too bad not all the movies are that good.
And I even met my first girlfriend trough the Harry Potter fandom...shame we've only been together for 15, years

I am a pretty big Hp fan. I have read all of the books, some twice. The movies are decent representations of the books, but most if not all of them, could be much much better. I am not like into it to where I would collect props and costumes from the movies, but for me and my family ( who all love it) the movies and especially the books hold their own brand of magic, sort of like that feeling you get, or maybe not, when you visit a Disney park or something like that. The pages of those books really have something special and unique inside of them that can not be exactly duplicated. It si really impressive storytelling.
Saw a Sirius Black "Have you seen this wizard" 3d poster walking around
Sorry to semi-necro this thread, but I just found out about this and had to share. It's a fan made production called a Very Harry Potter Musical. Just finished watching it and it was amazing. Had me laughing the whole way through. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmwM_...x=1&feature=BF
potter's awesome i read all of the books, the only thing i hated about the 6th movie is that they didnt freeze harry when they killed dumbledore and instead harry just stood there...thats BS
CAUTION SPOILERS DO NOT READ BEYOND THIS POINT!!!!!!!!!! CAUTION SPOILERS DO NOT READ BEYOND THIS POINT!!!!!!!!!! CAUTION SPOILERS DO NOT READ BEYOND THIS POINT!!!!!!!!!!
Ok sry about that. Another thing I hated in the 6th movie was that they totally ruined snapes not being bad!!! like srsly that was HUGE!!!!!!
