Greatest Football Player of all Time

In my opinion, the greatest footbal player of all time was #34 Walter Payton. I think he was the prototype football player who did everything well. Not only is he unquestionably one of the best runners of all time, he could block better than any runningback I've ever seen. He also had that toughness that allowed him to navagate his entire career without major injury, starting all but (I think) one game.

But the main thing was his incredible work ethic, character, and soft spoken humble personality that has so endeared me to him. Now one of my prize posessions is a Walter Payton autograghed mini-helmet which is proudly displayed on top of my TV.

Who would you pick as the greatest ever?

I thought of Walter Payton before I opened the thread. Montana and Rice are very good choices as well. Although I don't like the fact that he was juiced, was there a more dominating defensive player than LT?

Its gotta be Sir Bobby Charlton, Now thats what you call a football player! (y)

What you call Football in America is actually Rugby but with protective armour !!!

Ladies and gentlemen, I implore you. Have you forgotten about the one, the only......."The Ultimate Weapon" himself??

Randall Cunningham.....

"OK.....Mike Ditka vs. the entire NFL?"

"Ditka."
"Ditka."
"Definatetly Ditka".

Oh, how I miss the old SNL days.

If we count the CFL, we might as well throw in Tecmo Super Bowl. Bo Jackson baby, and it's not even close!

FYI...the first American style football game was played in Toronto in 1861. And Damon Allen holds the all time professional football record for passing yards 72 000+, surpassing another great former CFLer Warren Moon. I have more respect for some one who plays for the love of the game, not to become a Millionaire.

Jim Brown-When he played he was a man amongst boys. Others may have surpased his numbers, but few if any have surpased his game dominating talent.

James Nathaniel Brown. Browns' No. 1 draft pick, 1957. . .Awesome runner, led NFL rushers eight years. . .All-NFL eight of nine years. . .NFL's Most Valuable Player, 1957, 1958, 1965. . . Rookie of the Year, 1957. . . Played in nine straight Pro Bowls. . .Career marks: 12,312 yards rushing, 262 receptions, 15,459 combined net yards, 756 points scored. . .Born February 17, 1936, in St. Simons, Georgia.

for me it would have to be John Riggins (Washington Redskins) Hershal walker and since were talking about all football from all Countries... Glen Hoddle ( Tottenham Hotspur ) I was born in the UK (Barnet) and moved to the States 12 years ago.
