GF Stormtrooper armor?

May not be the ideal place to ask this, but I know this community a little better and trust them implicitly. :)

I have an opportunity to buy a set of GF Type 2 armor (not the FX version) off of the FISD for what looks like a great price. Just wondering what, if any, opinions people here with experience with various TK armor would have with how it stacks up to AP, TE2 or TM armor. I've visited Starwarshelmet.com and the finished suits there look great.

Any thoughts?

chris - no doubt abt it mate - well worth it
looks wise - its the biz.

I would say on par with TE2. although kit alone, I do like TM's new sculpt.

if cash wasnt so tight I would get a set - even though I already have a TE2!

That's where I'm torn -- I was really planning on a set of TM after the holidays. Looks great, easier to assemble, acrylic capped ABS so it's bombproof.

Now I have to decide between saving a little money on a suit that may not be quite as nice with legacy versus the best fan made sculpt ever.

TM's is gorgeous - would have thouht it would be a bomb to ship to US; but checked out exchange rates; and theres no better time to do it.

GF has a lot of TK history, some one like T (on FISD) would be a great custodian for it mate. I think TM is also more durable and up to troopin. I do prefer the look of TE2 or GF buckets though.

if thats the dilema - save up for TM, great set of armour. Not to say anything abt u mate, I know u from here and know u got loads of cred on TDH, but by the sam token T has a lot of respect on the TK community; and would say quite a few peeps would like to see a GF set go to him. so every1';s a winner.

just my 2 cents though.

For that price I'd go with the GF. When I looked into TM armor, which is great by the way, it would've cost me almost double that to get it here.

And just to know, why TE2 and not AP, if the TE2 always goes with a "dent in the frontal part of the dome?

Just to know (y)

I'm an AP guy myself, if I were you, I'd just wait for the TM. As soon as something goes mildly south with the GF, you'll regret not getting a brand mew TM kit.

I had a FX...sold it to get a TE, I was this close then, BOOM! X-mas came outta nowhere. Waa waa.
9 yrs later I was then going to buy a AP or TE2. but decided on Boba!

Enough history about me...

GF is very hard to find, GF was given a C&D from Lucas... :facepalm
Also WAYY back in the day I called GF and he was asking $1200 for it. IIRC it was his one of his last 2 suits left.

TE2 are still in production. Accurate due to the irregularities of the mold, like the real deal.
If I had the $$ I go GF.(y)

then TE, TM, TE2, AP.

and if I had $$ to spare and FX just to set on fire..FUGLY.:D

Good Luck!

Art may be able to chime... I think he's more informed than me.

different stormtrooper armour makers
check out the 1st Imperial Stormtrooper Detachment (FISD) for some research.

like all costuming site - theres a convoluted history to the origins of some of the items available.

although TDH is not an official 501st site, lots of 501ers post here, and we tend to respect the 501 edict on not using full makers namers, hence all the hush hush abt actual makers

pm me if u want to know more mate :D

IIRC TE2 is basically for all intents and purposes TE as the moulds were bought from TE himself, the only differences I have heard about are people saying the TE2 isn't as sharp as the orignal TE however having owned both I can't say I have noticed, AP armour is basically GF (I think???) however where the original stormtrooper suits have separate details i.e left bicep and left forearm the AP uses the right arm pieces alone and simply duplicates them so therefore it appears more symetrical if that makes sense, I believe this is true for the lef pieces also, please correct me if I am wrong (probably)

I think that not all the right pieces of AP are the same than the left, because the right "shin" has one part of the left and one of the right.

Thank you very much for the reply, but my BIG :)D) question is why people says that the TE2 helmet is better than the AP one? :confused

First, "better" is subjective. :)

The case for the TE2 is usually that the HIPS plastic allows for a sharper pull with more detail. I have an AP and the vocoder detail is definitely softer than a TE2. Other details may be, as well, but without a TE2 to compare to, it's harder for me to tell.

AP is, however, made out of sturdier white ABS plastic and doesn't need to be painted.

So...both have advantages and disadantages. It's up to you to weigh how you want to use it, how much effort you want to put into assembly, relative costsm and go from there. The FISD and starwarshelmets.com are great places to research more....
