Funny Stories (if you have one post it here)

Welcome to polk county "get out while you can". Okay, so i moved over here to the states about four years ago from the Netherlands, I was born in Ireland but spent most of my child hood in the Chicago area. When i turned 18 i realized i had to get away for awhile find out who i am and where i belong. "I'm sure most of you know what i'm talking about". anyways so I moved back to europe. spent 14 years over there. 4 years ago my father had become seriously ill so I moved back to the states to help my mother out. since then my father has recovered.

When i moved back i moved near where my parents retired a small town by the name of auburndale in polk county fl. Now this is where it gets interesting this town is located half way between orlando and tampa 2 major modern city's but this town in fact the entire county is for lack of better words a normal persons hell but a rednecks heaven. okay put it this way every 3 out of 4 vehicles is a huge jacked up truck covered in mud. pretty much all the drivers are wearing cowboy hats or john deer caps. umm hello i don't see any cows that need wrangling or fields to plow and seed. but the funniest thing is they have these places called mud ranches okay sure lets all go to the mud ranch and drink bud light wth is that. I think the only beer that exists in that county is bud light. yuk I mean come on polk county get with the times open your eyes and stop marrying your 15 year old cousins already. If you end up ever ending up in that county make sure you get out while you can and run as far and as fast as you can away from there. now if your all redneck by all means move there you'll love it. Just make sure your name isn't Bubba cause everyone that lives there is named Bubba its so bad that they have to asign them numbers after the name for example "Bubba 12,825 your grits and collard greens are ready for pick up at register 2 and Bubba 763 your pigs feet and 6pack of bud light is ready at register 1". Funniest part about it is that you think i'm joking.

Sorry your not happy about where you live. Though, this sounds like a rant to me. And Bubba Fett is all ready taken.

not redneck by any stretch of the word, but dont you think there might be some of those individuals here that may take offense to this post? do you eat meat? do you eat cereal? vegetables? do you eat? then thank a redneck, brother...:cheers

Redneck: sunburned neck from working ALL day in the sun, providing for the rest of america...;)

Your missing the point this is in between two major city's it's not in the middle of Kansas or anything. This is one town with city on all sides. It's not a rant I don't even live there anymore, it's about the culture shock. you drive down the road in the middle of the city then you have about half a mile of lakes and trees then your in this town and everything is like your in the middle of the country then your right back in the city. you can't envision it because you haven't seen it. it's the weirdest thing. I don't have anything against anyone so don't think that. go to this town and experience it for yourself and you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. And just to make an added point there is not one field anywhere in the area for miles upon miles. The only John Deer equipment you may see is a riding lawn mower. I'm sure you all have seen or been too a town that you just don't get this is one of them.

I know where he's talking about. I'm from Texas and my father was always either pushin cattle or drivin a rig. I never thought of us as redneck (cause to me its the same as saying backwards or inbred), I always considered us as "country folk". These people he's talkin about are redneck in the worst since of the word. They'll drive around in their jacked up trucks blaring whatever rap song is popular at the moment, then drop the "N" word every few minutes and proclaim their hatred of black people. Not so much funny as just sad, really.

I really hate Florida BTW. Seems like on all sides this whole state is racist. Makes the most rural parts of Texas (Colleen for example) look like San Francisco. Just my .02

Not a problem. I'm actually in New Port Richey, so I know all too well. Your over where they botched the hell out of the search/investigation in the Jessica Lundsford case.

I think you two need take your conversation into PM mode. If you don't have anything good to say about anybody at all, then why even say it. I am requesting that this thread to be locked and pulled.

Replicant Shadow has a point. While I am sure it wasn't intended this way, you generalizations are bordering on inflammatory since there are a number of us who grew in areas similar to what you are describing. While I can understand your frustration, TDH really isn't the venue for this kind of rant.
