Wootness!!
I can finaly say that I have my own MR saber. it was made with the MR saber kit at radioshack: linky
Well, I picked one up today and settled on a design:

It has a luxeon setup: single LED in the blade.
It is amazing in low light conditions:

i can also make it green or red. Just a couple of twists, slide a section down, flip a switch, and put the parts back.
Pretty nice for $70 ;)
the emitters (3: Luke/Obi-Wan-style, Vader-style, and Anakin/Luke-style) are metal, as are the three pommels. the rest of the hilt parts are plastic.
If anyone wants, I'll snap pics of the multiple parts for everyone to check out.

Just thought I'd share my new weapon for my RL application in March

HUH???? MR Lightsaber kit you say???? Radio Shack you say???? HMMMM. Looks like I am off to radioshack this weekend!

I highly reccomend it :)
It's great for a starter jedi. Just don't think it's a toy and give it to a child. I compared this to a hasbro saber I had laying around and this beats the $10 toy by a mile and a half. The blade is much more durable, for one thing. The soudn is crisp, the color is sharp. The onyl bad part is that the blade is a permanents attachment.
You could always get another and glue the peices together for a belt hanger, but It's not really worth the extra $70 jsut to use a portion of the set.

I bought one of those last weekend at the Radio Shack a few blocks from my place. I was there to buy a few cans of comprressed air. It 's a fun little deal! You saber looks cool Zurath!

Thanks.
I wish there were more parts to work with, tho. I feel like I'm limited to the hybrids and can't go completely custom.

Voltaire, how'd you do yours?

I honestly never knew about this until Tuesday when I was snooping around radioshack.com

Also, I took the pic of it ignited in a pitch-black room.

Yes
It's shorter in overall length. A regular FX saber is about 47" overall, this is about 40". This set only has a single LED in the hilt to light the whole blade (Luxeon setup) while the standard sabers have a string of LEDs running the length of the blade.

With the Luxeon, they're more stable for mock dueling, while the regular versions tend to have LEDs go out.
A friend of mine and I were at an event and his saber was dying, causing some of the LEDs to go out while other stay lit*.......
This, on the other hand, will just go out without the streaking.

Other than those, I think they're the same.

Hope it helped you,
ZK

You better hurry, tho. The sale ends Saturday.

*very funny to see a sith lord holding a saber that looks like a glowing candy cane due to battery failure, BTW.

Alright, I snapped pics of the whole deal. The pommels, emitters, and the central hilt are all metal. The rest of the parts are plastic. The small buttons off to the side are some type of rubber. They’re used to keep the pieces from slipping off when you change the batteries and are attached near the pommel end of the hilt
In the image of the central hilt, you can see how the color-change is activated. It’s a fairly simple setup overall.
I hope this helps people reading this post.

Well, it appears that great minds do think alike, eh?
I've since changed this to use the Vader emitter instead. Kind of an "on the fence" jedi.

Well, if you clicke on the link in my first psot, you can put in your zicode (not sure what it is for UK) and they will show what stores in a X-mile radius hvae them in stock.

Of course, you could always order one off the website and have it shipped to you.
