    FETTDAD THANKS TDH!!

guys, i know that most of you have seen that i am parting out with my Fett...know that it is extremely difficult for me to do, after all the energy i have invested to complete this dream...but in this investment, i have taken energy away from those i love the most, my wife and my son...they are my world, and this project has placed them second in line for over a year now...i can never replace that time lost, so i came to the decision to let go of this dream i have had for being Fett...

i want to make sure you know that i am NOT leaving the family, despite my letting my costume go...just in the past few hours i have experienced something that many never do, from pretty much total strangers...the power that TDH holds in its community is something that people will never understand until they experience for themselves...you guys are so encouraging, supportive, understanding, and compasionate...wow, ya know? some families dont even have that close of a bond, and they are family!

i love this place, and will continue to be an active member, contributing my knowledge i have gained, helping those in need out, and just making sure vendors dont flake out on their customers... it has been an absolute joy being a part of this community, and will continue to be so...thanks so much TDH, love you guys!!!

Right back at you bro! So bummed but I fully support your decision. Family first for sure. Every now and again I have to pull back to get things back on the level with my wife. I just try to use any time she's busy to deal with my hobby so it usually is okay.

You're a great friend for never have meeting you in person! I can't say that about many people at all...

    Good luck!

Family always comes first man, and that's the most honorable reason for anyone to sell their kit. You've always been a stand-up member in the TDH community at least since I've been around here...and I'm glad that your choosing to continue to be such a great example of the kind of people TDH has as members.

Wow, like Firespray Pilot said, that must have been a pretty tough decision to make. But then again, I suppose when hobby is put up against family, it isn't that hard of a choice to make. Being new, I don't really know you all that well, but you seem like a dang decent guy, and hopefully I'll get to know you, along with everyone else in TDH family better.

    Cheers.

Most people that don't understand this hobby will never know how much of a selfless act this truly is. A lot of people will think "awww, it is just a stupid costume." Everyone hear knows that it is A LOT more than just a costume. I applaud you on your decision; It really shows how much you care about your family. I know you said that you would keep posting and visiting, but we all really hope that you do. This is more than a costuming site as you already know.

    Take Care,

You did get out of the costume for legit purposes, so we forgive you. Glad you're sticking around the board to talk shop with everyone though.

Luckily I never had to make that Fett decision personally. I built my Boba during the time of my life when I was single and dateless. Then once I had my Boba, I actually met my wife BECAUSE of my Boba!

    Re: FETTDAD THANKS TDH!!

I normally don't get involved with the mushy **** on the boards...its make me feel icky inside, but I had to say something. I've been doing this costuming thing for awhile and it sucks for me to watch you sell your stuff. You are already through the most difficult and time consuming part of your build and you did it really quick.

Thats the problem you need to pace yourself and do a little bit at a time. Work a little bit here and a little bit here. Maybe 1-2 weekend days a month and an hour or two before or after work. I started my Fett assuming that it would be a 2 year project at least. My wife doesn't care for my hobby much either, but she knows that she and my kids come 1st. I get to the soccer games and swimming lessons and all the ****...I mean most of the **** my wife plans for me.

I'm guessing that you are not 501st yet. When your costume is done and you visit the 1st childrens hospital or Make a Wish event and you are crying under your bucket. That is what it is all about. The kids are sreaming for Vader and Boba Fett, most of them don't give a **** about the rest of them. This is what your wife and family will see and understand.

Also get your kids involved. The kids love my son's mini TK. My wife even enjoys being a bouncer in the parade...AKA Spotter.

Don't sell you will regret it and you'll probably start it again anyway.

I agree with you too Slab but D seems to have made up his mind. Let's not make him feel more bummed than I'm sure he does already. I told my wife about this all last night and how I was bummed to see all his hard work go. At the same time though, I fully understand. I'm pretty passionate about this hobby and am on two different command staffs for costuming.

I actually resigned from one today and am not happy how things are going with my 501st CS position. My wife has begged me to not be on a CS next term because of all the crazies we have to deal with. She has though been pretty cool for the most part while I did my Fett...

It's all good in moderation and I know that I've come really close to getting her to that point where she's fed up. I've also taken a step outside and have noticed the my own obsession with me and how this hobby effects everything.

It's a bummer for sure but if this is what is right for D, then I support it...

I PM'd D today though to point out the obvious...Look at the impression he's made on us. He was doing something right for sure. A model addition to the TDH community for sure!

wow, guys, getting teary eyed just reading your posts...i means so much to me, beyond words...i will be back, in full force, with another Fett brother, my son, when he gets to the age to be able to focus on doing his own costume...who knows when that will be, and if any of these wonderful vendors will be around to take more of my hard earned money...*cough, cough* BM, MOW, FP, lsfu, etc...*cough* i will for sure be around the boards, lending a hand, keeping in touch with my bretheren, and tempting myself as usual...i believe the lid will remain in my posession, so that will a constant reminder of you guys, the incredible network of TDH... not only have i impacted you all, but you have certainly impacted me...i wish we all just lived in the same city, able to throw back some brews, talk SW and Fett, and just continue the kinship, in person...*sigh* this selling process has been difficult, i boxed up my armor today, and that was the first time it really hit me since yesterday the impact of what i have been doing for the last year...but yes, this is right, for me, for my personality, and the decision to take this step will strengthen my family, and open my eyes to what i need to do in future committments to costuming...thanks TDH, i cant say it enough...

Hey Man, it was the best of times, it was the worst of times eh?
Ive found that this hobby/addicton does take a lot of time and energy that could be spent elsewhere......BUT now that my eldest son is six and my twins (boy and girl) are 4.......I just take them along for the ride:

Remember brother....in time all things are possible. This thing will eventually turn into just one MORE thing you can do with the kids. Take care and good luck.

    Re: FETTDAD THANKS TDH!!

    Darrell,

I saw this the other day and have held off posting a response, because at first it always comes as a bit of a shock, especially from certain members that seemed so focused on building their Fett and when there is that much focus, there's also passion that goes along with it! I think that's always a hard thing to temper, it many times controls you and rules your decision making more than you thought it ever would! But, I'm glad that you've managed to work things out in your head and seem to have refocused your energies on the the things (people), that truly count in life!

Although, with that said, and this has been mentioned by a couple other members, is that if it is an interest and a hobby, you have to have something that's all for you and you enjoy and allows you escapism from work, stress, etc... This could also serve as a great vehicle to help build the relationship with your son in the future, should his interest in Star Wars grow over time, hopefully it will!

I can honestly say that model building, costumes, prop building and other things like this have kept my Dad and I close over the years, even though we've had our fair share of arguments and disagreements!

In the end man, you can always build another suit, I've sold off two complete ESB Fett suits, one better than the last and I'm now a Flightsuit, Vest, Boots and a Jet Pack away from building my 3rd and "FINAL ESB FETT"! I guess the third time will be the charm, perfect! So next time, take your time with it and enjoy the journey of building your Fett, it's not a race to see who can build their Fett the Fastest, it's the point of making it right!

So in the interum, keep in touch, focus on what you need to and when your ready to hit it again, I'm sure friends and vendors here on TDH will be here to help you recapture your dream of Fett for you and your son to admire for years to come! Because remember, a great man once wrote...

    ESB Boba Fett: 85% COMPLETE
"...alllmost therrre....alllmost theyrre..." "stay on target...STAAAY on target..."

ok, now i am really tearing up...after about $4000 of sold items, and a happy wife and esthatic son, i have been deeply touched by my experience on TDH...i have hung on to a couple of items, the holy grails of the costume, so to speak, and as mmgraphics has stated, and these will be my foundations for WHEN i come back to finish my Fett...it totally goes without saying, but this family is so intense, so tight knit, and so supportive, that i cant begin to express my gratitude, committment, and love for this community...any newbie that comes to TDH needs to see the support that you guys have given me in this tough time i have had in selling my gear...

it is ironic, that in the state i have been in in the last few days, i can truly see that TDH offers more than professional help with building a Fett costume, it offers friendship, true friendship, and a support group that has no compare...thanks guys, i truly consider you family!!

This hobby is going to be great 4 u in a couple a years cuz your kids will have the best costumes ever! and when neighbor's kids say where did you get your costume your kids will say

Noble gesture to put your family first. I hope to stay in contact both through TDH and personal communication with you. You have been the one who has stood up for the little guy on numerous occasions, that hopefully will not stop. Take care.

I'm happy I'll be able to read your things even though you had to sell. And family first is always the right decision.. so, I'm sorry, but not sorry

selling some of my gear to pay bills...maybe...all my fett stuff.

    i couldn't.

i think i'd ditch every other costume first, stormtrooper, all my stormy helmets, royal guard, master chief, harry potter, darth vader....all but the fett.

sucks that you gotta let it go.

glad that you have the mindset to jump back on some day. lots of people sell their gear, but not everyone comes back...curtis always does

i wish i had other stuff to have sold, but i didnt...i am totally in the same boat, brother...i would have for sure sold other stuff first...but this selling of my gear wasnt about money...it was about family, and time lost...i just had to refocus on priorities, learn from my tunnelvision and mistakes, and not let it happen the next time...
